  1. CBS and Warner Bros co-own the CW network, so it's not like they haven't collaborated before. Allowing crossover with the CW shows would actually be in CBS's interest, since they would be promoting shows for a network they own.
  2. Very nice. How're you liking the figure so far?
  3. For what it's worth -- the listing at BBTS says: Note - There are no changes to the figure for the second production run, but the wholesale and retail pricing have been raised $15 by the manufacturer.

Ok just tried it and seemed to work. Thanks.
  5. Built this kit as a kid... or tried to at least. Seeing those instructions reminds of that feeling of inevitable disappointment you get after spending so much time trying to built it only to never have it come out as nice as it does in the pictures.
  6. As far as return on investments for collectibles, a lot of it depends on whether the franchise continues to be relevant. A lot of comic book and science fiction franchises have had remarkable staying power over the years. Star Wars is nearly 40 years, Star Trek is approaching 50, most of the Marvel Silver Age characters around 50, Superman and Batman are both 75 years old. If some of the 80s franchises can continue to produce material and gain new audiences, collectibles from older generations may still retain some value for newer fans that become die-hard collectors. As for Macross, so long as Big West and Kawamori produce new TV shows and films, I think it'll do fine... in Japan. In the U.S. Macross will probably lose relevancy as kids from the 80s age. Robotech was a big factor in getting Macross popular in the U.S., and since Robotech is basically a dead franchise, and since it's impossible for most post-SDF Macross productions to be legally aired or distributed in the states, it's going to have a hard time gaining new fans younger than us.
  7. Perhaps they are raising the price on the second run to recoup the costs from including the extra stuff in the first run that was meant to address some of the shoulder ball joint issues.
  8. As great as they are, to be honest I think the Yetistands might be overkill for the Hi-Metal R. The one exception might be an adapter or arm configuration that lets you mount like 5 or 6 of them onto one base. Part of the appeal of the Hi-Metals is their smaller size enabling you to fit more of them into a smaller display space, but the footprint of the Yetistand would work against that. Besides that, the original Hi-Metals came with pretty good clear, plastic stand adapters in the box. These were designed to be used with the Bandai Tamashii Act 5 stands, which are a lot cheaper than the Yetistands, and work really well for the scale.

  10. It's telling about the health of the franchise when the most significant news amounts to "Hey look, something might happen!"

It looks like they've added additional tampo printing to the VF toys. The original Hi-Metal didn't have "UN Spacy" or "101" printed on the lower leg of the VF-1J toy. And not to start another color war, but to my eye the 1J appears to have a slightly beige/off-white color to it, whereas the original was a more brighter shade of white.

The overhead view of the line art VF-1 looks impossibly skinny in the rear section... like this is one example where I'd say that the line art got it wrong.
  13. The retailers think that they need to be glued in to comply with U.S. laws. However, it sounds like XTransbots is looking into providing "unofficial" instructions on how to safely removed the glued in plug without damaging the toy.
  14. According to the latest Facebook page update, Apollyon's orange barrel plug is going to be glued into the barrel. This was after the review copies had them plugged in but not glued, making them easily removable. Apparently some of the retailers requested that the plugs be glued into place.

What are those dark sections of the backpack hinge? Perhaps they have chosen to construct that hinge with metal?
  16. I like having multiple modes displayed, but not of the exact same valk -- it looks too much like a catalog or advertisement. There are also some valks that I only care for 1 or 2 of the modes anyway, so I just pick my favorite and leave it as is. The YF-19 fighter mode is ok, gerwalk sucks, but I love battroid so its stays in that mode.

So the GBP armored VF-1J will retail for 9800 yen. Isn't that's about what the Yamato v2 retailed for when they were first released? I actually think that's not a bad price point, considering the 1/60 version from Arcadia is listed as more than twice that price. That's about 80 bucks before shipping at current exchange rates. My guess is that the other VF-1 toys will retail at the same price. I'm also guessing that Bandai will probably go the Arcadia route, and instead of making separate releases for bare bones valks and valks +armor/super parts, they are just going to release each valk as a full-blown set with all the armors included and go for a single, higher price point. So, GBP Hikaru VF-1J, Super Max and Milia VF-1J, strike VF-1S, etc.

Are those grey goggles I see?
  19. I didn't think we'd get a season 2 until at least after the Defenders crossover. But given the rave reviews, I'm not surprised to hear this at all. They'd be stupid not to strike while the iron is hot and put out season 2 ASAP.
  20. I was just thinking of hobbies that might be more expensive than toy collecting, and realized that I had one sitting right under my nose this entire time: musical instruments. We have a Steinway grand piano given to us by my mother-in-law that I'm pretty sure is at least $30k by itself. We also have several guitars, keyboards, string instruments, and some recording gear lying around that probably totals to a hefty sum as well. On second thought, I maybe I shouldn't have gone there... now I'm thinking of all the valks I could buy if we sold the piano...
  21. I don't see what Arcadia can do to "fix" this. It's a tampo printing issue. It's not like you can send it back and have them re-print for you. Highly doubt they would send out replacement parts with corrected markings for this.

If you're referring to the hip joints -- they are set apart a little wider than the hips of the Yamato v2, but they also have a greater range of motion. I've had no problems with the hips in the three Hi-Metals I own. Although they are ball joints, the hips have stayed nice and tight.
  23. I have $0 dollars invested in my collection. I invest my money in financial or real estate products. Collecting and hobbies count as money spent without expectation of earning it back. If my toys went up in smoke, I'd be unhappy but I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
  24. Yeti's stand is the best one, hands down, in comparison to all the other options. The rest of the pack suffer from one or more of these shortcomings: unavailable in a clear material hard to find or very expensive unable to display in all three modes can only support one toy, so multiple toys require multiple bases taking up valuable display area limited to displaying one type or scale of toy I think Yeti designed a really simple, elegant, and flexible solution that works well across a number of different toys. One of the biggest strengths is that you can display multiple toys using one base. Also, since he's a forum member, it's really easy to get in touch w/him and provide feedback. He's introduced a number of different adapter types as a result of a few forum members indicating interest. Yetistands are not the cheapest stands, but they aren't unreasonably priced, and they provide the most value for your money IMO. That's saying a lot considering that most of the other solutions are being produced by larger companies with access to large-scale manufacturing facilities.
  25. Will the YF-29 adapter work with the VF-25?
