Uh the 1s release and reissues were the same price. I don't think i'm missing the point because my argument is they were originally targetted towards COLLECTORS. I never even bothered to mention the reissues since AGAIN they were targetting collectors and the price was the same as the original release. I'm using the price-range as an indication of the toys' target market whereas you are basing it solely on the toy's less than stellar design without factoring the price and where it is being sold. If M7 was truly for kids the toys should've appeared in toy departments of stores, toys r us, etc for wider distribution considering M7's popularity during that time. But fact is they were only released in specialty stores. No doubt that now even toys r us carry collector grade toys but that was then. I remembered when I was looking for a VF-19 toy when i was very young but can't find it in any of the major stores. (I did find other M7 merchandise though like the small non-transformable gashapon-sized figures of the VFs.) Finally located one in a smaller toy shop, but gave up hope since the price was way above my parents' budget. 16 years later i finally got one.

I happen to be in Singapore for 2 weeks (till next week 14th) and wow....I found out that Evangelion 1.0 will be showing here on the 13th! Awesome! So i made a date with izzyfcuk who's a sg-er and he's free and interested. So whoever else who's in SG who wants to join us PM me and we'll arrange something. Also planning to hit the Sunday flea market to see if I can get my hands on a MH Mospeadas or some random stuff.

G-defensor and Skygrasper...the manned-control unit probably detaches when the bulk of it attaches to Exia.

It be better if it fit in 4 panels. Probably remove the 3rd panel. Otherwise

Except that the takatokus were actually priced about the same as high-range transformers then, Optimus Prime being the TF equivalent. I remember this cause my parents WOULDN'T buy me the high-range TFs, and the taka valks were one of my wish lists that fell above their budget. So i had to settle for the 1 gestalt part during my birthday. And it goes without saying TF didnt' last 6 birthdays for me to complete Devastator. Anyway point being, high range transformers still cost much less than the Macross 7 toys, even by today's Voyager Class Transformers standards. Thus I grade them collector's market toys.

You're basing your assumptions on the simplistic designs on who is the target market. Did you consider the price which is a more accurate basis on the target market? No parent (unless they're dirt rich) will buy for their kid a 6800yen toy. Super sentai and masked rider toys cost less than half of that. And about them appealing to collectors, hey...I bought them. But sure they're quite crap for the price they're being sold for but collectors collect anything, what more if its the only choice they have. And about MF getting treated better than E7, remains to be seen. More toylines doesn't mean anything. I wanna see the end products.

Someone online noticed which i didn't at 1st, but the GN-X look like landmates out of Appleseed.

the No Steps are the most annoying to put on. Wonder why they didn't tampo print those as well.

Don't own a nu so can't make the comparison. Its taller than my SEED models.

Found this hilarious: Everyone has a "uh oh...ozma is gonna die" feeling since the special. Even the seiyuu thinks so!

Any comments on the quality etc? So do all the 1s runs have the stickers?

Nice job lynn. Thanks for the translations!

I forgot to mention that I didn't include SOC and SPEC into the mix simply because they didn't sponsor the series that the designs came from. The SOC and SPEC line are based on mecha designs from old series they don't own. Since they paid a premium on the license, its only natural they have to do a good job on them (which should also be part of the agreements with the licensors) whereas series where they are directly sponsoring seem to be misused or taken for granted. Then why do you think they are priced at about the same price as the Yamatos at the time? Hardly the most affordable toy to buy for the little one don't you think? I really doubt your argument that the Macross 7 toys were meant as real TOYS. The way I see it, Bandai really wanted to cash in on the market that Yamato started.....but did badly. YF-19 1/72 = 6800 yen http://www.hlj.com/product/YMTMC-01 (wow its yamato's 1s product on hlj! ) Fire Valkyrie = 6800 yen http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN900136 (reissue version)

U should listen to the niconico medley featuring her and other "voice actor hopefuls". Its made full of win. Yes its popular that I made it into my NDSL theme, my desktop wallpaper, and my avatar/signature in another forum. Here - > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsdLNfT7-gc

So much msgs to sift through and its mostly hate or fanboy crap. The fact of the matter is Bandai has yet to prove their mantle in this. They haven't been making quality non-gundam toys sponsored by them in the past and the most recent examples of these are Eureka Seven and Code Geass. The fact that they are releasing the VF-25 in the Chogokin DX line (please note that DX is not the same as the mainstay chogokin line)is a bit of good news though not convincing enough as the Aquarion left much to be desired. So Bandai haters keep your pants on....and Bandai lovers, don't count your chicks before they hatch.

Now now i don't think anyone should be pointing fingers and blaming anybody. In everyone's defence nobody knew about the weathered VF-1S until 1-2 days before the event cuz before that it was still hush hush and only info about it was a "special" battroid sillhoutte of the 1/48 on Yamato's site. And also i think we're all nice enough not to bother other ppl with our selfish requests. Ebay prices are what they are. People are willing to bid for the price, they bid it and it'll go up. Its not the seller's fault if the price is alot higher than retail....and yea of course they wanna make some profit of it otherwise nobody will bother selling on ebay.

I plan to go for Winter 2009. It'll be my 2nd WF trip. What's HobbyFanatics btw? (excuse my ignorance) Really nice coincidence that you get to meet Tokyohunter and SaveRobotech. They're swell chums.

I dont' know why u guys are harping about the boring skyscraper. I was more elated that Domo-kun was in there.
-
Welll it does look chogokin grade, if that somewhat justifies the price....

TRIAL system gets activated...everyone with GN drives are screwed. And Graham will save the day with his Flag. Living the American Dream!

I thought that's from the Genius Party anthology of anime shorts featuring 7 renowned anime directors, Kawamori included. But apparently its not. Seems to be another thing called Ani*Kuri 15 which i have no idea about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genius_Party Here's the trailer for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1i9RMt60HM

Only problem with it is the V-fins. They are really fragile especially in the hinge area where it connects to enable you to fold it into the unicorn horn. I was really careful with mine but during my 2nd transformation it broke. A tad annoyed by it since i can't fix it with glue or cement. (yes i tried. The surface is too small to mend)
