  1. A few months ago I started the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-25F, I want to paint all or at least most of the marks and don't use the decals (bad idea). This is the progress at the moment, made a lot of mistakes.

Much work is still needed to be done, I have painted everything black as a base and masked the shapes of the marks (error !!!!!), now I had to cover the strip black and repaint the red mark on the top of the fuselage, the other marks are painted and the decals were not used.

I stepped away from building for a while....some personal issues in my life and lost interest in it....but I’ve started up again. In honor of May the 4th here are my 2 Bandai B-Wings I’ve been working on. Still need to finish the cockpits, pilots, and then decal. 1 custom and 1 will be the battle of Endor Meatball marked one.

Yay! Finally a little progress after so much cutting, putty and sanding to correct the fit. Nice to have the Federal Standards chip book to mix paint colours.  I usually go a shade lighter for scale and allows for post shading - however my FS 36375 sample seems to have this weird purplish tint that I didn't reproduce, I made it towards the blue side of things as FS 36320 has a strong blue hue to it that I didn't want it to clash.  I think I'll try that black decal idea for the canopy interior - thanks.IMG_9701_resize.JPG.549d6fe5f6f73fb0ad50266d7e455bc6.JPGIMG_9702_resize.JPG.713f2eaff927db7e040a729eed9ebd2c.JPGIMG_9706_resize.JPG.8bcaf8a583a17cb1eb27eaf6323129b8.JPGIMG_9707_resize.JPG.b24ea29862cd92bb269ebf70dfb05a59.JPG

Thanks!  I have 3-4 Hasegawas (but I think they might be on the back burner after my experience with the F-18F) and I have 2 FineMolds (one boxed and one part of that original magazine subscription).  I'd like to try this GWH, so is this the best 1/72 F-14 (regardless of price) or is the FM still better than this one?  How about the Academy?  I don't mind paying for a well detailed/engineered kit.

You are right, Academy just launched a new 1-72 F-14A (Tamiya scale down but acedmy's quality) . I love the Fine Molds Kits, great quality, great detail and great fit (same as Tamiya)

Wow!!! @joscasle simply wonderful.  Perfect amount of weathering.  So inspirational.  I wished Tamiya scaled down that beauty into 1/72 scale.  Might have to bite the bullet someday and get that kit.  You've really brought all the details out!  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot!! Fine Molds 1/72 F-14A Tomcat is very good, it has the same detail and the same great fit, don't need to wait for Tamiya, really.

The tonal variation on the panels looks really great.

I also think you just nailed the look on this one:

Thanks I tried to tone down a little the yellow and red

That Tomcat looks great Joscasle. The color variations look realistic. - MT

    Thanks!

Honestly, I think that looks nearly perfect.  I would actually ramp up the shading toward the nozzles as well, maybe make the rear engine nacelles more uniformly dark.  While I'm not sure the movie models were painted with metallic shades, that might look good on the nozzles themselves.

I was going to suggest toning down the brightness of the yellow, but I can already see you're working on that with the upper nacelles, and weathering the rest of the ship like you have the back half should look great.

YEah the nozzels need work, I think the yellow will be tone down a little with the oleos.

Looks okay at this stage. Will you be panel lining the entire ship? I would wait till you finish that step before deciding what to do with the engines.

mmm... yes and no. I will use oleos to color some panels and give some color distortion, noting too big, just a little effect, then see if the panel lining is needed.

I'm still waiting for them to pick up the ball and make a 1/48 YF-21 to match the YF-19. ^_^

Dropped a backorder for that 31A kit though, I missed out the first time.

Same here. Waiting for that since 2009!!!

That is flat out gorgeous.. I hope I can get any of my set looking that good!

I'm tempted to pick up more of those, honestly.  I've got the main three for a trench run, but would love to branch out and do a couple more schemes from the EU.

Of course.. I should probably take the time to finish the other dozen X-Wings I have stashed away.. I probably have at least six of the original MPC mold, plus the larger AMT electronic version, as well as two Fine Molds 1/48s, and four of the Bandai 1/72s.  With all the advances in the newer kits, I can probably use them for reference to make some huge improvements to the older ones.

Thanks!! I want to build the 6 models made for the first movie, all in 1/48. I all ready have Red 3 build from a 1/48 Fine Molds,  and other 2 Bandai 1/48. Red 5 Will be next. It's the same with Macross, I want the main valks from the TV in 1/48!!!!
