The tonal variation on the panels looks really great.

I also think you just nailed the look on this one:

Thanks I tried to tone down a little the yellow and red

That Tomcat looks great Joscasle. The color variations look realistic. - MT

    Thanks!

Honestly, I think that looks nearly perfect.  I would actually ramp up the shading toward the nozzles as well, maybe make the rear engine nacelles more uniformly dark.  While I'm not sure the movie models were painted with metallic shades, that might look good on the nozzles themselves.

I was going to suggest toning down the brightness of the yellow, but I can already see you're working on that with the upper nacelles, and weathering the rest of the ship like you have the back half should look great.

YEah the nozzels need work, I think the yellow will be tone down a little with the oleos.

Looks okay at this stage. Will you be panel lining the entire ship? I would wait till you finish that step before deciding what to do with the engines.

mmm... yes and no. I will use oleos to color some panels and give some color distortion, noting too big, just a little effect, then see if the panel lining is needed.

I'm still waiting for them to pick up the ball and make a 1/48 YF-21 to match the YF-19. ^_^

Dropped a backorder for that 31A kit though, I missed out the first time.

Same here. Waiting for that since 2009!!!

That is flat out gorgeous.. I hope I can get any of my set looking that good!

I'm tempted to pick up more of those, honestly.  I've got the main three for a trench run, but would love to branch out and do a couple more schemes from the EU.

Of course.. I should probably take the time to finish the other dozen X-Wings I have stashed away.. I probably have at least six of the original MPC mold, plus the larger AMT electronic version, as well as two Fine Molds 1/48s, and four of the Bandai 1/72s.  With all the advances in the newer kits, I can probably use them for reference to make some huge improvements to the older ones.

Thanks!! I want to build the 6 models made for the first movie, all in 1/48. I all ready have Red 3 build from a 1/48 Fine Molds,  and other 2 Bandai 1/48. Red 5 Will be next. It's the same with Macross, I want the main valks from the TV in 1/48!!!!

The parts breakdown of that 1/48 X-Wing is probably one of the best things about it.  First kit that you can actually attach the wings after painting and sealing the fuselage.

I'm mostly not a fan of the electronics because I hate having to plug in the ship to open the wings (fixable with mods), but I also noticed that the vanes in the exhaust look too thick compared with the 1/72 version.  I wonder if they're oversized to better balance the light from the engine bulbs?

I might actually mix and match components from the Fine Molds version, since I think the nozzles on that kit are slightly better looking.  Or, if I wanted to go a little wacky, I might source nozzles from a 1/72 F-4.

    Mostly agree with you !!!

  7. Hi there!

Well, I started working on my next project: Bandai 1/48 X-Wing. The Tomiya 1/48 Tomcat is almost done, with the whole Covid-19 situation (Costa Rica is also having problems). I have a little more time to work on the X-Wing and other projects that I have not worked on, like my Hasegawa 1/4000 SDF-1 TV version attack mode and the 1/72 VF-25. For now, photos of the X-Wing. I'll build Red-4 from A New Hope Death Star Battle.

    That's coming along real nicely.

I'd give the decals a light dusting with grey to tie them in with your beautiful weathering.

Yep, that's the next step when  I finish the decaling.

Need to be done in a very lightly way!

none of mine are built yet, however:

My plan is to drill a hole into the arm/arm armour, epoxy a brass tube into it, and telescope that over a brass rod mounted in a base.

depending on how well they balance [likely better than a 1/60 because of the weight difference] a flightpose stand might work [or 2 FP standsonly using 2 arms each, might be a better option].

Yetistand makes acrylic stands and adapters. he's a member on MW (@ChaoticYeti) and has several mount/interface options.

Thanks Slide, those Yetistand looks really nice!, A little expensive but very nice!
