  1. I have to echo a lot of the sentiment. New OP is bland Roid's reason for continuing the war doesn't make sense mostly because we left in the dark of the WHY's The footage of the VF-22 seems sketchy as hell. BTW I don't think Hayate's father was the pilot, but rather he was the pilot of the craft recording the footage. I'm thinking he probably leak the footage to Windemere. Roid's reason for galactic domination still seems really weak. He's been portrayed as a more kind and thoughtful character than Keith so making him so war mongering seems very awkward. It honestly sounds like Windemere tried to use the ruins for something 7 years ago and NUNs knowing the galactic danger potential use one of their most powerful weapons to stop the threat. I honestly thought Keith would be wearing some sort of Char mask during his injury reveal I'm on the boat of it's fine Windemere is winning one sidedly but COME ON at least show several squadrons deployed not the same SIX guys that are doing 99% of the fighting.
  2. You're looking at it from a story perspective, I'm talking about an abstract example of potential force they could muster against what we consider the biggest known military power we've seen. On the aspect of SMS we did see the Macross Quarter crew abandon their contract when Leon took over in the TV series. It's one thing if SMS decided to officially terminate the contract, instead we saw them sneak away. From the public's view, SMS left them high and dry after the president died in a Vajara attack. Once aspect of this story that was never touched on was what Richard Bilrer did during this abadonment. Did he leave on the Quarter or on some other craft, did he hole up in his mansion. You know for sure he would have been brought in for questioning otherwise. This sequence is why the movie version full of SMS reinforcements doesn't make sense. The point the on the mining corps is that sets up a dangerous precedence for PMCs. We have no idea if there's an rating/bonding commission for them or any recourse for employers to file grievances against PMC abuses or even vise versa. Today's PMC might be tomorrows pirate fleet or personal space fiefdom. But yeah true enough lives are cheap and if PMC are cheaper due to competition there's bound to be an increase in conflicts.
  3. That's a good point with Sheryl but the scale is different. We're talking a multiple front war and I'll be honest, I follow the TV version as the closer truth than the movies. If SMS had THAT many macross quarters they could easily take out defenders on earth that were station there during M+ UNLESS earth/NUNS is packing even MORE power than that.
  4. Decent low action ep. I feel this ep had good moments to help fill out Chuck's character slightly. He's hasn't got much development other than we know he's been to war and doesn't like killing people. So the rear docking was due to the normal method being damaged. Still makes me wonder if the Elysion was the Island's original macross ship just because the scale and possible front docking orientation looks to be off in a traditional sense. We don't get any clarity on what damaged the Island's fold drives... I guess we'll chock it up to battle damage but it really seems like those should have been much better maintained. NUNS... doesn't seem as sinister to me. Just more of they recognized that the Windemere song might have been a huge threat, tried to take steps to deal with it 7 years ago and failed. Their calmness comes from having a fold jamming technology that would help them in the future. Fixing plug scenes were fine I actually like how Hayate was extremely job focused. The performance... the song was VERY lacking to me. Maybe it was the overuse of English, but it felt hollow mostly. That being said, I think Kaname had the best part in the performance. But the big goose in the room, and I'm super surprised no one has pointed this out, is that Lady M got a contract FROM A MINING COMPANY to free the whole cluster. W.T.F. Unless they're mining fold quartz there no way a mining company could affordably commission a mercenary group to free dozens of planets, which the mining company might not have any presence on I might add. Hell I know this is just for story fluff but it sets it's a very dangerous precedence of a private corp "freeing" planets from local authorities. The commission would have made a HELL of a lot more sense coming from NUNS. We joke the NUNS officers are in conspiracy but a CEO of a PMC conveniently finding a sponsor to take over planets is HELLA fishy. Hell this could set up a conflict between NUNS operations and the interests of the mining company!
  5. I figure since she's going to get into a form fitting flight suit she rather not have to deal with too many layers.
  6. I'd point out that if Ernest was known to be a guy that always sides with the losing side, how would a guy like that be put in charge of one of the most strategically important assets in the sector? If he was known to be a better coordinator and trainer that's fine, it's still not a qualification to be a fleet commander (would having the 3 ships in a macross be a fleet by itself?) On top of that, being a captain of a macross class ship should be a choice position. Could Ernest have been appointed by Lady M because he aligns with her view points the most? Other weirdness would be why would NUNS let a military contractor control the sole Macross class ship in the sector unless Kaos already owned it.
  7. That is a VERY good point. We've seen them use gerwalk mostly for mid air breaking and occasional hovering. Both of which fall in line with their flight superiority doctrine. If we examine why other pilots have used battroid mode, it's been mostly to kill off their momentum letting other pass them (mid air breaking) or to be used as a "stable" position to shoot down (bringing in head cannons in combination with the gunpod) or launch missiles (armored pack full missile launch). From a maneuverability stand point the only benefit battroid mode has is that it probably falls faster than gerwalk due to the lack of surface area for gliding/air resistance. I honestly don't think the Windemere's would use this as it puts them in a free fall without a lot of maneuverability. Also, if they were to go into a deep dive it's more likely they would use their lil' drakens in rear facing mode to cover their rear like Keith has shown. All that being said, I'm sure we'll seen the same move Hayate used on Mirage in their training battle used again. ie steep angle shots from a falling position.
  8. Uh, I dunno. Using the VARS to not only create domestic outbreaks of violence, but to rob people of their independent will seems pretty damning. Throw on top they're doing this to several worlds across a whole sector we're talking about millions if not billions of lives. Based on what we know of VARS it's effect can become permanent, so we're talking forced enslavement on a massive scale.
  9. This has been bothering me since seeing Keith active a fold factor on his Draken. Do the Draken III's actually have a fold crystal system integrated? The glow effect we've seen during Keith and Messer's last duel is the save we've seen on the YF-29 and Hayate's VF-31 when he's syncing with Freya's song.
  10. Positive vote for me, but I do agree Frontier was a much better experience at this point in it's airings
  11. I wonder what the universe explanation is for having so many new VFs coming out in such a short period of time. YF's sure, they're prototypes and a lot of new tech has been introduced so it makes sense. But considering the VF25 was built to be a cost conscious, configurable module based multi role fighter, what role is the VF31 supposed to fill?
  12. Just thinking about Gramia's tactics it a bit more. If he's confident that Ernest will come for him with Walkure then the baiting makes even more sense. Those few precious minutes in a head start are more minutes for Hienz to sing uncontested. By the time Ernest's fleet get back to Ragna I suspect many of the defenders would have been turned.
  13. Hmm... I would say the missiles are more useful against slower, less maneuverable and/or larger targets in modern macross. I'm remembering the Vajara "micro missiles" being effective on the NUNs red shirts while someone like Alto or the Diamond force was able to shoot them down. From a Delta stand point, the majority of missiles are shot down by pilots with only Keith launch bay attack in ep 1 as the only stand out use of them.
  14. I wonder if the 37% drop in Delta's combat effectiveness from Messer's death is really due to his skill or the fact he shot to kill and didn't drag out firefights trying to disable the enemy. Which is leads in to the interesting question if Hayate will start shooting to kill if he really wants to take up the combat weight Messer left behind.
  15. HAHA, Gamlin doesn't get a enough love! Not only will he 1 v 5 them, he'll shoot them all down without killing them AND blow up all their drones. His pilot skill is so underplayed due to the crazy rock power vs space demon/vampires weirdness that's happening at the same time.
  16. Wow great stuff guys!. I'd also throw out there that, depending on how premeditate Keith's strategy was, he might have had the laser tuned to have a higher output for this one shot. At the same time, is the "durability" of energy conversion armor regenerative? ie if given time does it re strengthen after being hit? I suppose that would make it more barrier shield like than true armor.
  17. I'm wondering what the design decision was to have the Lil' Drakkens act like boosters on a super pack? Now I don't have as much detail research lore in the macross universe but wasn't the super pack concept designed around increased firepower and boosters for space maneuverability? If I'm recalling correctly don't VF's normally purge their armor in atmosphere to maintain flight capability? I can only remember Ozuma using his full armored pack in MF in gerwalk and battleroid mode while actually in Island 1.
  18. On a side note, I wonder if offing Messer will make Arad take the gloves off. It's heavily implied his skills were on par with Messer but he focused on not killing people.
  19. Yeah, it's more likely that Voldor is still under Windemere occupation. Though it does make me wonder how long the VARS brain washing control lasts when Heinz isn't singing.
