  1. That's right! No more RRoD! If you buy the new "slim" 360, you are guaranteed to NEVER have to face a blinking red light! ...because when they revamped the hardware, they left out the red LEDs.
  2. And the DSi launched (and still is) $170, not $130. $130 is the current price of a DS Lite. I'm calling $200 for the 3DS, if we're lucky.
  3. Definitely Peg. In what way does he remind you of Tigatron, MyClone?
  4. This one's my Linux box (Ubuntu 10.04)
  5. Pretty good. I think I would have liked it better if they didn't just throw you into a team deathmatch without explaining the controls or anything. Gameplay is third person shooter, but not as clunky as Gears of War. The face buttons, starting with X/square and going around clockwise, are reload, switch weapons, special power, and jump. R1/RB is for tossing a grenade, R2/RT fires your weapon. L1/LB does a quick forward dash, and R2/LT is aim. Clicking in the left stick transforms, and clicking in the right stick does a melee attack. There are four classes in the multiplayer, and only two are available: scout and leader. I tried a scout. I guess a scout is quicker? The scout's special ability is to turn invisible, but he didn't seem to have much heath and his weapons were kind of weak. I only managed to get one kill (and to give you an idea how bad that is, game is first team to 40). Judging by the multiplayer, I think most people are better off with Modern Warfare or Battlefield Bad Company 2, but Transformers fans who are tired of those games will definitely enjoy the mp. Unfortunately, the game doesn't really give us a look at the campaign, which is what I'm most interested in.
  6. OK, I'll play. This is my desktop on my laptop. My desktop on my... desktop is basically the same, except 16x10 instead of 16x9, I don't have Blu installed on it, and the wallpaper is a screengrab from when I played the Star Trek Online beta. If I turn them on later, I'll post my desktop on my Linux box and my Mac.
  7. Original hard drives won't fit, but early reports are saying that the new 360 uses a standard 2.5" SATA drive, ala the PS3. Actually, if you bust out the ol' Torx screwdriver and open up a 360 HDD casing, isn't it a standard SATA drive inside? Maybe, with a bit of surgery, you CAN use your original hard drive... If I still had Old Launchy, I'd seriously be considering a purchase of the new 360 as an upgrade. I know some people hate it (one of the blogs I was reading described it as if the VAIO people designed a Wii), but I'm seriously digging it. But Old Launchy passed away in... what was it, March? April? In any case, I wound up buying the Elite bundle with Forza 3 and Halo ODST. Kinda hard to justify buying another one already.
  8. Not sure if the ad is new. Is it the same one that was on Xbox Live like a week or two ago? All I know is that Shockwave is a Gamestop exclusive. I don't know if that means he's available in the campaign, or if he's only for multiplayer, or if they're making a toy, or if we're going to be able to buy the other store exclusives later as DLC (I want Jazz almost as bad as Shockwave).
  9. There's an error in the formatting. If you click the link, it'll read something like "http://http//kotaku...". Replace the second "http//" with "www." and you should be fine.
  10. It's pretty obvious that the clip is pre-rendered, and the actor is mimicking the footage rather than the software mimicking the actor.
  11. Do they have this one at your local Best Buy? I'm not usually into Dell, but I sell a lot of monitors in my line of work, and one thing I like about the Dell monitors is that they have a very matte surface, so there's a lot less glare on them than a lot of other brands. This particular one has DVI and VGA inputs, and the 1600x900 resolution and 5ms response is fairly standard, especially for the size. If they don't have that one at your local Best Buy, you could try this HP or this Samsung. If it was me, I tend to prefer the Samsung monitors and I usually avoid HP products in general, but HP's monitors are actually pretty good. Same resolution and inputs, and the HP actually has built in speakers (although I doubt the 2w speakers built into it are really what you're looking for). Also, if your Best Buy doesn't have the Dell I liked to, skip the STB2010 model that they are more likely to have, as it only has HDMI and VGA inputs.
  12. Well, my wife was out of town for the weekend, so I got bored, broke down, and bought Alpha Protocol on Friday. I finished it yesterday, and that's spending the bulk of Saturday and Monday doing nothing but playing. I thought it was a great game. Sure, it was no Mass Effect, but I feel like a lot of the complaints I was reading in some reviews are just unwarranted. Like they were approaching the game as if it were Splinter Cell with RPG elements, and not an outright RPG. I wrote about it more in depth here, but the bottom line is that I was definitely satisfied with the final product. Sure, it was a little buggy at times, but the solid story and entertaining gameplay made up for it.
  13. One final question... what kind of hookup do you plan on using? A lot of the smaller ones only have VGA, and some Dells only have VGA and HDMI. Is that good, or are you looking for DVI? Depending on the size of your speakers, could you turn them sideways and lay them flat at the monitor's base?
  14. You wouldn't consider ordering one online? I mean, I know it's kind of important to see a monitor with your own eyes before buying it, but I bought my monitor (Samsung T220) from either Amazon or Newegg, and I don't regret it at all. At the time, the only store that actually had it in stock on display was Circuit City, and even their going-out-of-business-open-box-display-clearance price was something like $100 more than I wound up paying for a brand new one. Also, when you say "20in or so" are you talking "limited space, so 20 inches is about right for me" or "between 20 and 24 inches, please"?
  15. I think their bug-eyed bot modes are pretty ugly too. I'll grant that positioning the doors or whatever to simulate their wings was kind of clever, but the result just doesn't look enough like them for me to be interested.
  16. Yes. That was its main purpose. In fact, I don't think I ever used a pre-Advance cart in mine. Anyway, with regards to the topic at hand, the original Mega Man games on the NES are pretty much my all time favorite games, especially the first three.
  17. Did anyone pick up Alpha Protocol? I've been really looking forward to the game, but it's getting rather mediocre reviews. For a developer born from the ashes of the incredibly talented Black Isle, Obsidian doesn't have the best track record. Instead of enjoying Alpha Protocol, I'm starting to worry about Fallout: New Vegas.
  18. Saw it last weekend. Wasn't great, but I was entertained. Good mindless fun.
  19. For real. I mean, at least Pontiac and Saturn looked different than Chevy, even if they were running on the same frames and engines. It always seemed to me like Mercury had an identical Ford twin, and was therefore totally redundant. Good deal on the Prelude, BTW.
  20. I saw it, and I thought it was ok. It's not going to make any top ten lists or anything, but I was entertained.
  21. Really? I just figured it was because they'd already had a Wheeljack in the Unicron Trilogy.
  22. He's mostly right this time (although still very random). The Japanese title for Pac-Man (pakkuman) is derived from "paku", a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound of a mouth opening and closing rapidly. Pakkuman was initially romanized as Puck Man, and I'm pretty sure there were some Puck Man cabinets out there. When bringing it Stateside, Midway wanted it changed because they (probably rightly) figured that vandals would chance the P to an F. As for Resident Evil, Capcom wasn't worried about a lawsuit if they released it in the US or Europe with the original Biohazard title (and certainly not by the band Wanzerfan's talking about, as the band would have to demonstrate that the likelihood of confusion between the game and the band was probable). Capcom wanted a title they could trademark, and Director of Communications Chris Evans pointed out that they would be unlikely to be able to trademark "Biohazard." They had an internal contest to pick a new name, and Resident Evil was the winner.
  23. If by "Rockstar bought the property" you mean "Rockstar San Diego developed the property and Rockstar Games published said property" then yeah, they "bought" it.
  24. Peg's an original character from IDW's Transformers comic book.
  25. Don't forget that we're supposed to get a repaint of Peg with a new Blurr head mold. Would that work for you?
