  1. How hard was Harpoon to play? I mean granted, I'm a fan of Introversion games (DEFCON), so the reduced graphics is kind of cool in a way... but control-wise, is it a headache? And can anyone still point me to a demo, or is that illegal to ask here?
  2. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that all the ship minis come with their own little instruction booklet. Shows where all the little bits go (yes, there are sprues provided with colored bits... most of them antenna and bridge sections), how to assemble the base, and some information on the ship (in Japanese, presumably). That said, the Kurishuna (large ship above) is 1,159m long...
  3. Problem with playing games with them is the fact that most space battles (save two) take place between ships numbering in the thousands... not possible with ships really 1v1. After all even a spartanarian space fighter could take out an entire battleship in just a few shots... doesn't seem like LoGH ships are really designed to operate on their own- just parts of larger fleets. That said, I don't suppose there's anything stopping me from putting this in Battlefleet Gothic or that new star wars game. Not sure if the ships are on scale, but the boxes proclaim these models are 1/12000 (with the exception of the space fighters, understandably). So they may or may not be the same scale as the star destroyer from the new SW minis game. Another wish would be to be able to buy these individually... I wouldn't mind having an entire squadron of FPA cruisers. I already have my command squadron
  4. I knew Harpoon was based on a boardgame... and that coincidently the game-version of it appeared in the movie version of Hunt For Red October (seen when Ryan is identifying DALLAS, midway in the movie. Graphics look like HARPOON anyway). When I looked for a demo, I was redirected to the publisher's page but to a page that was, essentially, blank. Would I have to register for membership or something to have a playable demo? Harpoon III is the latest version released, and since I operate windows I'd have to try Advanced Naval Warfare. I'd just like to have a demo or something to try it out and see how it plays, but I haven't been able to find one. Same with FC, and in this case the available demo isn't compatable with XP since it's an older game (updates have fixed this, but not in the case of the demo.) Anyway, thanks in advance.
  5. I'd buy for several reasons: 1. Support Orguss. Since the ad claims this being a trial thing to see if there's interest, I want to show that I have interest for more Orguss products in the U.S. 2. The subtitles. Being able to watch Orguss without having to squint and slog through the dialouge would be much nicer, IMO. Plus there's that one last section on one of the DVDs that has only chinise subs on it. 3. The packageing. the bootleg box I have now, as nice as it is, is kinda sorta falling apart...
  6. ...For whatever it's worth, the minis finally came in. So I'll review them. As stated, they are miniatures in the very strictest sence. I've seen smaller only in navy displays... credits certainly to the sculpters who managed to pull this off. As this image shows, one can fit four FPA frigates on a single quarter: The nice thing about it is, despite their size, they're nicely detailed. The entire set is, as the other review linked here pointed out, appears to be made for conventions. One gets the big box and a number of smaller packages that don't disclose the contents- obviously a collector pack thing. Two variants of most of all the ships are included- in the most case, this seems to be for the benefit of the Imperial ships (since Imperial ships have two differing house logos). FPA ships differ, mostly, in decorations on the spartanarians. I can only assume that there are some differences between other ships in other packages, since apparently markings have changed during the course of the series. I only have two problems with them: 1. Warping. The FPA carriers (in fact, even the Impierial carriers and battleships) are warped to some degree. Am I wrong in assuming warm water and gentle bending can fix this? No chance to try that yet... 2. The small ships won't fit on the stands provided. The only ones that are able to, so far, are the Imperial destroyers (packaged together with the imperial cruisers). So for the meantime, my FPA frigates won't be 'flying'. Other than that I consider this set well worth the money I shelled out for it. I just wish the wait haddn't been so long...
  7. Saw FC bundled in a pack the other day with some other sub sims and thought "hey, this looks cool". I tried to snag a demo but to my dismay it doesn't appear to work on my XP comp. Then I found out about the Harpoon series, and other than recognizing the imagry from the Hunt for Red October movie, I thought it looked interesting, also. Tried finding a demo of Harpoon 3 only to run into a different problem: Nowhere to get it. So I was wondering if anyone has played these games and could let me know how they fare? I've seen reviews on both sides giving FC, at least, praise and boos... but I'd like to know what folks here think. And if it doesn't violate any rules, where can I get some playable demos to try before buying?
  8. This is awesome! Doesn't say anything about english dubs... not a problem, since I'm mostly a sub fan anyway...
  9. I wonder how...out there? We're allowed to get... I mean, do they want pure gundam-esque knockoffs or can we do crazy things like Makoto Kobayashi?
  10. Coudln't they just stop at Galactica? Or are we 'reimagining' old shows now?
  11. Well apparently the MP Evas come in two sets: One with wings, and one with the sword. I wonder which would sell more... And it looks like they've announced the F-type Eva for Revoltech! I wonder if they'll do the other Evas in F-type equipment... I've seen figs of them (0-2), so I wonder if it'll happen. Oh, and you guys have probably already seen them, but pics are up at HLJ at least.
  12. if this breaks the laws of necromancy, I beg for a thousand pardons. Well, finished the series up to as far as it's been translated..... (spoilers) Real sorry to see Yang get it... though appropreate that, like history, we never find the identity of the assasin. Just like JFK, MLK, and many other prominent figures I suppose. Still, in his passing it seems that Julian has taken up the mantle fairly well and I'm pleased to see the FPA fleet hasn't vanished entirely. Still, kind of touching to see Reutal die after holding out so long for Wolfgang to show. Nothing much was said about Wolf's reaction to the baby and Reutal's last words... though I don't doubt they were touched on in the books. What I don't understand was why the Kaiser's sense didn't prevail over his head and he felt he needed to go to conflict with one of his best generals. Maybe it's because of the earlier challenge or something, but still- Reutal was one of the best men he had... (end spoilers) Oh yeah, and for everyone's surprise- anyone see the Trek Photon torpedoes fly by in episode 97? Probably an even bigger surprise than the nose-mounted beam gun that suddenly popped up a while back.
  13. Had a friend introduce this to me through fansubs way back when. The premise is interesting- got me interested in seeing the next season when it's eventually released. Wouldn't mind reading the lite novels also if they eventually were translated.
  14. Having turrets on the enterprise somehow inspires a steampunk-like design for the classic ship. Otherwise, thumbs down for this design. Not only is it ugly (Repulsive cuts in the saucer section), but isn't there some law against messing with matt Jeffrey's design? After all, Rodenberry approved the origional version because it didn't have external piping or rocket engines that were so prevelant of the time.
  15. I'd say yes, it does. For a while somewhere the animation took a nosedive... looked almost as if animefrined did it. Might have been because I was wathing it in the deep AM or something, but thankfully the quality picked up again to deliver one of the best space battles I've ever seen- spanning two eps even. Still having the problem of earlier episodes downloading slower than later ones. Frustrating, but interesting all the same...
  16. Well, just passed ep 76. I have the feeling the series is winding down to a close now, what with the universe mostly in the kaiser's hands... Although I have to say, the animation at the last battle of the FPA was spectactular- probably the best in the entire series. And to fuel my fandom I put in an order at HLJ for one of the battleship kits... it's on preorder now, but I have the feeling that it might be better just to cancel and try buying one of the in-stock kits..
  17. Sure Reinhard's move was stupid, but the FPA admiral was even stupider not to fire when the enemy was 1, closer in range and 2, with broadsides. It's easier to hit a target that way. I'm surprised the admiral didn't even order potshots from extreme range. It seems one moteif of the story, though, is that the leadership is incompitent. I'm reminded of Sun Tzu's lessons while I watch this- it seems a lot of lessons are illustrated here (For example, letting an enemy prisoner go to sow discord in his own side's ranks). Anyways, it just strikes me that every new leader we see is a moron, starting with Fork. And on that guy, they didn't even explain how a leiutenant was permitted to draw up the battle plans. He's just some nobody they pulled out of a closet- they didn't explain if he had a higherup somewhere that promoted his plan. It was just like "We have this ensign who speaks the loudest." I know the FPA admiralty doesn't like Yang, but come on- someone has to have more sense than just "We beat the enemy...what supply situation?" And what's with introducing characters we never see again? I see names popping up under half the people that are just there for one scene and then dissapear. Many of the subbordinates and underlings of leaders suffer from this problem. But seeing as I know only half the names of the cast... And I'm torn between getting something LoGH- resin kit or fleet box. If I get a resin Kit, I could custom paint it... seems cheaper too, and the models aren't that hard to build.
  18. Up to ep 24 in the series- also watched the first movie (Since it takes place just before the series). I'm a little miffed that HlJ isn't carrying the Ban-goo ship model (higher size), that's probably one of my favorite designs out of the entire series. All the FPA ships are just awesome (not to say the entire lineup of ships isn't.) There are some questions that popped into my head while watching though. For one, am I alone in thinking the general military is wholy incompitent? For example, in the movie Reinheart wheeled his entire formation right in front of the enemy, and the FPA admiral is like "It must be a trap!" It's not limited to the FPA, but Fork is another example on the FPA side. How did this guy's invasion plans get approved when he's obviously some nobody with no standing? The FPA lost nearly it's entire battlefleet because of this guy who obviously has medical problems. Eh.... I also want to know how Reinheart got his own personal cruiser from the get-go. More favoritism from the emperor? And Yang's stunt in the movie was just brilliant- but nobody saw that little cruiser comming?
  19. Full thrust doesn't strike me as being capable enough of representing something on this scale. You'd still have to track every individual ship- not possible on boardgames, and taxing for computer games. I suppose a Homeworld Mod might solve this problem, but it would mean turning frigates into corvettes and deleting fighters while squadroning everything. Even then, when you approach numbers comperable to LoGH's ep 1-2, I at least will be encountering significant lagging. Would be nice if they did port over LoGH and broadcasted it somewhere to show the U.S. Market how real space operas are done. Mondamoto's post is actually quite informative- apparently boxes come with 24 or so figures. Not bad, considering the quality of the ships in the box (Some seem to be bent, but it's not a majority). Apparently 60$ a pop... might consider getting one come payday. That is, if I'm not convinced on getting Eva 02/04.... Or even one of the bigger resin kits. They don't look that expensive... problem is HLJ doesn't seem to carry any of the Free Planets Alliance ships. Most of the ones that are left are Imperial ones that are probably leftovers from everyone else ordering the cool kits. Meh.
  20. Well if it does get liscened one of these days, I can only wonder what the stateside reaction would be. Has interest in the U.S. Ever influenced the decisions made in Japan for these kinds of things? Would LoGH imports increase because of interest? I mean, a 90+ episode OVA isn't something to shake a stick at... And now that I'm downloading torrents by pairs, I'm finding it amusing and frustrating to see the later episodes downloading faster than the earlier ones...which means I have to wait longer before picking up where I left off... *shrugs* I'm liking this so far...
  21. I'm a fan of the ships in general, actually, especially the FPA ones. And after seeing the battle sequences for this anime, I can't help but feel dissapointed I can't replicate them in any game I own... Homeworld doesn't come near the scale of space combat LoGH performs... Now dl eps 13-20. What's the likelyhood of this ever seeing stateside? How often are 90s anime ported over nowadays? And I wonder, any news of more? Supposetly the manga's still in continuation...
  22. Yeah, but aren't there supposed to be like 10-12 per box? FYI, my torrents are comming from Central Anime. Looks like they're only up to 94 eps... or is that the total? And where can the movies be found?
  23. So can anyone tell me about how good the figs are? How long are they, are they really fragile, how expensive can they get, et. all? Downloading 5-12 as we speak. Hopefully won't be dissapointed.
  24. That's because they're placed under their 'Fake" german name of Heldensagen vom Kosmosinesef http://www.hlj.com/hljlist2/?Dis=2&Mac...mp;SeriesID=722
  25. Since I wanted to comment about this series, I thought it was safer to start a new topic, rather than bring up the old one (oct 06), and get necromancy calls thrown my way. I've just finished eps 1-4 and am torrenting the next set. All I can say is...well...wow. I've had my eyes on the ships from hlj for a while and decided to see what all the fuss was about. From what I can gather, it doesn't appear as if it'll dissapoint. One question I wanted to ask was how hard it was to get the ships on Hlj. How much money can one expect to shell out for a pack of ships? Anyone have quality control issues with them, also? And lastly, anyone thought of a game system to play with them?
