  1. is that true? last time i ordered from hlj, they were still using ups and it always took a week or so. i'm a little discouraged with this SAL-stories.
  2. Dunno if some fansub-circuits still have 'em. On the region-0/bootleg front, the best one (FX-perfect) is totally gone off the market and the remaining MI/MAC boots have totally crap engrish from what I've read. You're better off getting it online in official Region-1 at DigitalEyes (they have the best prices). Here's the price and ordering page for volume-1: http://www.digitaleyes.net/Details.cfm?info=DVDEV001 They're also selling the Eva-boxset for like a hair under +ACQ-100, too. It'll be expensive (avg +ACQ-30/per volume) if you buy it locally on retail like in Suncrap. --treatment--
  3. Well, no. Not animefiend-bad. It's just the same art and animation that you will find in another anime titled Colorful. edit: fwiw, it's just one episode and I'm leaning on that they did that episode that way intentionally.
  4. Actually, it was Musashi that got killed. Again.* (*Musashi was killed at least once in the original series and on nearly every Getter Robo theatrical feature.) I confused those guys' names again.
  5. Definitely agreed! The plot went out the window somewhere in ep-1 or something and it was all bad-ass old-fashioned ass-kicking action from the Getters. The death of Benkei still kinda makes me wonder why it was necessary to do so, tho. The ending was a little too corny, tho, imho. Overall, Shin Getter Robo is total fun old-school robot-action with enough angst and more than enough action to make it worth the purchase. --treatment--
  6. Yes, there's one episode late in the series where the animation and art went primitively bizarre. I'm not quite sure if it was intentional since the whole episode was dealing with the grey-area emotional issues of one of the lead characters (won't tell u who. ) or if the animation-house just went on strike or something.
  7. Bummer, dude. I'm in Southern Cali. SD. The marketplace is called Mitsuwa Market. I dunno the name of the store that has the EVA-Renewal box, but is inside of Mitsuwa Market. Is the mitsuwa market place your talking about in LA, or is it in SD? I'ma have to check the LA mitsuwa anyway. I just wanna look at it in person. No way am I shelling out 425 for dvd's like that. It's gotta be made of platinum for me to even think about buying it. The one I saw was in SD and only had one copy. Maybe the LA store has more copies or something.

  9. So yesterday (9/10/03), I was checking out the local japanese market to buy pocky almonds and, as always, wandered into manga/dvd/audio store inside. There I saw, still in it's still-sealed brown packaging-box, with pretty much an un-noticeable profile until you stop and try to read and then realized what the label on the box was stating: Neon Genesis Evangelion Renewal boxset. The swanky uber-kewl red-foldout Region-2-only release that I've only seen pics. I can't believe it. It's supposed to be sold-out in Japan and not available here in the States. Yet, there it is. Still sealed. Since there was only two customers there at that time (including me) and the other dude was busy pre-ordering some Japanese music or something, I asked the other clerk, non-chalantly, how much the brown box-package (the EVA renewal box) was. The clerk looked it up, checked his price-table on it, and shake his head to me with some hesitation. I was expecting an answer that it's already sold or is not available for sale, but the answer was neither: I'm not sure if the Renewal-box package is still there today. But I passed on it. I feel kinda weirded out about it, but I just can't afford that much on it. I'm still saving up for the 1/48 FAST-packs and other stuff. Would any of you other EVA-fans pass on it, too, given the $425+tax price?
  10. and Ishtar!Don't forget Ishtar! And Isamu Dyson. The most bad-ass pilot since Max Jenius and Roy Focker, not to mention the best bad-ass enigmatic devil-may-care-attitude character before Spike Spiegel. btw, Plus also introduced and gave to most of us Yoko Kanno's excellent music-compositions. All the Plus music are still golden to this day! hahaha! true, true.
  11. I'm still heavily bothered by the new Galactica having Starbuck as a woman. Lt. Starbuck was one of my (and alot of others' I know of) early heroes when I was growing up. The way he hits on and conducts himself among the women was just _the_ irreplaceable mark of Galactica to me and to alot of other boys who grew up with it. It was total sacriledge to have Starbuck dishonored by turning this classic sci-fi character into a woman. Why can't the writers of this new Galactica on Sci-Fi just friggin add an additional strong female-character into the story instead of desecrating the memory of Starbuck? Just way beyond comprehension, i tell yah.
  12. For shame! Starbuck was played by none other than the Faceman himself, Dirk Benedict. Now for your pennence, I condemn you to watch the second season of Buck Rogers, Hawkman and all. Edit: You edit quickly, my son. But not quickly enough. yeah. rol! for some odd reason, i was thinkin Starbuck's/Face's name was Baxter instead of Dirk B. hahaha! I feel so old now. hahaha! --treatment--
  13. Not old enough to remember the show correctly. You may be confusing some scenes from Galactica 1980 in with the original show. never saw Galactica 1980. edit: ahhh, now i see. The boy-genius stuff was the Galactica-1980. Yup. I stopped watching Galactica then and there. Galactica without Starbuck (Dirk Benedict, i think) was just not the Galactica I used to watch. edit2: dirk benedict! geezus. I can barely remember the real name of Face! hahaha! --treatment--
  14. iirc, i stopped watching Galactica the moment the kid became the supreme commander or something. that was the lamest move back then. at least, Starbuck was extremely funny and the sexual innuendo was so rampant in the early episodes or something. damn i feel old. rol!
  15. FYI. As reported in http://animenewsnetwork.com/columns/tankobon.php?id=3 , the manga for the fan-favorite Azumanga Daioh is scheduled to be out this month. ADVFilms is releasing it and some folks from AnimeonDVD-forum already had their copies. Bastards. The stores I called in over here at SD doesn't have inventory-stock on it, yet. I'm not a manga-fan, but this is one particular manga that I will so definitely get. The Azu anime R1-dvd is scheduled for next year release, btw.
  16. saw this from another forum i hang out in. http://www.dvdplanet.com/product_listing.a...SMailer20030908 looks very gnarly. gonna be released around 10/21/03. and it's the classic Battlestar Galactica. Not the upcoming new mangled one from Sci-Fi channel where Starbuck is a friggin girl. add: they say the red-light works, too!
  17. official announcement at http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=4144 Region-1 Nadesico Movie!!!! woo hoooo!!!! ANN's encyclopedia-entry with the region-1 cover: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...ses.php?id=2177
  18. There's only two there in your list that's really worth getting in region-1 dvd: [*] EVA [*] Nadesico I'll add in a couple more: [*] Dai-Guard [*] FLCL [*] Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV I suggest the way/sequence to watch 'em is: Tylor -> Nadesico EVA -> Dai-Guard FLCL Nadesico is a parody of Gundam-0079, SDF-Macross, and Star Blazers/Yamato. Dai-Guard is a parody of EVA and most other 70's robot-anime. Tylor is more or less a parody of Star Blazers. Even tho the above titles are parodies in their most basic premises, they do stand on their own and are quite excellent separate anime by themselves. EVA is EVA. FLCL is FLCL. Both are Gainax at it's finest. Nuff said. --treatment--
  19. I don't know if I can agree with that, especially on the scene in episode 8 where Ibuki freaks out because she didn't get any sleep and Akagi was pissing her off. Also, as mentioned earlier, ADV screwed up on some of the punch lines. For example, in episode 4, Akagi and Ibuki are having a conversation. During the conversation, Ibuki hands Akagi a canned beverage. Then, all of a sudden... (Japanese version) -- Akagi: "Ibuki!" Ibuki: "What is it?" (Akagi looks at the beverage.) Akagi: "Is this a new product?" -- Here's ADV's version: -- Akagi: "Ibuki!" Ibuki: "What is it?" (Akagi looks at the beverage.) Akagi: "Did you get this from insurance?" -- I just finished watching disc 2 and I have to say it gets more hilarious. In episode 9, Dai-Guard has to defeat a balloon-type Heterodyne. And because it falls numerous times while attempting to catch the Heterodyne and is incapable of climbing mountains, Dai-Guard is disassembled and re-assembled at least four times throughout the episode. ADV changed and "tweaked" the English-vocals script quite a bit to make it more American-centric humor, instead of Japanese-centric humor. So you wll find the punch-lines from the various jokes in the Japanese-vocals/Japanese-translation script to be missing here and there. It's kinda like the way the english-vocals on Golden Boy (another ADV title) were more hilarious and better to listen to, and had alot more punchlines than the english-subtitles/japanese-translations. It's something they usually do to the english-vocals in some of their titles. Sometimes it's just good and great (dai-guard, golden-boy, excel, Nukunuku), and sometimes it's a bit crappy in others (Samurai X, FMP, EVA). I watched the whole (disc 1-6) series in japanese and english dubs. Both have their separate charms, especially in the comedy. I normally watch anime in japanese-vocals, but Dai-Guard is one of those few I prefer to listen to the english-vocals. your mileage may vary, however.
  20. from the latest http://www.Animenewsnetwork.com news-blurb. http://sailormoon.channel.or.jp/jisha/cast_01.html just an fyi to the sailormoon-fanboys here at mw.

  22. get and use CDEX. it's free and easy and it's really good. http://www.cdex.n3.net/
  23. saw this Ruri-auction blip from Animeondvd.com forum:. http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f6068393
  24. Have no idea, dude, since I buy from him locally. Anecdotally, tho, the one time I ordered for an out-of-state friend's bday-gift, there weren't any problems reported by my friend at all when the items were delivered. That's the only time I ordered from RSC's online-store, tho. fwiw, I think he uses UPS and USPS for shipping. Oh, and he seems to only ship within the US territories at this time. So Canadian and other non-US region buyers are out of luck this time. Bummer.
