I'll be spoiler-free in this.
It was OK. I think the number of bad Star Wars shows has definitely tempered expectations quite a bit. Entertaining, but after a while some things start to wear out their welcome. The naivety of the children started to annoy me before the halfway point (yes I understand they are children...🙄and the target audience are kids) and started to drown out the show. At the same time, the stereotypical characters, the daydreamer Wim, the tough acting Fern, the know-it-all KB, and the 3rd wheel Neel; they were all getting annoying after a while. Jod's backstory...are we going to see more of these types of characters when we want to add Jedi into the mix?
The ending felt lacking. Like...that's it? Are we expecting a Season 2 to explain what happens or we're just stopping right there?
Overall: C+. 78pts.

Doing research into pre-built or custom PCs and it's more pricey and less custom than I'm used to when it comes to building my own PCs in the past, ugh. So now I'm looking at building a PC sometime around Memorial Day weekend hoping there will be good PC parts deals by then.
I mentioned lack of time and space before so I'm thinking I'll take a week off from work and build the PC... at my office, lol. Most of my colleagues work from home (myself included) and hardly anybody goes into the office so that gives me plenty of space and peace to build a PC. Funny enough I built my last PC in my office in 2018, upgrade in 2019, when we all used to go in regularly and no one mind back then too.
One thing I plan to skip on this time around is RBG crap. It's the most useless thing ever when it comes to PC gaming.
The best thing to do is setup a profile on PCPartPicker and set price alerts. I doubt all deals will appear all during Memorial Day so you might want to start piecing it together as deals come out.

However, it lends strength to 16 gigs just not being enough especially if you want the best textures and highest refresh rate.
Game developers have been complaining for a while about the limited VRAM.

i guess 12gb is okay.
It's debatable. It's better than 8GB but considering AMD released the RX 7800XT (which is the closest price point card), a card released back in 2023, with 16GB, it feels like Nvidia is still under-loading their mid-range and lower cards. Even Intel's new B580, a budget card with respectable performance, comes with 12GB. That's why a few of us here are eyeing the 5070Ti since it feels like the lowest option that doesn't feel like Nvidia is spitting in our face.

- 750W PS
- Corsair 4000D case
- 1440p 144hz monitor.
You could do a 5070 or 5070Ti, but you might be pushing the PSU. Upgrading the PSU will give you more headroom for a better GPU.
The 12600k could be stepped up to 13 or 14th gen but check your motherboard manufacturer for CPU support. However, given 13th and 14th gen's issues, you could probably keep the 12600k.The rest of the specs are still good and could probably last you another couple more years. For more storage, I would just wait for a good 4TB or a second 2TB NVMe drive to go on sale. -

Man, I hate computer hardware.
So like, I currently have a 3070 and a 750w PSU in a case that fits up to 340mm cards. whats the most I can upgrade to without having to build a new PC?
Specs?

I am looking at buying a new gaming PC with possibly a RTX 5080 this year to replace my 5 year old gaming PC with RTX2060. However I'm also dreading it, lol. Because of price of new PC with new 4K monitor and I'll also be replacing my old messy desk too. Plus more work in handing down my old gaming PC to my daughter and have to "clean" it up physically and digitally, lol.
I won't build a new PC this time because of lack of time time and build space. It can take me days to get a gaming PC just right and can be stressful for me making sure everything works right and tweaking it too.
Any specific SI vendor you want to go with? Unfortunately we don't have time tables on when specific vendors will start selling 5080s with their systems.

Consumer-level raw rasterization? Sure we're hitting with the current designs. There is some Nvidia hardware that could do it today, but those are for datacenter and AI.

It's been hinted at but here's the official announcement coming out of CES 2025:
Now the question is, who will make the best SteamDeck.

Also, apparently EVs are still a thing at CES and Sony is stupid af expecting people to pay $90K to $110K for their EV when you can buy a LUCID Air for less.
EVs are a consumer electronic device and it is the Consumer Electronics Show. And Tesla is selling their Cybertruck's highest tier for 90k. 🤷♂️

It's now a race to the bottom to see who can deliver the lowest price to features now.
We do have the Automotive thread if you want more in-depth discussions about cars.
52 minutes ago, kajnrig said:About the only thing interesting about Nvidia's announcement is the pricing on the lower end, and that's only if their claims match reality... which they almost certainly don't.
The first thing people noticed was the "*" on Nvidia's slides (and I made note of it ☝️ as well). Which means we have to wait till we can see rasterization performance. Interpolated frames from DLSS with MFG is skewing Nvidia's numbers, badly. 😒

Which is unfortunate since we are inching more toward 4k displays. 1440p is now that sweet spot for Esports. In a few more years, 4k will take over. A bunch of vendors are showing off that new QD-OLED 27" 4k 240Hz panel this week at the sub-$1000 price point. I doubt we'll see too many takers on the 5090 or the 5080, unless you have a minimum 1200W PSU and money causing a severe meltdown in your pocket. The only reason the 5070Ti is on my radar is because the 16GB vs the 5070’s 12GB. Intel is putting 12GB on a budget card.

They did announce the expected Z2 series for handheld PCs, and... it's kind of underwhelming. Like, yeah, it's definitely better than the Z1, but in a very evolutionary not revolutionary way; it sounds like the non-extreme Z2 is roughly on par with the Z1 Extreme.
That's because the non-Z2 Extreme chips are, essentially, higher end Z1 Extreme chips.

Nvidia's presentation, unfortunately, was rife with "*", Oh and AI. And more AI. And more AI. Generated by AI. And with their high performance numbers masked under DLDSS 4 multi-frame gen, it's hard to gauge how much real performance this generation will actually deliver (3rd party reviews will no doubt nitpick this fact).
The issue I have with the 5070 vs the 5070Ti is the RAM. 12GB (5070) vs 16GB(5070Ti). Seeing how Intel just put out a budget card with 16GB of VRAM, 12GB on the 5070 feels like a slap in the face (or on par for Nvidia).
edit: Oh and the 5090 power requirement is at 575W...close enough to 600W. 🤦♂️ yep...inching ever closer to needing that nuclear reactor... And getting too close for comfort on that young 12VHPWR spec. That spec is only rated for 600W. 575W does not leave much wiggle room.

It's CES-time. I'm already seeing some TV, server and other new product videos from the show floor. Not much expected from Intel (seeing as Gelsinger met early retirement). AMD is expected to debut the RX 9070XT. Nvidia is expected to debut the RTX 5000-series (and the fact that the RTX 5090 is inching ever closer to needing that nuclear reactor to power).

I thought Netflix was up to $22ish now
The $22.99/mo tier is the highest tier (4k, 6 device streaming). I was looking at the base, ad-free tier.
3 hours ago, TangledThorns said:You can find streaming deals here and there.
Yes. But I didn't include those since as I was looking at (as close to) non-bundled pricing to make it fair.

$15 seems like a bargain now compared to the current price of Netflix
Just for comparison, let's do the math on base ad-free tiers (in USD):
Max: $16.99/mo
Peacock: $13.99/mo
Hulu: $18.99/mo
Netflix: $15.49/mo
Disney+: $19.99/mo (includes Hulu, select ads only on live and linear content)
Apple TV: $9.99/mo (ads served only on non-Apple TV shows, regardless of tier)
Paramount+: $12.99/mo (ads only on live TV)
Amazon Prime Video: $11.98/mo, no Amazon Prime ($17.98/mo with Amazon Prime membership, or +$2.99 with existing Amazon Prime subscription)
Average price: $15.05/mo
$15 just isn't a bargain now, it's your base price for streaming (if you want no ads) these days. -

... makes it seem like one is somwhere on the tail, but icant see where that would be based on the toys/models i have.
A toy/model will never show the level of detail due to scale. There are cameras, sensors, access panels, etc. on a to-scale aircraft that a toy/model at 1/100 of the size could never show you because that level of minutia is impossible to replicate at that size.

My concerns, though, are the specs. Snapdragon 685, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage isn't much these days. But it does have a 90hz 1850x1280 display, Widevine L1 support, and a microSD card slot, and it's only $130. Considering I'm not interested in gaming on it, just couch surfing, reading comic books, and maybe some light streaming video it might be adequate.
Snapdragon 685...4...5 year old SOC. 4GB RAM...unfortunately that's very anemic in 2025. It will work for your use case, but I don't expect too many updates to float your way for too much longer.

Will it drop under $100 before it sells out?
I remember how much we paid for the AnimEigo SDF Macross set on release, only to see it plummet in price later on.
Maybe this time in 2025. Now?

The timing here is eerie. I don't know that you specified a price range, but the ones covered here are all $350 or less. Comments have some recc's as well. Navigating the tablet market is like walking through a minefield, I don't envy you.
Yeah I saw that pop up in my feed this morning and

... but like Linus says, it's a bit of a mess.
Android tablets are a minefield if you don't know what you're looking for and even when you do know, it's all over the place.
3 hours ago, mikeszekely said:(but can you drag and drop files from PC to iPads yet? It's been so long since I used an iPad you still had to manage them through iTunes)
With iCloud. Or the Apple Devices app. As I found out the hard way when migrating to Windows 11, iTunes on Windows 11 is kind of a mess. It still "works" but thanks to MS (and Apple essentially stopping development), it's not as usable anymore. The easiest way to transfer files is using a NAS/file share or a good olde USB-C stick.

I'd probably stick to the 8"<screen size>11" range if it's just a supplemental device. Going to a Best Buy or Microcenter to look at them in-person might be worth it to feel it in your hands. Maybe the Galaxy A9 Tab?

And on that note... does anyone hear have much experience with Android tablets? What I want out of life would be as close to the 10th-gen iPad as possible in terms of dimensions and materials, just running Android instead of iOS. Seems like a lot of what's out there that has the nicer builds like the OnePlus Pad and the Galaxy Tab S10 are larger, like the iPad Pro, or else they're made out of cheaper materials. Maybe a Pixel Tab? I'm open to suggestions.
Sorry. iPad user.
That being said, The Galaxy Tab S10 seems too big (14"/12"). I've handled the larger iPads and always came back to the 11" form factor. That size, for me, balances the screen size with weight without feeling over bulky. So maybe the Galaxy Tab S9? Or the Pixel Tab. I don't treat my iPad as a laptop replacement. It's a consumption device that I do some work on. So I guess it defining your use case will define if you want to get a larger or smaller screen. Is it a laptop replacement or a supplemental device? -

Yeah, we kinda got wiff of that reasoning back in July/August when they announced the cancellation. It really costed twice the amount The Mandolorian costed per episode and didn't garner as much ROI.
