  1. Started Kamisama Dolls. Features a remote village where country folks control technologically advanced mecha they regard as Gods. Hence the whole mystery surrounding the village and the families living there ala Higurashi.

Has token loli moe character and a male lead who isn't such an idiot....show seems to have dark overtones.

    Sticking with this for now.

Also picked up Usagi Drop which tugs at my heartstrings to no end about a 30 year old salaryman who takes care of his 8 year old aunt (too lazy to explain) out of the kindness of his heart. There's also a live action movie that came out in Japan starring Kenichi Matsuyama.

  2. Been watching 07-Ghost. My first impression was that it felt somewhat "brokeback", what with all the pretty boy characters. But as I kept watching the episodes, the character development was quite well done, and while nothing new, the story kept me interested.

Been watching it too....up till the 4th or 5th ep though. Feels really slow...and the bromance is really heavy in this show. >.<

  3. I got myself a barricade 2 weeks ago. Having lotsa fun with it. Only complaint is 10 darts is not anywhere near enough. Fire 10 shots fun, then the boring stuff....picking them up and reloading. :(

They could easily let it use the quick load system but they had to use a revolver barrel. zzz.

PS: saw some mods on youtube.....definately not for the faint hearted. >.<

  4. Ok, just purchased and watched the extended cut on Blu-ray today.

I hadn't seen the movie prior to today but was well aware of the mixed reviews. I have to say I enjoyed it, I can also see why or how an edited theatrical cut would be harder to follow than the extended version.

All in all I'm glad I purchased it and I can see myself watching this on more than this one occasion (even if I have to constantly adjust the volume for my neighbors during the fantasy scenes - damn the music and effects are LOUD).

    -b.

    Any idea what's the differences?

  5. Watched it yesterday. Was kinda disappointed. Acting was topnotch though especially for the child actors but plot was kinda thin. Feels like rehashed Spielberg 80's-era alien films.

    Feels very dated.

  6. Going entirely from the trailer....i'm gonna guess...

    - Mengsk still wants revenge against Kerrigan. Sends Nova to retrieve/assasinate her

    - Kerrigan still imprisoned for tests, to see that swarm has lost its grip on her

    - Raynor defending his beloved from the Mengsk hit squad

Game will be RPG-ish (based on earlier reports of the game) so it will be about Kerrigan regaining some of her brood, then from there expanding her influence once again, though still retaining her human conscience. Attempts to save Raynor who's being held hostage by Mengsk. As the game progresses and as Kerrigan regains most of her brood, Xel Naga (or that hybrid race) arrive and in a desperate struggle to save Raynor, she uses her powers to save him but not without the Zerg once again controling her mind and we're back to square one. The end. :p

  7. Did a little marathon and finished Banner of the Stars 2 and 3. I have to say that I find this saga to be maybe one of the most underrated anime I've ever seen. Great stories, characterizations and dialogue. And a well accomplished and believable love story. One really does not see that too often.I can only imagine that had it come out a decade earlier it might have been a huge hit.

A big thanks to all the folks who recommended Crest of the Stars. Would not have watched these jewels without the positive feedback I received.

Not sure if its underated since it was imported upstate pretty early on and was even on your adult swim channel if i not mistaken.

Pretty good space opera. Now, you gotta upgrade yourself to Legend of Galactic Heroes. No emo teenagers in space....but manly men in space. LOL.

  8. That isn't really explained totally.

You have to remember: She rewrote the universe entirely, witches do not and did not ever exist because she keeps it from happening.

The demons replace the witches. Those little chips apparently replace the grief seeds in a general way.

Also, if their gems get corrupted they still die. Sayaka in the new, Madoka-is-a-fundamental-force, universe still died trhough over-use of her powers. That was the scene at the violinist's recital. Madoka just prevents the witch/despair end.

    Yeah....

They still die but the power of equivalent despair (for the happiness a wish brings) still must go somewhere hence the demons. Madoka definately thought of wishing that the incubators don't exist or something that won't bother humanity, but QB mentions that without them, humanity would probably still live in caves. Hence the wish that the magical girls will get "saved" from being witches. The power harvested from those chips probably pale in comparison from the energy from grief seeds.

  9. Made my very 1st Hoihoi and combat-san yesterday. Very nice figs. My only complaint is that Hoihoi's hair "explodes" if you're not careful, since they're connected not in very tight joints. I'm looking at how to glue the thing together and remain modifiable (changing the faces).

  10. Just finished episodes 11 and 12 of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Shaft got themselves a winner, this show will be one of the classics. Solid plot, great characters and perfectly paced. The finale is in the finest traditions of the word epic.

Madoka's battle across space time and aftermath remind me somewhat of both Evangelions and Ideons ending just more hopefull. Nice twist was Homura actually being the source of Madoka's power as she made Madokas fate worse with every time loop thereby increasing her potential as a Magical Girl.

The postponed episodes were worth the wait, they look more polished. The anime is a definite must-buy for me. Miyamoto, Shinbo and Urobuchi outdid themselves.

Oh yes! Super epic finale. Not very unexpected but nicely done epilogue. I wonder how incubators collect energy now though. :/

There is a spine tingling chill to these epic words from the Madoka finale:

    Mahou%20Shoujo%20Madoka%20Magica%20-%2012%20-%20Large%2041.jpg

The best series for the winter season. Definitely the best genre "reinvention" ever. I'm curious about one thing...

Is Walpurgis Night the future witch form of Homura? I noticed the giant gears theme which looked a like the gears that click when the latter stops time. It'd be a rather interesting but cruel time paradox :p .

It may or may not be....since Walpurgis doesn't seem to have a host mahou shoujo to materialise from.
