  1. Along with some of the worst animation to come out of the mid 90's. No excuse for the low production value of the series. Eh... if that were such a big problem then we'd all hate the much crappier animation mistakes and quality in the original SDF Macross TV enough to never watch it, much less restore it. The animation in M7 never bothered me a bit. I can understand alot of the "I just don't get it/it's not my cup of tea", though. To each their own. I'm just glad I wasn't too put off by some comments enough to give it a shot. It ended up being a great show that I've watched 3 times now. errr, most of us actually do DISLIKE/HATE/MAKE-FUN-OF the animation-mistakes in SDF-M. Crucifying Animefiend for animation-mistakes and blasting HG/Macek for the RT-dubs/splicing are a good sport. And yet, even with AnimeFiend and HG/Macek screwing up SDF-M, we STILL love SDF-Macross. And for the RT-fans, they still like the Macross-saga, despite the re-writes and the dubs. Most of us can withstand and tolerate the bad stuff in SDF-TV. It's just that prolly more than half of us cannot stand nor tolerate the same things in M7. Especially considering M7 was a mid-90's release, so the sophistication and technology were available for M7 that SDF-TV was just lacking as an early 80's release.
  2. I think Gundam is just more popular than Macross in Japan only. Macross/Robotech has alot more popularity and recognition here in the States, Canada, Mexico, Southeast Asia countries, and possibly Europe. I mean, c'mon. Who would not recognize an F-14 jet with a skull-emblem? Of course nowadays, you got Gundam-Seed and the stateside Gundam-toys/models to keep the US-fans' memories fresh. If only DYRL and Macross Zero (along with the toys) were easily officially available outside of Japan (i.e. retail here in US) without the HG-monkey... I still remember the days when the first Yammie Macross-Plus and VF-1 toys were on retail. It sold out completely in the local anime-store I used to go way before HG visited them with their C&D poo. I can't forget since I'm one of the ones that got SOL on the toys coz of that visit. Bastards.
  3. errr, uhh, you know, license-debates and stuff goes to http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=153
  4. They should replace the Choke Hazard warning-tag to Nauseousness Hazard.
  5. rol! thanks for the laff!
  6. heh! damn winger. get this instead. http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljpage.cgi?BAN916409
  7. To put it mildly. I can't stand DYRL's spin on things. I have to fight to stop from rolling my eyes at how trite and hokey the whole "men vs women war" thing was. I'd honestly rather watch Macross 2 for it's story than DYRL. err, you don't roll your eyes on the whole hokey, trite, and rather racist "Giants-vs-puny-'earthlings'" thingy from SDF-TV? how quaint.
  8. wow, now I don't know if that's a cosplayer or a porn star! yeah. seriously!

arrrggghhhh!!! why did you stick it with your Max-1S ?! You should have used some Yellow-1A fodder for the GBP to cover up.
  10. Ime, when I shared my DYRL-copy to some anime-newbie friends, the only thing they did not understand at first was how the SDF-1 got into space. So after they watched it, I just made them a copy of the DYRL-game footage to answer the question. These people don't know nor have any experiences watching Robotech or Macross, so they were pretty much fresh recruits.
  11. We must not forget that SDF-TV was a local and international hit, and it was still very fresh on the japanese-viewers minds when DYRL-movie was released 20 years ago. And DYRL is/was a movie, not a tv-series. That should pretty much explain the lack of the nitty background tv-details in the movie because everyone knew of the TV-series to accomodate and understand the stuff in DYRL. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean it translated well nor was understandable to Western audiences that have only seen the Robotech-version.
  12. yup. the hole was secured/closed quickly. iirc, the scene was in slow-motion, even.
  13. DYRL was utterly confusing the first time I'd watched it, the only previous experience I had with Macross being Robotech. Then again, could be because the audio was garbled and it was subtitled... in Chinese. Which I can't read worth a lick. But I imagine that watching SDF wouldn't have produced the same sort of utter and total confusion. -Al hahaha! in chinese subtitles. that's way too funny, man. prolly as funny as watching/listening to COTB for the first time.
  14. Gotta disagree there. DYRL can be an utterly confusing movie to someone who isn't already familiar with the overall story. At least, it has been to many. Obviously, for me this is at the point of "agree to disagree". . . but I would humbly suggest that those who prefer DYRL aren't giving the TV series enough credit for "priming" them for DYRL, thereby making DYRL as effective and enjoyable as it is for them. Again, however, I know there are some who saw DYRL first and just plain loved it from the start. And, I'm sure there are just people who enjoy brevity, beautiful visuals, whiz-bang action, and a more direct story. To each their own. Both are wonderful in their own way. I just think one wouldn't be so good without the other. well fwiw, both DYRL and SDF-TV can also be utterly confusing to those who have only watched or only got exposed to the Robotech version of it. More so with SDF-TV since it's more easily available than DYRL.
  15. currently, nobody has the R1-rights for DYRL, Flashback-2012 and Zero. oh, yeah. go to this pinned-thread for more info: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=153
  16. hahahaha! so apt!
  17. That's because Omega Supreme was the last surviving Guardian robot in the TF-G1.
  18. man, the GBP-1J just rox0r!!! that Isamu is really kewl.
  19. Not bad enough to go to a "love hotel" with him on the first date. People are welcome to their interpretations but in my opinion, even though DYRL-Minmay is more grown up, she's not quite a 90's "Sex in the City" woman. *ahem* Look at our mod Roy Focker's avatar. Remember that scene? Yes, you do. I'm not saying she's a tart and she proved it by refusing the love-hotel on the first date.
  20. Minmay-DYRL was a bit older and she was hot. And I mean hot. All those raging pheromones/hormones, man. She doesn't want to just date Hikaru. Minmay wants to do Hikaru really bad. Really bad. And she wasn't holding back nor was she as ditzy or airheaded like the tv-version. She's quite possessive and assertive, too.
  21. hmm. that art looks like it has DYRL-controls.

finally received my armor-only set yesterday and overall, they're cool. no pics since the cam is not available. few thoughts: [*] as everyone else had reported, the nosecone armor is kinda loose. you might want to use some tissue-scrap to secure them better than the default. or Glue them together permanently. [*] The right-fist peg was too big for my super-1J. So, instead of dyrl-pose, i have the tv-pose where it's holding the gunpod. [*] The whole thing can still do a wide-stance, but kinda barely. Be aware that the vf-1j leg-pegs are shorter because the hip-armor takes alot of space. I don't know if the VF-1J that came with the GBP-set have longer leg-pegs. [*] the toy just looks damn good as a posed-toy. can't play with it that much because of the looseness of the nosecone-armor and the legs/hip-armor. it's still all good.
  25. I'm exaggerating a bit, yeah. But he's definitely quite a bit more understated, dark, and mopey than he gets in Ep. 4. I think the trouble I have with him is that he is a little bit manic-depressive, and especially manic in Ep. 4, which is somewhat jarring in the narrative. But then again, he just saw boobies. -Al Well, Shin did reached first-base with Sara in ep-4. I mean, he one-ups Hikaru already in the studly-dept. Might have had a homerun had it not for the bomb.
