  1. It looks like they blew their villain load with the Joker. It seems pretty clear that they had intended for him to make a return. There just aren't any villains that Batman deals with that are a bigger threat than him. The only one who seems bigger is Ra's, and they pretty much killed him already. Maybe Black Mask? I dunno, he's not too well known. The Riddler just doesn't seem like a big threat, and while I'm sure Nolan and crew could make him one, it seems like they'd have to fundamentally change part of the character.
  2. That's a big block of black, now isn't it?
  3. I don't understand those of you who have said Iron Man was better than The Dark Knight. Now, I loved Iron Man, and I've seen it three times since it was released, went to the midnight and everything. That said, it was a cheesy, masturbatory fanwank- right down to the tease after the credits. It was awesome, and everything about it was perfectly Iron Man, but it wasn't a lasting piece of cinema. Just good fun, plain and simple. The Dark Knight, on the other hand, manages to not only perfectly encapsulate everything that makes Batman himself interesting, but also takes the themes of the Joker and Two-Face and brings them, successfully, into a realistic (however fantastic a masked vigilante might be) setting. Bale's Batman is spectacular, if only for the facts that his suit evolves with the changing criminal climate of Gotham City, and his growling voice that so many complain about. The costume is about intimidation first and foremost, you want a voice to go with that, something almost animal, second it's about concealing his identity. He needs to change the way he talks, and trying to alter your speech patterns seems like the sort of thing that could easily be messed up. Eckhart's Dent/Two-Face is fantastic in its own right. I won't spoil anything, but his transition is tragic and you really feel for him throughout the finale. The levels of corruption that you can see taking place are really fascinating. There's a lot to be said about human nature from his ordeal. Also- every scene involving his coin is a great time. Finally, Ledger's Joker is the end-all-be-all of Jokers. Everything about him is perfect. Many will complain or make note of the fact that he doesn't do as many zany jokes, and there are very few things he does that might be considered silly, but in everything he does there is a hint of humor and chaos. The ironic and dark jokes he makes through killing and destruction are what really make this Joker so much more than anything that has been seen outside the comics. Sure, he might not be chemically altered, but his disfigured visage really grounds him in reality, while the makeup still brings him to the fantastic and terrifying. The fact that he can make a death a funny situation is standing evidence to the character's portrayal in this film. Now, the characters and their interactions alone are enough for me to call this one a masterpiece, but apparently, the pacing seemed off to some- I also don't understand this complaint. It starts off with a bang, and then switches back and forth from lull to action for a short time before the Joker really starts to take hold of the story's direction. After things begin to fall into place, the pace of the film never really slows down, just builds and builds, faster and faster until the climax. Which, I feel is a good parallel to how tiring and hectic it would be to try and keep up with a loon like the Joker, and the plans he sets into motion. tl;dr- TDK somehow manages to not be overhyped, and brings more to the table than Iron Man. PS- the theater being too loud is not a legitimate complaint. If your music was too loud to hear the dialog, perhaps you should speak with the manager. I could hear everything perfectly fine. PPS- I suppose if I had to make a complaint, it would be that our long-eared buddy still doesn't do much actual detectiveing. There's a little bit, but I wouldn't call him the world's greatest by any stretch of the imagination.
  4. Judging from the trailer, it seemed less like the "If man proceeds down this path, he will be a threat to the universe, and must be stopped," and more like "You guys are messing up this planet, quit it... dudes." I don't know if I can get behind that. It just seems kind of stupid that an advanced alien civilization would care what we were doing to our own little rock on the edge of nowhere. But my friends will probably take me to see this anyway.
  5. While I agree it was kind of strange to see someone who spent the whole show in the background, just BAM show up in a super robot, but all in all I felt the finale was fantastic. Also, Lichty was a cyborg. He was badly injured in the attack where he lost his parents, and is 40% prosthetic. And all we know about Tieria, is that he is an 'artificial human' which could be android, or biological synthetic or something of that nature. It's possible that the cybernetic components require some kind of biologic connection; so stem cells could be required for the process to go smoothly, and we all know that Louise's are borked. Another possibility, is that only CB has cybernetics so advanced, though that doesn't make much sense.
  6. I think that since a united government was CB's goal, that instead of fighting the Feds and risking its dissolution, that Cb will work from within it as well to help shed light on Livonze's operation, and hopefully draw him out. Obviously, CB will still have some kind of offensive force though, since we already know they have at least 2 units that are up to par; with Oh probably being a functional relic. There's evidence of this in Regene wearing that Fed uniform from the epilogue montage.
  7. If you've seen 23, feel free to check this image
  8. I'll have to disagree there. The fun derived from mocking a film is inversely proportional to how serious it takes itself.
  9. Probably. The shaky-cam is pulled off the great effect, but it obviously could be a negative if you have a weak stomach. If you do convince her to go, try and sit as far back as possible, so that she can have a frame of reference outside the screen.
  10. This isn't the same as the movie that is being shown in the theaters.
  11. I just saw it, and I really have to say I wasn't expecting much given all the hype. However, it went above and beyond my expectations. The shaky cam is pulled off very well, and there are moments where sincere terror can be felt by the audience. Honestly, there were a few parts that seemed, 'iffy' at least from a probability standpoint, but still, it really is a must-see. They managed to even get characters you truly care about with unique exposition and through the events of the film; which is practically unheard of for sci-fi action pics/ monster movies, But they did it. To truly experience the film, you've got to see it in theaters. I'd give it a solid 4.5/5. It had some holes (mostly militarily), but I really enjoyed it.
  12. Having watched both the regular trailer, and the 5 minute prologue (on the IMAX), I'm really, fanatically excited for this film. Nolan is a great director, I've not seen Bale turn in a bad performance, and Ledger's Joker is disturbingly insane. The way these are coming together are going to make for an exciting film, from both a narrative and an action perspective.
  13. It's pretty much just this and 4chan, I of course go by anon there.
  14. Agreed, everything about the grunts in this show was so realistic, up until that. I don't understand why Sergei would allow a brightly colored machine to be deployed, even if they're supposed to be test colors. It's putting an awful lot of faith in Soma not to get thrashed. Then again, its Gundam, lol.
  15. I really adore the mechanical design for RahXephon. Everything is just so thought out and detailed.
  16. I've got some new pics of Unicorn. I'm thinking it might light up, since all of its flash parts are clear red, and they aren't nearly brightly colored enough to match any of the art. Also, the box art makes it look pinkish, so that also pushes me to believe it may had an LED system.
  17. Or it's 00, because don't the unit numbers for the CB gundams have 0 before them? Like 01 02... etc?
  18. The face plate slides into the sides of the 'helmet', the horn opens up to become the v-fin, and the vent housings on the sides of the head swivel vertically 180 degrees.
  19. It's just the classic ankle armor. From a design perspective, it's definitely just aesthetic. Continuity-wise? Extra armor.
  20. I rather liked the show, though the OP and ED themes didn't interest me much. The animation was smooth, though admittedly poor in less important scenes, and the Gundams seemed like they actually had to fight for once. The fodder enemy mecha seemed like they were actually resiliant instead of just explosions waiting to happen. The characters are all kind of bland right now, and it feels like there should have been more exposition, but hopefully they will become more fleshed out as time goes by. All that said, I enjoyed it and look forward to the how it will turn out.
  21. I don't know you wouldn't think that it can perfectly transform. Near as I can tell, all of its "transformation" is just parts sliding around or raising up and sliding around. The only place the kit might have trouble is on the head where the parts will be very small.
  22. Apparently, the 1/100 Unicorn IS going to be a MG. It's also reported on Gunota; who says December release- I wonder if it will actually be out then?
  23. I wonder if it will actually be about Cthulhu. That would be pretty boss, I think. Especially being filmed from the perspective of all the people who are getting screwed by his awakening.
  24. THAT WAS EFFING FANTASTIC. Maybe I'm just a sucker for hard action peices, but man, I enjoyed the hell out of that movie. I will definitely see it again.
  25. The page isn't dead, it just doesn't have the joker image anymore. Go to the link and hit ctrl-A to hightlight the whole page. Seems like even more evidence of it being legit.
