  1. holy crap! WOW. that is some awesome reference material. there was a link to their homepage http://nanashi.macrossmecha.info/ but i also backtracked to this directory http://manuals.macrossmecha.org/vf1/fact/ there is some nice stuff in there, too bad it's not listed on their main page. do you guys have some more crazy links like that? some of the pictures i've never seen before. it all goes to good use, i'm a mecha artist (now published so all this reference material is awesome. please share some more links? You might PM nanashi (aka Windjammer...but I think he goes by nanashi on the boards now) or just search for his name(s), since he's provided links via the forum that aren't easily located via the front page. This may be because he's doing some remodeling and/or editing--it was recently established that some of the materials on which he's relied are not official, so he may want to add some clarifications about that. Another way to go: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-...G=Google+Search
  2. Anway, there are advantages in being an independent forum that I wouldn't like to see go away. If Shawn is willing to let us help, I'd support JsArclight's approach. Or we could sell T-Shirts, wash cars, etc. Edit: or do it like the politicians and have "dinners" where the guests pay big bucks to eat off of paper plates!
  3. I think it's because "o" means "big" and "nishi" means "west". Kaya O(h)nishi is apparently the main dude at Big West. He was the one who helped connect Studio Nue with the advertisers (toymakers, etc.) and made the deal with MBS to turn Macross from a good idea into an actual television project.
  4. Why would the color look different between scenes on the same DVD on the same TV? I haven't checked it out myself but it wouldn't be the first color inconsistency in DYRL.
  5. "Giant Moth" because "Gerwalk" in Japanese is ガウオーク "GAUOKU". "Ga" is the pronunciation of the word for "moth". (Look here.) I don't know if the rest of the word contains a pun on a word for "giant" or "enormous", etc. Anyway, the Gerwalk mode does look kind of like a Sphinx moth (hummingbird moth, hawk moth) at rest, and those moths are known for their ability to hover. Here's an especially big one from http://pacificislands.fws.gov/wesa/sphinxmoth.html
  6. There's definitely a market for the green Q-Rau. I've even seen comments on a Japanese BBS from people who say they prefer the green. I'm willing to wait a bit to see how things develop, but even if Yamato does a green Q-Rau along the lines of this custom, using just a repaint without major modifications (maybe fix the antenna and remold the eye), I'll buy it.
  7. Hey, no worries, it's the best scan of it I've seen But ditto on that modified version--looks great!
  8. Sorry about that. What can ya do? Nothing. I think it's a valuable resource! I just meant that anyone who uses an imacross server needs to be aware of the limitations and not (for example) give up on a transfer just because it's going slowly.
  9. Then bring your ass home dude! I'm sure you'd love the shitty "spring" weather we've been having. Pouring rain, and temps in the 30's and 40's, it's great! All that leading up to another summer in the high 90's with humidity topping out right about 95%, Mmmm, can't wait for another Maryland summer in the steambox. I think I need to start job hunting nationwide.... Actually I'll be visiting pretty soon. Here's hoping the weather clears up--but I don't mind the summer in MD at all. Love the heat. Love the humidity. (As long as I don't have to wear a tie!) That's probably why I manage so well on my visits to Vietnam even when the locals are complaining about the weather Now, over here, we freeze our asses off in July...especially at night.
  10. Looks nice. I'm glad you fixed the eye.
  11. Couldn't the song have been written and sung after the TV series but before the launch of the Megaroad? Not that I think the TV series necessarily has to be the absolute, literal version of the events of SW1. There are any number of details that could be changed without affecting the overall continuity. I do think the movie must be more "fictionalized", though. For example, it's hard to believe that Kamujin was "really" more like the DYRL version.
  12. Last I checked, there was an image of the poster at one of the imacross servers (imacross4?). Resolution is 2814x1892. Some visible alignment problems since it wasn't scanned in one pass, but overall it's good enough to see all the details. Note: the imacross servers can be slow. Patience.
  13. Chronocidal, I think you may be referring to an ugly F-5E http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/Gallery/Photo/F-1...C03-0229-6.html It's the F-5 Shaped Sonic Boom Demonstration (SSBD) aircraft.
  14. IANAL but to my eyes, recasts pretty clearly infringe on the copyright of the owner of the original design (Big West) as well as the licensed creator of the sculpt. Nevertheless, the cops don't knock on people's doors because de minimis non curat lex. It's too small an issue for the authorities to care about, plus if the actual copyright owners don't bring suit, there's no case. Particularly with scifi, especially with comics and animation, and most especially with Japanese anime and manga, small-scale use of copyrighted materials without permission in adapations or doujinshi is tolerated and probably regarded as good publicity. So Big West probably wouldn't care that much anyway. The creators of the sculpts may or may not care--but they probably lack the legal resources to pursue recasters. Edit: just wanted to provide an opinion on the legality issue. However, I think this is far more of an ethical issue, which others are speaking to.
  15. Born in Maryland, spent college years in Connecticut, moved to Berzerkeley, CA after that. I tell myself I'm still a Marylander at heart...
  16. I haven't looked at the line art from all the angles but the differences I've seen are: antenna straight vs. curved "bell bottoms" on the legs low-cut vs. high-cut eye thingy is different Graham mentions something about the skirt armor being different in his review, when he's talking about what would have to be done to make a TV version.
  17. Might want to check these out: http://www.merzo.net/ http://www.robotech.com/infopedia/sizecomp...6c5fd835a5b9f61 (The second requires registration--free but annoying--but it also gathers all the Macross/SC/Mospeada starships into one place without other fictional ships. Edit: er, yeah. See above.
  18. Actually, Max can wear a tutu and still run circles around anything that flies. Shh...don't give Red Comet any ideas!
  19. What's the little twin-engined jet flying with it? I thought it might be an F-108 but it's nothing like one.
  20. For calculations based on the official dimensions (from the Compendium) of the VF-0, look at this post. Heck, I'll quote it:
  21. Hey, thanks for finding that! It looks like the project got further along than I remember.
  22. Note that this is the Harmony Gold labelled version, not the Matchbox one. That probably is the reason for the small differences noted. Also why would anyone bootleg this particular toy--if you're going to go to the trouble, why not bootleg the 1/3000? Finally, if you're remembering a transforming SDF-1, then you're either thinking of the 1/3000 one, or one of the really crappy small ones.
  23. Haven't gotten any of these yet but I remember finding them on the web and they looked pretty good. Anyway, just wondering what you recommend for heating them? I imagine boiling water would be safest if it works.
  24. I'm thinking Gelgoog or Zaku...which is scary because I really don't know anything about Gundam. It must be seeping into my mind via osmosis.
