  1. We all know that Macross as franchise changed over time, SDFM DYRL are classic animes with great history, great character development, good music, love triangle and by the time it was made, really good animated battle scenes , ahhh and mecha designs. The tone of the anime was balanced, some silly things happen (all mentioned above), but a lot of very serious things and some humor as well. Flashbacks 2012, even as a musical is more serious than Delta (at least for the moment).

M + is no different from DYRL or SDFM, is in the same tone (I'm not talking about budget), only uses other characters with different personalities, the music is good, although not on the same level of importance it had in SDFM or DYRL, but it's there.

M7 mmm ... here things start to change, Basara pilots his VF-19 with a guitar as controls and singing at the same time, it is not a good thing, the whole band piloting their own Valks playing and singing is terrible, but M7 still has a certain sense of Macross, I'm seeing for the second time M7 (episode 28), just because Delta seems to be very similar to it, but I'm thinking that is very different.

Zero, mmm Zero is a different thing, start with one of the best scenes of aerial combat all Macross and in tune with SDFM and M +, but the last 2 episodes were not so good, but I like Zero. The design of the Valkyries was pretty good, the dogfights were great, music is not a big deal and the story a bit strange, but is held in the end.

Frontier, a little softer in tone than the other Macross, but the music is acceptable, (Diamond Crevasse is great song), nice Valkyries, good enemy, good plot at the end. Frontier has some problems, but overall is much better than M7.

Delta in only 1 episode feels totally different, I know you have all the above mentioned elements that are similar to SDFM, but no need to have a scene of transformation of 4 girls, there is no need for the Valkyries dance (really) , you do not need stupid formations to leave the girls in the middle of a battle, that is not Macross at all, at least not that I knew.

I saw Sailor Moon in the 90's (I know there's a new one), also saw Sakura Card Captor, I have no problem at all with this kind of anime, but the fusion of Macross and Sailor Moon is not a good thing in my opinion, They do not mix well at all.

As I said before, I hope Delta improves with time, but do not think this is the case.

  2. Very similar, yes.

:) Do the exercise!! ! I already done it, similar aspects very different anime!!! SDFM is more militia oriented, Delta at least in these episode is no at all, its like a rainbow warfare, lots and lots of colors (even the Valks).

Lets hope Delta improve with the next episode. BTW I don't think Macross is just about the TOYS, like some people think.

  3. Macross hasn't been doing this stuff for decades, and no matter how many times you repeat it isn't going to make it true. I've seen every Macross production atleast twice (including 7, which I actually have on DVD), and I've been following this franchise since the beginning. I KNOW what this franchise is and how it has evolved, and I know what it is not. Despite the callbacks (which they did in Frontier, did we need to do them again?), Delta does not feel like Macross, and I have a very hard time suspending my disbelief with a lot of what I see. That is their failure, not mine. You don't care about these issues and you like it, and that's fine. But don't try to tell me I am wrong by twisting facets of the franchise to fit your view, and then go on to totally ignore and misrepresent what people are saying to make your convoluted argument.

Anyway, I am done here. See you next episode.

I agree completely. I'm at episode 27 of Macross 7 (second run), even M7 feels like Macross, in one way or another. Delta don't, and I'm not talking about the Sailor Moon transformation, I'm talking about the dancing with Valkyries, the VF-31 entrances like if they were in a concert in stupid formations, Valks without gunpods, etc, etc, etc.

Let's do an exercise, see the first episode of Macross Plus and then see the episode of Delta, a totally different anime. I know, M + is an anime of the 90's, but Sailor Moon too. The new Valkyries (VF-31) is nice as a fighter, but as Battroid is truly ugly, skinny and without gunpod, seriously ???

  4. Good day, guys. I haven't bought any Macross toys in years, and I just started doing WWII plane models this year. Looking forward to building Macross kits in the near future. Any good kits in 1/72 to recommend?

I know you said 1/72, but the 1/48 VF-1's are easier to build, solve some issues with legs and arms of the 1/72, you can build proper version of the TV Valk and of course are bigger!!!!

In 1/72 I recommend the VF-11B, even the Super Thunderbolt is very easy and nice kit.

  5. I will love hi-res images of the latest Hasegawa Macross box arts, most of them are just great.

    1/48 VF-1 Strike Valkyrie

    1/48 VF-1 Súper Valkyrie (Max /Miria)

    Both 1/72 VF-25 Super

    All the Gerwalk releases

    Etc etc etc

  6. I think Hasegawa need to expand his 1/48 line. The VF-1 it's a great improvement over the 1/72. Shape is different, specially the legs, TV and movie versions of the cockpits, canopy and pilots (still no Miria figure :( ), but only 2 molds (VF-1 and YF-19) . I assume the 1/48 line its not very popular. I will love a VF-11B, YF-21 and VF-1 gerwalk in 1/48, battroid too obviously but I don't think Hasegawa will do a battroid kit again.

  7. As far as I can see they only did them for the VF-25. The doors for the VF-1 arent so bad as to be only a little painful to fit otherwise its just a matter of using some plastic card to make some edges around the wheel wells so that the doors sit flush and then a little putty and sanding and they look very decent.

wait for the main gear :(
