  1. Sounds like you have it all figured out. So I`m guessing the Daedalus is an amphibious assault carrier? I know you mentioned helicopters before but any info on Valkyries on board? ie Did we see them fly off the Daedalus? I guess you can always include them in the spare 2/3 of the ship and like the US carriers, squadrons can be added or subtracted depending on the mission. For example for the Haiti invasion I remember the US Marines literally took some carriers, took every jet off and covered the upper and lower decks in helicopters exclusively. A Daedalus configured for combined ops could easily have complements of any UN Spacy mecha available.
  2. On the "50 years" thing its a mistranslation by google. The kanji used in the original Japanese on the SDFM official page are: å››åŠä¸–ç´€ first character is "4", second is "half" and the last two characters mean century. When used together they mean "quarter century" in Japanese, so 25 years. Google translated them separately as in "4 half century".
  3. OP do you have a CM or other Minmay for it to guard? imo this would look best posed with a minmay figure.
  4. Wow, thats so cool. Where is that line art from?
  5. Technology is never equal to good animation. Love = good animation. Look at those non-anime-friend episodes of SDF Macross, lovingly rendered. Extremely hi frame rates for certain scenes, unheard of for TV anime at the time (For example: Max and Millia fighting it out inside the Macross while Hikaru is in hospital, the dogfight where Roy is mortally wounded). A lot of animation in the `80s was amazingly produced because the staff had passion. Animators would put extreme detail into their work. I think some of that same passion isnt around today and people rely too much on technology. Thats just my opinion though. Unfortunately you may be right. But they could be training to be sent to a distant war? The last episodes could still feature a battle? Think Gunbuster with Valkyries!!!
  6. Its a CD single boxset btw, not full length CDs. I dont think I`ve ever heard of ANY Japanese market anime release DVD with English subs or dubs on it. Correct me if I`m wrong but I dont think there is any significant demand in Japan or in specialist export market (hardcore fans like yourself who go for the Japanese releases) to warrant the time and money needed to include them. My solution: Learn Japanese.
  7. Yessssssss. That is such a cool image. Stop getting my hopes up! In all probability the new series probably wont have any cool epic battles like this (like Macross 7`s pathetic excuses for well animated battles), will probably just be small skirmishes (like Macross 0) and I`ll be devastated.
  8. okay, thanks for clarrifying. Still, to be a 25th anniversary series it has to air in 2007, so I would still assume an August or soon after air date.
  9. Absolutely. The series starts airing in August doesnt it? I`d assume all the designs are completed but the public is only seeing early sketches in the Japanese press so far. Japanese hardcore fans are known for stealing material from animation studios (at least they did in Otaku no Video haha) so hopefull we`ll see some harder stuff leaked on the Japanese fan pages? I`m wary of getting my hopes up for the show. I started on Macross 7 with the lowest expectations possible and actually ended up enjoying it somewhat and getting a little of that old Macross feeling back towards the end of the series. I think I`ll keep the same attitude for this show. I`ll expect the worst, so then if its mediocre I`ll be pleasantly suprised. Does that make sense?
  10. Are you ethnic Japanese? I`m coming from the perspective that I`m white and obviously foreign and therefore am the ultimate outsider in Japan.
  11. What is the actual complement of destroids and valkyries aboard the Daedalus? The Macross Compendium is ambigous listing the complement for the entire SDF 1 as far as I can tell. Are there any hard numbers? Sorry if this has already been covered in the thread.
  12. Haha, but it doesnt really compare to a Western city or even many Asian ones in multiculturalism does it?
  13. haha, thats hilarious because I`ve never seen a Japanese young person give up their seat on a bus or train for an elderly person let alone give them their place in line. Like I said> Japanese only care about themselves and those within their group. Anyone outside of their clique they barely consider human.
  14. But dont forget Japan is one of the most homogenous societies on earth. Tokyo is not like LA or New York or London or Sydney. Theres really only one culture here. Sometimes it seems like Japanese are part of a hive mind and they know what each other is thinking. Also a lot of foreigners note how Japanese are like robots and will act the same in every situation. For example. EVERY Japanese person I`ve EVER met over a meal has told me "ohashi jyouzu" or "wow, you`re good at using chopsticks". This is not only an ignorant thing to say (Dont they know the whole world has Chinese restaurants) but its robotic the way they ALL automatically say it when they see a foreigner use chopsticks. And you`ll get over the "all Japanese are polite" myth pretty quick the 5th time an old man cuts in front of you at the convenience store or ATM.
  15. I`ve lived in Japan for 3 years total. How about you? I just get upset when western anime fans see Japan through rose colored glasses as some utopia but once you have lived here for a while and learned the language you realise that Japan has just as many problems as any society. Although different. One of the main ones is "tatemae" which is basically face. Acting a certain way because you`re expected to so other people like you, not because you want to. Another one is almost complete ignorance of the rest of the world and a crippliningly homogenous society. And by the way. Almost all Japanese girls have very short legs. They just know how to dress and exentuate their legs.
  16. You only think this because your just beginning at the language. Once you get better you`ll realise that Japanese people treat each other like poo. Japanese people are only on the surface polite because they try hard to maintain an image of themselves and their country but in reality they are very cold and distant people. Japanese people think about themselves pretty much exclusively- it's just that what they worry about is what other people think of them, hence you think they are polite. Shop assistants are paid to be polite but its all an act too. Come back when you`ve made any real Japanese friends.
  17. Are you listing myths about Japan?
  18. No T3 was awesome! Classic terminator
  19. Good to hear you you didnt have to redo all that framework. Dont let anyone tell you you`re crazy, if you`re going to build a Daedalus you should do it like this! No holds barred
  20. ah! Of course. For some reason I was thinking of L-Gaim.
  21. That would be the coolest but with Kawamori`s track record of pacifist storylines I cant see it happening. Then again most of the best and most accurate war movies are anti-war movies.
  22. Thanks for this, this has designs by Mamoru Nagano correct? His ultra elegant Five Star Stories mecha have always fascinated me.
  23. Word! Of course the love triangle and cute girls was also key (One of the reasons I liked Macross 7 in the end - cool love triangle and Mylene) , as was music, but I`m still not seeing why fans of SDF Macross should like a Kawamori series about "deep" topics like the environment when SDF Macross was primarily about War (and love triangles and music).
  24. SDF Macross (1982) was about war so it makes sense that most Macross fans like stories about war. If we wanted to watch stories about the environment and so called overpopulation and other left wing doomsday bullshit then we`d watch an old American cartoon called Captain Planet.
  25. My ideal Macross TV series would cover the fate of Hikaru, Misa and Minmei in deep space. From what I`ve read in this thread there is about 0 chance of that happening but theres always hope.
