  1. Yeah, I remember the prototype, but want to see an updated painted version. Right now this one doesn't look so great for all the reasons Jenius mentioned, but I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt because this is an unpainted prototype and may not fit together as tightly as a more completed version.
  2. Really need to see what the fighter mode looks like before I can make a decision. The soldier mode looks a little off, but if they nail the fighter mode than some of those flaws might be forgivable. The way that nosecone extends far below the crotch is, to me, a hint that they are looking to optimize fighter mode. As for the ride armor -- looks promising, def. more so than the Legioss.

Wait, what??? The Hi-Metal super parts come with sticker sheets? That's actually an interesting twist... the only supers I have came with the Hi-Metal VF-1S, and everything was already printed.
  4. Where in the link does it say it's a Robotech-branded product? All I saw was Macross.
  5. The only reason why I'd ever get a Beta/Tread is to link up with an Alpha/Legioss in fighter mode -- not a fan of any of its other modes. But from pictures I've seen that combination looks to be huge and I have nowhere in my display areas that I could reasonably fit such a thing.

I believe the word you are looking for is JENIUS!
  7. Guys, you forgot to read the fine print. It only grows to 1:2000 scale after you soak it in water.

Aw, to heck with it all -- let's give HMR it's own subforum! Who's with me??
  9. The photo is definitely of a V2 1/60 scale. Honestly, this one might be tricky, since the answer in the product Q&A section was not from the seller. You might have a stronger case if you had actual correspondence from the seller indicating that it was a 1/60 scale toy. The differences between the 1/48 and 1/60 scale are subtle if you go by photos alone. Seller could always go by the "stock photos vary slightly from the actual product" excuse. That's the tricky part about Amazon and eBay listings -- with the subtle differences between the 1/60, 1/60 v2, and 1/48 lines, you have be very careful that you are buying the real thing. I've seen listing for a 1/60 v2 on eBay that were using 1/48 photos, or 1/60 v1 photos that were slightly blurred out.

Having to wait for the Max doesn't bother me since I probably wouldn't have done anything with it without Milia anyway. I'm just wondering if there's anything that could go wrong with having them hold it for so long.

Has anyone ever had any issues with having an in stock item held to ship with a pre-order at Nippon Yasan? Just bought a Max 1J at NY and placed a pre-order for Milia in the same order, and apparently NY's policy is to wait for the pre-order release and ship it with an in stock item together, sort of like HLJ private warehouse. I've never done a mixed order like this.
  12. The sculpt and paint deficiencies are fairly obvious, but I'd say that the nostalgia for the toy is driven more for the fact that it's durably constructed to withstand actual handling and play. Even with deficiencies -- it's a pretty good representation considering it's a 30 year old design.
  13. The paint on that custom Gakken is great, but the thing that I always gets me is that the custom pilot figure.
  14. Why is there a Yamato V2 VF-1 fighter mode adapter listed for sale on the website? http://yetistand.bigcartel.com/product/yamato-arcadia-1-60-v2-vf-1-series-adapter Doesn't the V2 come with a fighter adapter already? Will it not work with the Yeti parts?
  15. I thought the Toynami sculpt was fine. It just needed better build quality. Sturdier hands, some ratcheted joints, remove the die-cast from the legs and you'd have a much better toy without changing the sculpt at all.
  16. It looks sort of "eh" to me. The proportions seem off -- the tail section in fighter mode, i.e., the lower legs and feet/thrusters, look big in comparison to the rest of the fighter. It almost looks like they took the intakes, fuselage, cockpit, and arms from a MPC Alpha and stuck it onto the legs of a Gakken Legioss. And I'm not sure I like the way the transformation for the feet looks like. The heel and the rest of the foot seem to fold into each other.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Yeti stand with peg holes could accommodate the display arms from the Tamashii stands?
  18. With all these wireless components, battery life's going to be an issue. Hopefully they will be replaceable and not sealed in.

I think the HMR arm transformations are affected by the metal used in the shoulder joints. The metal shoulder joints are stiffer compared to the original Hi-Metal, but unfortunately the sockets don't grip the ball joints as well as in the original plastic shoulders, with the result that when you apply extra force to move the stiffer shoulders you end up popping the arms off. It's happened to me a couple of time as well. They obviously added the metal thinking it would be more durable, but in hindsight it looks like it caused increased arm-poppage.

Those are fine improvements, but not enough for me to triple dip. At this point, they'd have to make some pretty significant improvements for me to want to get a third one. Then again, I'm not one of those people that makes a big deal about TV white vs. DYRL off-white.

Skipping because I have the HMR GBP *and* the original Hi-Metal 1J which has the TV Hikaru pilot figure.
  22. I was thinking it was too good to be true, but I was expecting that they would catch it before the item shipped. I had something like this happen with an Amazon seller who was selling a Yamato V2 Hikaru VF-1A for $50. I was thinking that it must have been some kind of mistake, but I took a chance since Amazon is pretty good about making things right if something goes wrong with an order. The day after I placed the order, I got an e-mail from the seller (who was in Japan) saying they made a mistake with the listing and that it was supposed to sell for higher. To his credit, he did offer to sell the item to me at the listed price, but added that he would be taking a loss so he would appreciate if I cancelled the order (which is what I ended up doing).
  23. I searched for Toynk and found their website. They are selling the beta on their own site as well... but for a lot more: http://www.toynk.com/robotech-new-generation-beta-fighter-mpc-volume-2
  24. Wow, I actually clicked on the link when it was still in stock but figured they would never actually ship those for that much. Maybe some of you that bought multiples can spread some of the love around here? ;-) Even with a small markup to cover original shipping and some profit, it's still way cheaper than anywhere else online.
  25. I didn't follow the VF-2SS thread. Can someone summarize what the problems were with the toy?
