  1. oooh, Sheryl and Nora are perfect together!
  2. Yeah, the red is laser pointer and again it's a long exposure so I have time to move the light around. Then I did a quick and dirty overlap in camera with another image of just the blue LED light stuff. I'll have to sit down and actually do it in photoshop as I can't maintain keep the correct exposure because the blue LED shot is just so blown out so I'll have to move those elements over separately.
  3. me! got permission! woohoo!
  4. more of the same
  5. That's horrible to hear, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  6. I wouldn't mind smaller but I like the size it's at now.
  7. it comes with little scale valks.
  8. Well, finally got confirmation from Over-drive that my order was indeed lost and I'm to be refunded. I would have appreciated a coupon or discount or something but I'm just happy HLJ was still taking orders for the gamlin vf-22.
  9. meh, I'm against this knee jerk sentimentality that remakes or adaptations are automatic fails. There's plenty of movies that we hold in high regard or are even now classics that existed as previous works in various mediums, oral tradition, religious texts, fiction, poems, yes, even as movies. To say that Akira wouldn't work if it took place in NY is ridiculous and just shows that some of the deeper subtexts of the work aren't being examined. The ideas of religion, technology, autocratic government, genetic tampering and evolution are very mainstream themes and ones that could easily resonate with americans if handled correctly. Saying that Americans wouldn't "get it" because we didn't experience a nuclear attack on our soil does nothing but discredits and underestimates the american audience to empathize as well as showing a profound ethnocentric mindset of people who persist in the idea that people of another region or culture are somehow incapable of translating ideas or experiences not originally their own. Ultimately much of what formed Japanese cinema today was from borrowed literature and works from neighboring countries and from western nations. That hollywood and western audiences are looking outside of themselves for inspiration or yes, even the cheap remake a'la Grudge, may show on one level hollywood's perceived lack of originality (as if this were somehow a new thing, please look at the endless string of movies that mined the Bible) but on the other hand it represents a growth in the appetite and visual vocabulary of western audiences to accept stories and points of view previously thought alien and 'other'. Further, it's perfectly understandable that certain segments of the audience would be hostile or suspicious of certain genres or mediums. All people have their prejudices and it's silly to knock someone because they think cartoons are "just for kids" when growing up that's all they were exposed to. Like it or not, many people aren't going to go see a foreign movie or cartoon because of their preconceived notions of what those experiences will be like. A successful adaptation like The Departed or Bugs Life allows these untapped audiences to experience classic stories told in a way that is palatable to then, what is so wrong with that? A poor adaptation like Dragonball in no way diminishes the previous anime or manga, neither is it going to alienate an audience that was already predisposed against watching anime. To me, this knee jerk backlash is more about people trying to protect their niche and subculture rather than any genuinely sincere concern over how beloved properties are handled.
  10. Spielberg produces a lot of movies that he doesn't direct himself, look at transformers.
  11. yeah, it could have easily been turned down into a dumb "jumper" type chase movie with big 'splosions and effects driven with all of the ideas on technology and ripped out.
  12. What? Why are you so mean to me? Why are you picking on me? obviously this is some sort of vast moderator conspiracy to stifle free speech on these boards!!!
  13. well the legal issues are about macross right? So if they go with "robotech" and make new designs or use designs that aren't in contention, should be no problem.
  14. meh, don't care much either way. If it was good I would have seen it, if it sucked I wouldn't have. I think robotech is gonna be easier to translate and much more marketable (more toys, action figures, commercial tie-ins, etc) so I can see that project having more legs than Akira.
  15. heh.
  16. I don't understand where you're getting this "versus" argument from. Almost everyone here has said they like the vf-2ss design but not necessarily the show it's from. But hey, people have different tastes, not everyone likes 80's faux-futuristic ricer body kit look of the vf-2ss. You know, like how some people like porsches and some people like:
  17. psh, and you haven't ponied it up yet? Why, that's just walk around money!
  18. This thread is really hitting it's 2nd renaissance what with you back, and guys like Monster and other folk contributing the tasty mecha porn. Good times.
  19. LOL. Well then, put your poses man! So, I don't know if you're asking how that shot was taken or not but it's a string of LEDs like a mini christmas light set that I bundled up into a loose ball. I set the camera for a 1.3 second exposure, started the shot then draped the lights on the valk and yanked them away leaving the trail of lights. The 2nd pic, the one with the better exposure that isn't as blown out, I had the same lights in place already but turned off, when the camera started the exposure I flicked the lights on and off as fast as I could manage. Didn't get the same sort light trails but I thought the pic as a whole is nicer since it's not all blown hightlights.
  20. Ah... well, I can't wait to see the results when you do get it! ... Thanks ruskiiVFaussie! I remember that thread, maybe with more members picking up DSLRs and manual P&S jobs we'll see more interesting shots that play with light. I'm sure Dante and Vegas (when he gets his new camera) will wow you to no end. I'm still trying to dial in the right settings so it doesn't look all blown out. I'm not keen on getting a filter just for the added step down so I think I'm going to find a dimmer and rig it to the lights so I can control the intensity a little better.
  21. go for the 5D!
  22. So what camera did you settle on? You going for that 5D?
  23. well, there's a reason it cost so much...
