    The supply constraints are likely the case, given TSMC's current fab-to-supply issues. From what I hear, the chips are being scooped up as soon as they come off the fab. Basically everything being manufactured is already allocated to manufacturers. There's no leftovers being produced.

    Unfortunately Delta’s flight trainer, Messer, disagreed with that assessment. A person can be book-smart but lack that spark of improvisation and imagination that brings them up a level. That’s where Mirage is.

    Only 6 episodes. A second season is possible. She-Hulk is currently filming, slated for early 2022. Hawkeye is currently in post and will premiere in late 2021. The next series will be What If..., followed by Ms. Marvel, then Hawkeye.

    Likely a pass. New stand? Woohoo. Bigger OLED? OK. I think mini/micro LED would be better but OK. Same SOC line? 👎 Feels like a spec-bumb upgrade.

    You can use CrystalDiskInfo to check on your SSD's health. Now if you think the SSD was affected by your power issues, then maybe you should consider getting a new one.

    If people run discrete GPUs, then a iGPU is taking space on the CPU die which could be used for other things. Given the current shortages and price gouging, AMD is finally realizing selling a "modern" Zen 3 on-die GPU-CPU might actually be beneficial to them since this shortage is probably is going to last into 2022. And while Vega graphics are workable-1080p-gaming-graphics, it's better than no GPU at all. Still better than Intel's not-worth-gaming-iGPU. Speaking of moving taskbars, I see another person with the taskbar off the bottom of the screen. Now that MS is taking that ability away, I'm noticing more people with taskbars being placed somewhere other than the bottom now.

    Mechanical drives don't make much sense now until you hit the larger capacities (>1 TB. 2TB SSDs are fine if you find them on sale, otherwise, borderline questionable worth). My only worry about the larger SSDs is when they mysteriously die. When SSDs die, they die. HDDs usually suffer a slow death and are normally easier to recover than a SSD if it comes to that (You can use some tricks at home on HDDs to recover data. SSDs require soldering for starters.)

    I really don’t care about leaving the taskbar at the bottom only. I never moved my taskbar. Concerning the screen real estate issue for the taskbar, I’ve always been a advocate for the 16:10 aspect ratio. How anyone can work on a 1080p/16:9 aspect is perplexing (mainly laptop screens. Desktop can use 1440p or a 4k, negating the squished 1080p screen).

    It's worth noting those of you still using and holding onto those 600-series and 700-series cards, NVidia is cutting you off in the next few months. 900 and 1000-series cards also only have a couple of years of life support left. I'm sure they would end it sooner but you know...

    Re: Start menu. It's also stuck to the bottom of the screen too with the Task bar. I know a few people who will be annoyed.

    On top of this is the other news about Windows 11. Android apps on Windows. Via the Microsoft store. Via the Amazon App store. Running over Intel Bridge. Impressive but it's basically running Android apps over an application emulator layer(?) and you need both a MS app store and Amazon app store account. 🤦‍♂️ Teams integration. So, I see Skype was a dead end. While mileage may vary, my experience with Teams has been OK to Problem-prone. I've had more issues with Teams vs Zoom. Start menu: I see they're revisiting the whole touch-thing again. Did Windows 8 not teach 'em anything? Probably good for touch but my use-case for Windows will remain keyboard-&-mouse cursor for the foreseeable future. HDR-support: Meh. I care more for display scaling though. That's been a sore spot for Windows. TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirement: I feel a headache coming when people attempt to reinstall and those options are disabled in the BIOS (or lack the TPM 2.0 module).

    Unfortunately my upgrade to Ryzen got delayed last year due to the parts shortages and any hopes of re-using my 8th-gen i7 to replace my 4th-gen Intel WFH box are diminishing due to the lack of and reasonably priced parts. Even with parts coming back in stock, sourcing parts for older platforms really doesn't seem like a viable.

    I don't expect the stacked Zen 3 CPUs to be supported on the oldest chipsets (just like normal Zen 3 CPUs). If he's using an older chipset, he'll be SOL.

    Zen 4 is due in 2022 and will likely use the AM5 socket. With the 5600, you'll still get a few more years of life out of your current setup and should hold you over until the shortage issues normalize.

    Without knowing which leads are connected to which, it will be hard to know if the dead Grounds were used. Some PCBs do not make that clear until you screw if off. Unfortunately, you'll need an exact model to get a donor board from. PCBs can change between different lots of the same model (rare but possible, usually differs from one size's iteration to the next). It may be safer to go to a data recovery service to get them to recover the data.

    The Ryzen 5 3600 comes with the Wraith cooler which is actually a decent cooler (provided you won't be overclocking). Otherwise, ye olde CM Hyper 212 Evo is still the budget builder's cooling-on-a-dime-cooler.

    Considering it occurred with both PSUs, I wouldn’t consider the PSU as the cause of the short, but I would consider them both as e-waste now that there was a short. The burn marks on both devices are on the Ground pins next to the 3.3V pins. If you can scrape off the carbon from the contacts, you could be OK if all you’re doing is pulling data off. Though, I won’t trust it for long term use anymore. Unfortunately, your need for a new desktop could not have come at a more terrible time. Even last gen parts are hard to source at reasonable prices. Pre-built AMD Ryzen 3000-series based system or Intel 10-series based system may be the cheapest solution. “Couple of hundred” is going to be hard to do right now. If you have a laptop, that would be a better choice to hold you over until desktop parts come down to reasonable prices.

    You can try switching PSUs to see if that fixes the issue. If it does, do you have an Intel CPU? Use the iGPU until you get a beefier PSU. It could be something on the motherboard. Since you tried the CMOS battery, it could be an incorrectly seated battery or a bad battery. Maybe the video card or RAM got knocked loose? I’m leaning toward something on the motherboard is the culprit. Yes, that could mean any component connected to the motherboard, which doesn’t narrow things down.
