Then... no? It's honestly a toss up. On the one hand, when I see him he is instantly recognizable as Seaspray (which is more than I can say for the general run of Powerglide, although the Wal-Mart exclusive G1 repaint helped A LOT). On the other hand, I feel like they took a lot of liberties with him. His fanjets look funky, his face really doesn't look much like Seaspray, and I'm not a fan of the designers including "human" elements like a scuba mask, O2 tanks, or flippers. And his colors are a little off... not enough blue on his arms and feet, not enough yellow/gold on his head and thighs.

My wife wanted to go to Best Buy to look at refrigerators, and TRU is right next to it, so I popped in to look for Grimlock (I got all WFC Bee and Prime, plus Thrust and Peg, so I'm done looking for Generations figures until someone reports some sightings). No sign of him. Ironically, they had three or four Mindwipes. I passed, though. While he looks like a good enough figure, he doesn't match the Classics aesthetic enough. Speaking of, I'm trying to decide if I should get the new Voyager Seaspray, or if I should stick with my badly repainted Scout-class Storm Surge.

Because it's not the kind of comic Willis would normally do. I think he even admitted that he doesn't do comics about video games or even play video games that often, but he got WfC just because it's Transformers.

For the same reason I NEVER saw a Voyager Mindwipe? Not at Target, not at Wal-Mart, not at TRU, not anywhere.

The computer and electronics super geek thread

That still seems a bit much. I know Staples advertises $70 diagnostics. If they came to the same bad hard drive conclusion, you probably could have just bought the new drive, installed it yourself, then reinstalled Windows yourself. Then again, if you're not comfortable doing that much yourself, you'd wind up paying Staples something like $50 to install the drive and $100 to reinstall Windows (assuming you had your restore discs). So I guess that's about the same. -

How much was "more expensive than you wanted to pay"? I have an inherent mistrust of the Geek Squad. I'm curious how they came to that diagnosis, anyway. No offense, Chewie. I'm not saying all the black ties at all the Best Buys in the land are shady, but the ones at my local BB have a penchant for assuming that the people they talk to don't have a clue and that they can just make up whatever bullshit they want. Probably works for them 99% of the time, but then they go trying it on me. -

All Things Video Games Thread: II
mikeszekely replied to Wanzerfan's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Cheer up, I'm not playing Starcraft II. ...then again, I'm not playing RDR or WKC, either. I'm taking advantage of the summer lull to finish games I owned and played, but never completed. Like both Uncharted games. -
Early in July, WfC Prime and Bee turned up for a weekend, then disappeared. For maybe a week, it was nothing but Tuner Mudflap, Animated Ratchet, and those Bee masks. Then Seaspray, the PPCs, some Hunt for Decepticons Deluxes, the new Leader Prime, and Leader Starscream started hitting the shelves. I was frustrated, because I could see TRU getting new product, but it's taken until just this past weekend for me to find Thrust and Peg. Oh, and they still have a crap ton of those stupid Bee masks. A whole endcap, in fact. I'm kind of hoping they go away, and TRU gets enough Grimlocks to stick them there.
-
That's new? I saw him like a week or two ago; I might have picked some up for the board members had I known he wasn't out en masse yet. Personally, all I really need is MP Grimlock. Then I can return to the peace of not having to drive around town twice a week looking for Transformers. At least not until WfC Megatron and Soundwave start hitting shelves...

*sigh* They always blow their budget on the TV, then want to scrimp on what they plug into the the TV... While $500-$600 will get a you a computer that you can connect to a TV, it's going to be decidedly mid-range at best. -
I will say this much... Peg's pretty poseable. Between his shoulders and his wrists, he has enough articulation to hold the big sword with both hands, with a range between holding it in front of him battle-ready to holding it above his head, as if about to deliver a final blow to his enemy. Bludgeon can barely hold his longer sword two handed, so I've got him pose with Peg with swords crossed.
-
Yep. I've found that if you rotate the hood/fenders back further, so the headlights are almost pointing to the ground and nearly flush with the back of his arms, it'll elevate his shoulders instead of sticking them forward, but it'll kind of restrict his range of motion a tad. Can't decide if I like it better that way or not.

Went to my local TRU today. I was pleased to find both Thrust and Peg there. Thrust is great. While his wing fans would have been better molded into the wings ala the Botcon one, they're still pretty evocative of the original G1 toy. And you've got options... pose his wings down with the fans on the underside for a more traditional look, or flip them like the non-conehead seekers and peg the fans into the top for a more modern look. You can even peg them into his rear stabs for a... slightly retarded look. Sure, he's not perfect, but he might be my favorite version of the Classics seeker mold so far (and mine's eyes are ok!) Now if we could just get Hasbro to do Thundercracker already... As for Peg, there seems to be a lot of love going around for his mold. I like the head sculpt. I like the way the swords store in both modes. I even like his Kawamori-esque hip kibble. His transformation is a little intricate without being as much a pain as Sideswipe/Sunstreaker or Smokescreen/Prowl/Bluestreak. But I'm kind of surprised no one's mentioned how crappy his shoulders are. They stick out too far in the front, and seem a little close to his torso (which is kind of narrow, compared to his feet), with a lot of kibble hanging off the top (basically the front half of the car).

Maybe I'm a minority, but I actually like Blue Peg Blurr. He's got the IDW Blurr down to a T.
-
I'm as excited as you are! Get me Kup, Shockwave, and Wheeljack and I'll have basically all of the non-combiner, non-base Transformers I'd want (although I wouldn't mind a Classics Soundwave, Generations Soundwave will work).

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
mikeszekely replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
While I'm stoked that a Macross ____ Frontier games is coming to the PS3, I'll be kind of bummed if it's only going to have Frontier mecha and missions. A bump in graphics doesn't really make up for a step backwards in other content. Maybe we'll get extra lucky and a new Gundam Battle game will come out for the PS3 with the next Unicorn Blu-ray... -
Nope, he's a TRU exclusive.

I popped over to Target after dinner this evening. The Transformers at my Target used to be at the left end of the aisle, now they're at the right end. And a display that was previously Iron Man 2 stuff and later Toy Story 3 stuff is for Transformers now. The problem is, aside from a few Activators and one or two Power Core Combiners, they don't have anything. Just rows of empty pegs. Still, it's a positive sign that Target's ramping up for some new Transformer action.

I'm not even sure what the hold up is. We know they were manufactured, and we've seen them in their packaging. I figured the first delay was because they wanted to hype it a little more at Comic Con, but now? Either they're going to start shipping out and turning up in local stores soon, or TRU found that the demand was way higher than anticipated and wants more manufactured first. Either way, buying one online (if it were even possible now) doesn't seem like a viable option at the moment. I'm just going to look for him on my thrice-weekly pilgrimages to my local TRU (where I'm still searching for Peg and Thrust... yeah, I'd order them from HTS at this point, but they're out of Peg).
-
TRU is an abbreviation for Toys R Us. I plugged Houston, TX into their store locator and found 10 of them within 25 miles of Houston. Since you mentioned your Target is in Copperfield, I plugged Copperfield, TX into the store locator and found one within 3 miles, in College Station on Harvey Rd. Does that sound familiar? I'm not sure if that's the right one or not. If you put Copperfield, TX in Target's store locator, it gives you an "incomplete information" error, so I'm not sure which Houston Target is the Copperfield one.

All I can say is that when I used AVG, it seemed like Firefox took forever to scan a downloaded file. I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials, and then problem stopped. The problem seems to be a Firefox thing, since I had a similar issue with AVG that you're having with Norton, but what AV you use does seem to be a factor. -
My TRU didn't have crap over the weekend, but I got time. I figure I'll pop over tomorrow and see what kind of pickings they got. EDIT: They still don't have jack crap.

Yeah. As I said in the main TF thread, it's like Bayformers Animated. And with Hasbro's cryptic mumblings about how War for Cybertron is canon for TF going forward, Transformers Prime is looking way too much like a "let's mash the various Transformers continuity into a unified whole." Not to mention the fact that, while I think they worked fine for the movies, I haven't thought the Bayformers designs made for the best toys. I don't see TF Prime's toys (if/when they release any) being any better.

I think it's too early to get excited over or criticize MP Rodimus. This pic isn't much more than a note confirming they're making an MP Rodimus, and a line art drawing of Rodimus Prime. The line art looks more like a character reference than a sketch of the prototype toy, which gives them plenty of time to try to work the trailer into his transformation (like Titanium Rodimus) or come up with something better than a scaled-up version of the G1 toy.
