5070 super family is "too far away, and will be too scarce and too expensive at launch". Plus, even a 5060 is going to "outperform the rest of my PC"----my new plan is "get a 5060 right now to tide me over, wait until the 5070 Super Ti is readily available in a pre-build, then buy a whole new PC". (assuming the current trend of "it's cheaper to buy a pre-built then make it yourself" holds true). My case is so old that it'd be a poor decision to re-use. The PSU is probably the only thing I could re-use in a new build, so buying EVERYTHING individually would be a lot more than a pre-build likely would.
If you are going with the 5060/Ti, get a 16GB version. The PSU is a toss up to upgrade now or later. The newer PSUs are going to be coming with over-current protection specifically on the stupid 12Vx6 so you'll probably want to wait for those. Since you are eying the 5060/5070s, you won't have to deal with melting pins, but Nvidia is in their "let's pump MORE POWAA"-to-the-GPUs-phase so down the road, it could be an issue. Regarding supply, I wouldn’t keep hoping Nvidia normalizes their supply, even when the Supers come out. It’s pretty evident they do not care for consumer gaming GPUs with most of their wafer allocation being devoted to data center GPUs.

The absence of Macross 7 in the announcement is disappointing, as well. Also, unless the sets for Frontier & Delta are mostly completed, then nothing is ever "coming soon" from Anime Limited.
I suppose it's nice we're still getting physical releases, unlike other series that may be well be lost to the realm of streaming, but I still can't get excited by this news.
Frontier and Delta, being the newer of the set, have better ROI than 7. Older shows get lower priority because of higher ROI, needs more time to remaster for Blu-ray, are less popular than their later cousins, etc./all the above.

Maybe it's a blessing-in-disguise that I have less time to go to theaters these days.

Well, with the super 5070 and super 5070 ti news, I think I'll wait and see---they seem like they may be worth the wait+price.
The leaked specs for the 5070Ti Super seem to point to it being more of a RAM upgrade and 50W more TGP than the 5070TI. The CUDA core count is the same for the 5070Ti Super and 5080 Super. Both 5070Ti Super and 5080 Super are still based on GB203. Perhaps this fixes the missing-ROPS issue. The 5070 Super appears to be the only one getting more CUDA cores along with the VRAM spec bump. 🤷♂️

Just some observations...
SpoilerTo get all sci-fi...
So this alternate OYW Lalah is basically trying to alter a fixed point (Char dies by a Gundam) and every time she tries to alter things, the universe fights back. And even having Char successfully steal the Gundam and surviving, eventually results in him rejecting alternate OYW Lalah. 🤨 And it looks like the only way Char survives is to make him give up his quest for revenge.
GQ Lalah doesn't pilot Elmeth nor join Zeon in this universe as a result of Char piloting the Gundam. Eventually they will meet and neither dies.
Kycilia Zabi always dies by Char's rocket to the face. Guess that's a fixed event. 👍

5060 ti's seem to be in stock fairly regularly, tempted...
What are the pros and cons of "short wide card with 2 fans" vs "long skinny card with 3 fans", if any?
I do like quiet, so if one style has a more "pleasant" sound than the other...Both MSI and Asus have annoyed me lately to varying degrees, thinking Gigabyte or maybe even PNY?
Seeing that you're eyeing the 5060 Ti, it could survive on the dual-fan cooler. The performance isn't great enough that it requires a 3-fan cooler. And seeing that xx60-series cards normally get the low profile/SFF-treatment, you could go either route. It really just depends on the manufacturer. I'd look at how much airflow your case gets and make the judgement call. More airflow, more cooling you could direct at the GPU so you could step up the a 3-fan GPU design.

Key phrasing there is "...found TWO YEARS of Jedha working group printouts in your files", not that she was given access 2 years prior to Krennic questioning her. She was probably added to the distribution list (mind you, the WRONG distribution list) when she was assigned to the Ghorman mining-project 4 years prior. But like Krennic said, she's a hoarder. She probably has collected documents outside of her jurisdiction on all sorts of projects and intel. i.e. She knows something about everything, but not everything about some thing in particular.

But it's still Windows, even if stripped down. The Xbox app is running on top of this stripped down Windows and allows you to import games from other storefronts (Steam, Battle.net, Epic, etc as well as serve as a Xbox Cloud device). Microsoft is trying to make this a one-stop-shop-handheld. And that admirable but we'll have to see how well it does it in practice.

Newer homes may be wired for Ethernet or... you can buy a hybrid mesh that uses Powerline which is what I use and works great in my house.

I use Powerline. It works. But it's not a replacement for structured ethernet. (Yes, there's also MOCA. Not available.)

1. WiFi home mesh
I wouldn't call this connected tech. Infrastructure more like it. Home mesh systems are increasingly entering the realm of necessity for most homes (not apartments & condos). Home networks running 6Ghz wi-fi definitely need a mesh system to get the best coverage. Extra 2 repeaters or APs are kinda needed if you want proper 5 or 6Ghz coverage. Also unfortunate as well is that there are still many homes without structured data wiring.

Okay, my apologies then. I thought the plethora of them were doing this and not just Tesla. Apparently, given the info you gave me just now, we can tell where the "flow of the BS" is coming from.
Unfortunately, "AI" has become a buzzword. Just like "blockchain", "the cloud", and so many more words before it. There's a commercial out there about a data analytics software where they threw out "We use AI to blah blah your data blah blah...". No, you're just using ChatGPT to perform data analysis instead of paying 75-90k for a flesh body running Tableau.
Sure, we may see AGI, in some stupidly basic form, in our lifetime. But it will need every node in a 800,000+ sq ft data center, powered by a small nuclear reactor to accomplish that. 'Would makes for a good headline, but completely impractical.

So basically, what the companies were showing us with "self driving cars" is mostly just smoke and mirrors to impress the public into thinking they're more advanced then they are, right? I would also assume it's to garner more investors and money from the government for research and development, but you know more than I do since you work in the field.
More like taking advantage of people's lack of understanding. There isn't a terrible amount of "learning" or "intelligence" in self-driving cars.
You drive? Driving is based of the assumption that you follow the rules of the road, speed limits, right of way, etc. Those are all rules and you are an agent acting in that system of rules assuming everyone else also follows those rules. When you change lanes, you follow a set of actions based on those rules. Is the lane you are changing into directly clear? If yes, you adjust the wheels so that you start moving into the next lane until you reach the desired lane. If the lane next to you is not clear, you either speed up or slow down until the space next to you is clear and then you move into the next lane. This is essentially a decision tree. All of the sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar, etc) in self-driving cars are constantly measuring speed of itself and everyone around you, tracking distance to and from cars around you, tracking foreign objects on the road (like people in the crosswalk, etc. all feeding into the car's onboard computer. Guess what your eyes, ears and brain are doing? Same thing. Your eyes see depth and can track objects. You are constantly scanning the road in front of and ahead of you. You use mirrors to track objects around you. All of this information is relayed to your brain, i.e. the computer, and calculates the relative distance to objects around you. You look at the speedometer to get your speed. If the cars around you stay at the same distance from you according to your speed, that means they are going at the same speed. Using all this information, you make decisions on how you drive according to what's happening around you. Self-driving cars are doing the exact same thing. Some do it relatively well. Some do it very poorly.

Haven't finished the season but just some background info to this season's ending...
SpoilerBesides Ncuti Gatwa messing up his knee, I guess you can blame Disney for Ncuti Gatwa leaving. 🤷♂️ Disney stalled on renewing the licensing from the BBC. Since BBC didn't know what Disney was going to do, they couldn't guarantee renewing the show for another season. With that delay, Ncuti already booked his next gigs and couldn't wait for BBC to figure this out. Understandable. I'd be pissed too if my job is in limbo and my only choice would be wait around a year and change, hoping or go get another job. So he decided to part ways. This led to rewrites and reshoots of the ending. I did hear a while back that Season 3 would have had Millie Gibson and Varada Sethu both coming back as Season 3 companions. But guess that won't happen. If or when another season comes, we don't know when that will happen.
RTD will probably get some blame since he's showrunner and the show did not bring in ratings as they hoped. And so here we are...

2.5" drives aren't really dead. At least not the form factor, in the data center. It's just that we've hit the 6-Gbit/s bandwidth limit on SATA and with M.2 far outpacing that bandwidth (cuz it uses PCIE), there's no headroom left in the SATA protocol. Even SAS (SATA's datacenter cousin) can't keep up topping out at 22.5-Gbit/s. The 2.5" format are still used in NASs/SANs cuz as that format is easy to work with in large scale (the drive is a 2.5" drive but runs on the M.2 protocol/PCI-E bus, see Kioxia's CD-series datacenter drives). Once nice thing about old SATA 2.5" SSDs is that they don't suffer from heat issues like NVMe drives cuz the bandwidth limit is lower, generating less SSD controller heat vs NVMe.

I didn't know about this background info. I'm not generally conspiracy-minded, but I find it very hard to believe that the US government isn't working on this exact type of subversive AI technology.
We're not saying they aren't. But the scale of which to achieve AGI into the package of a credit card-size SOC will not be achieved in our lifetime. The AI in our world today is nowhere near Hollywood AI. Very far from it. The computer currently in robotaxis are scaled down server hardware; just enough to run the necessary applications and process the sensor data in realtime without consuming a ridiculous amount of power. The rest gets offloaded to the cloud.
1 hour ago, Big s said:It only took a few years to go from a computer the size of a room to be outshined by a personal computer and for that to be outshined by the smartphone. Depending on the necessity, technology moves fairly quickly and world conflicts supported by super powers tend to move technology faster than most catalysts
Actually, it took a couple of decades. It moves fast, but not THAT fast. Economy of scale also plays into this. And unfortunately, we're going right back to room-sized computers (computer clusters that is) because personal computers do not have the computing horsepower to process models at a level to make it economical nor do most homes have the electrical power to keep it running. AI model processing is a power consuming task and that been a major hurdle keeping it in datacenters. LLMs that run on our PCs usually run on smaller data sets and require more time to process that data versus a cluster in a data center processing large datasets at record pace.

Like I said, the SSD controller chip on the drive is the likely culprit. The actual NAND memory chips, where you data is actually stored, were likely fine.
M.2s are no more reliable than SATAs. If you strip the casing off a SATA, you are literally left with something similar to a M.2 drive. If you don't want to risk Samsung, get a Crucial/Micron. I rarely see reports of firmware issues with Crucial drives vs Samsungs (the 990 Pro units had a big stink about firmware issues last year or 2 ago).
The bigger issue is M.2 drives get hotter as you move to newer generation drives. If your motherboard doesn't have a heatsink plate for M.2 drives, you should consider either buying a drive with a heatsink already installed or buying a 3rd party heatsink. I wouldn't bother with Gen 5 drives since they're expensive and nothing can really take advantage of the speed those models offer. A Gen 3 or Gen 4 M.2 drive are more than enough for most people's needs.
If you need more M.2 slots, try an expansion card.
AM5 CPUs only support DDR5 RAM. AM4 is the last socket to support DDR4.

Tried clonezilla's rescue function ----after 1.5 hours, it had done 0.82% and said 112 hours to go, with almost nothing recovered, so quit. Will look into DD rescue tomorrow.
Ironically, I switched my main storage from HDD to SSD because it was getting old and I feared it failing. And here the SSD dies in like 2.5 years with no warning, and the old HDD seems fine... (just missing the last 2 years of files...
DD_rescue may not move any faster if there’s something wrong with the SSD controller. You lost the draw of the silicon lottery 🤷🏻♂️. Not much you can do. I’ve seen SSDs go for almost a decade and others die after 2 years of only minor usage. It’s why I got a NAS.

It's a take on Supergirl that hasn't been done. The movie, CW-series, and Smallville had a Supergirl who was more sure of herself. If this is based off the comic from Tom King,
https://www.dc.com/comics/supergirl-woman-of-tomorrow-2021/supergirl-woman-of-tomorrow-1
Then this ☝️ is the direction they are going with for this movie.
