The computer and electronics super geek thread

Perhaps I should explain how hosts file work. Hosts files only manage web hosts (i.e. websites). They can be used to shortcut/alias certain addresses. It doesn't block anything. If I wanted my browser to immediately go to New York Times' website just by typing the letter "n" in my browser's URL bar, I would add the line into my hosts file: 199.239.136.200 n Now we "block" hosts by redirecting the site elsewhere. We point the host to 127.0.0.0 (localhost) or 0.0.0.0 (this address doesn't exist). So whenever a site tries to load material from that site, whenever it is called, it goes to a loopback or nonexistent address. Let's say I don't like material (either ads, scripts or whatever) from "example-crap.com", I would add this line to my hosts file: 127.0.0.0 example-crap.com So anytime "example-crap.com" is referenced, it is redirected, in essence, that site is "blocked". So if a certain site is hosting up crap, we can redirect the referenced host elsewhere. We can't block malware/viruses/trojans/etc but we can tell our browsers where to go so that we face less crap. -
It's actually a fan video from a Japanese fan made back in 2000?/early 2001 (at least according to my archive. Yes, I have the original). This fan did a few others but it's probably lost somewhere to the Interwebs.

Just to add, no virus program, adware/malware program, or security tools gets 100% of everything out there. Much of it requires you to be careful. Be sure that your anti-virus or anti-malware program is updated with the latest updates. Be sure to patch your OS. Be sure the programs you use are updated. Be sure your firewall is running and is only allowing what you want it to allow. Limit the number of processes/services running. Use blockers (ad and/or script blockers) available for some browsers. Use hosts files to block certain sites. And the list goes on.... These days, you can't just rely on security tools to keep you safe. The other part requires you to be mindful of your own actions. -
Probably should have mentioned that Shinsei Industries was the one to pass along the designs, not NUNS. After 2 of the 3 YF-24s broke down during testing, the NUN halted the project and moved forward with the VF-171 and AIF-7S Ghost. It was Shinsei Industries that picked up pieces and completed the work on the remaining prototype, hence, the YF-24 Evolution. Whether or not Earth picked up the YF-24 Evolution is a question that isn't answered.

So it's not even making it past POST as well (that period when you hit the power button till you see a Windows logo)? -
To the NUN, it is the YF-27. Galaxy worked on it without the NUN's knowledge so they treat it as a YF.

Bad memory? Run Memtest. Bad driver? -
Fixed. Also fixed. And that depends on who's building it. The only major breakthroughs for the YF-24 and YF-24 Evolution were Stage II thermonuclear engines, linear actuators, and ISC (a significant breakthrough for the latter). Since the plans for this design was passed to other fleets, we don't know what the others besides Frontier or Galaxy have come up with.

There was talk that someone did try to get the license for M7 more than 10 years ago but they would have run over-budget with just 4 episodes and decided to not pursue it. Who it was I'm not sure but the deal fell through due to costs anyways.

Shouldn't need to spoil it since the 1/100 kit is on sale, but....

Hence we use, "Reaction". It doesn't say what reacts, only that something reacts and goes boom.

Not really. It was a promo for the Gunpla Builders-series kits. But it was fun watching the models break apart.- 3998 replies

Other. It's simply just a bunch of VFs doing formation flying around on the screen. -

Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe

How about "Other". IIRC, the 3D VFX footage was just a concept promo for the 2000 Tokyo Character Show by GONZO. It never made it out of pre-production. When you say it is "expanded universe", it would mean it would have to expand on some topic from that universe. It doesn't do that because it was never made into an actual show. -

Macross Official Setting and the Expanded Universe
azrael replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
Design Works? IIRC, that's more of a production thing so it doesn't fall into "canon". It is more of a behind-the-scenes so if you want to know the designer's thoughts on the material, this would be what you want to look at. Ride? Not sure yet. 3D VFX? Since it never made it to production, I can't comment. Ace Frontier/Triangle Frontier/Ultimate Frontier? Other. You replay certain points from the entire series so that would rule out any "official setting". -

And just to add, anybody asking for cam-rips, subs, DVD/Blu-Ray release dates, or anything else before that information is released, should also expect an insta-ban. -
And we keep sayin', that would be an insult to Astro Plan. And that show is already an insult...

Also, Bruce Timm doesn't get into the finer aspects these days. 95% of his work since 2003/2004 is producer/executive producer, which doesn't have much creative pull.
