  1. Did the first oil change on my car and used Castrol Edge Synthetic since it was on sale at Walmart and a Wix oil filter. I don't know if they were using regular or partial synth before I purchased this car but I noticed an immediate improvement (albit small) in my mpg since doing the change. I know Royal Purple claims an increase of up to 5% in fuel efficiency but wasn't sure about the other brands (Mobil 1, Castrol) I wasn't aware all Synth oil provided a noticeable improvement.
  2. More Hornet goodness. At 8:48, I'm assuming that's an Indian Su-30MKI.
  3. I'm still under the belief that there was too much ambition placed on the F-35. A single airframe trying to fulfill the roles of 4 different aircraft for the 5th generation. This may open some doors also for the Gripen E. I sometimes wondered years back if something similar to what happened between the F-16 and YF-17 could occur in the JSF program with the F-35 going to the Air Force and Navy and the Marine Corps adopting the X-32.
  4. Nice looking bird. Welcome back to the aerospace world Mitsubishi. Some old school appreciation. I believe it's an A-4C.
  5. A Rafale would look better on an F-22s wing.
  6. Since it was for sale, I got Microprose F-117 off Gog. thus far, I haven't been able to run it though. Put into compatibility mode and ran it as an admin, get to a screen asking if I'm using a joystick and no Y/N input works. If I hit a number or arrow key, the game crashes. Any idea what to do? Haven't found any solutions on the Gog site.
  7. Pentagon: But but, the Russians are doing it, and it makes for a great airshow demo (when we can afford the fuel) P&W won a contract for an additional batch of F135s. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/14/united-tech-fighter-engines-idUSL2N0S92NY20141014 Are there any performance comparisons between the GE/RR F136 and the F135?
  8. My friend that lived behind me had this. I remember being so jealous of him as he had all the cool GI Joe toy sets. It was fun being a kid in the late 80s, early 90s.
  9. Too true sadly. I haven't had the chance to play Alien Isolation. Waiting until after my PC build to pick it up. Rather see the real graphical potential over the water-downed PS3 version.
  10. I never played F-19. I played it's pseudo successor, F-117A. I recall reading on the F-19 game wiki page that the Soviets bought up quite a few copies of the game.
  11. The original CM demo is the game we should have gotten are my thoughts but that's beating a dead horse.
  12. Ofcourse in exchange, the Soviets got their hands on the AIM-54A which probably played a huge role in the development of the R-33 Amos used on the MiG-31. I would have preferred to have seen all of the F-14A and B models retired in 06 and kept the remaining Ds in service until 2018 or so. Atleast until the messiah that is the F-35 enters Naval service.
  13. An interesting "What if" for the F-14 if development had continued for the D model and beyond. http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-history-f14x.htm
  14. Some better news for WRC fans. It's just a shame that the wait will be a couple years. http://www.auto123.com/en/racing-news/rally-2017-rules-to-change-the-face-of-world-rally-championship?artid=169583
  15. Forgot about the GR4. I always thought the F-15E was more in line with the Su-30 as a multirole strike aircraft rather than a deep interdiction craft granted it did replace the F-111. Speaking of the Vark though.
  16. Had the RAF considered purchasing the A-10 ever? Still love the F-111 and it's shame a true successor never really came to pass unless that ends up being the F-35. The closest aircraft still in service that are in the Aardvarks class are the Su-24 and 34.
  17. I remember a story in the 91 Gulf War of an Eagle pilot chasing down an Iraqi Mig-25 and having to contemplate using his gun on it after nearly running out of missiles from the Iraqi pilot constantly decoying his shots. His final Sidewinder finally nailed it in the end. It made it on that Air Combat show as well. The gun and dogfighting skills are still necessary in my view as combat is an unpredictable beast. I doubt our opponents will be 3rd world nations with primitive air forces forever.
  18. Yeah, pretty much this. The Avenger is great against softer targets and older generation tanks, ex. the T-62. The M1A1 on the other hand would require a Maverick or Hellfire to put it out of commission quickly. There have been reports that ISIS has captured SA-24 manpads. Definitely not comforting for pilots. Very nice Viggen pic.
  19. Tornado GR4s are now joining the party in Northern Iraq. http://news.sky.com/story/1343207/iraq-british-jets-on-first-combat-mission
  20. It's been out alittle while but still my favorite Sim promo. DCS A-10C.
  21. I forget but other than an avionics overhaul and ability to drop laser-guided munitions, are there any other big differences between the A-10C and the A?
  22. Abrams, Armored Humvee's, M113s and T-55/62s (these are scrap anyway) Sad indeed to see us turn a Maverick or the Avenger on our own equipment. I'm surprised and not so surprised to hear the Raptor was used. I don't feel it was totally necessary as it's role could have been handled by B-2 or an F-15C (for escort) The best planes Assad can put up is the Mig-29 and Mig-23MLD. I know we used the F-117 to bomb Panama in 1989 when it was still technically secret. Also, Israel shot down a Syrian Su-24 after it went not even 1km into its airspace.
  23. I'd imagine the controversial divider on the canopy would have been replaced by a similar canopy as the F-22A. I wonder if an F-23 would have received a similar paint scheme or would they stick to a solid color. It looked nice in black although that's not great for daylight missions. Also, would it have received the name "Raptor" or something else. I did like the name "Black Widow II"
