  1. 505th Airborne: Just curious as to the history of the paint schemes on the black/blue "321" valk, and the sweet looking VF-1A done in multi brown and black. Also, was the Tomahawk done in the Civil Defense white/orange a re-paint, or did it come stock? Pretty cool and good ideas if they're custom.
  2. Very seldom does a box arrive that the item inside is absolutely destroyed, even with all of the packaging and space added to help protect said item. Case in point. Sheryl came in a small-ish box from HLJ.com and looked like it had fallen off of the truck, slid 50ft, then got kicked all of the way to the door, and back. I'm just glad it wasn't something super valuable, like it normally is. So, pulling out the figure, the ribbon was broken off of the seperated head, the crop holster was snapped, and the base was cracked. It was an opportunity to work with PVC again. After removing the mantle and cape, there was a nasty block to be sanded and smoothed to shape her back between her shoulders. Her head was glued and blended back on, the holster was removed and filled, the base was glued, texture coated then sprayed Trim Black. The lines of her outfit were touched up and the ribbon hole filled. The crop was also modified because it too was broken. I'm not into Frontier, but I thought this model was pretty good looking...enough to get. Here's as she stands.

    Its Official!

Our mailman is Mr. Sano (Sano-san). He makes sure to come back for deliveries at the end of his route that are from Japan, if I haven't gotten home yet. I've purchased so many valks and other Macross/Mospeada/Dougram items through HLJ.com, that he said "Thank you, for single-handedly trying to help stabilize the Japanese economy after the tsunami" while grinning and nodding one day. In '86, I saw Robotech on TV and promptly bought the Revell Robotech Changer "Axoid" model. For Christmas, I received Jetfire. The next Summer, I collected all 85 Comico Robotech comics...it, hasn't, stopped, yet. Now, I buy at least two (or more) of everything...one to display, one to keep MISB, and one to "invest" when possible. There's over 200 VF-1's and at least 300 Macross kits...so far. "Once you're hooked, you're hosed."
  4. After looking at everyones displays and the cases, the comments about UV light damaging the plastic makes sense, and peoples solution of UV sheets on windows and keeping the collection in the dark limits damage, but I like to know if there have there been any tests done to see if LED lights do other kinds of damage to the items? Case in point. I'm looking at building birch plywood w/ cherry stained cabinets that have plex or glass shelves, with LEDs running vertically down each side of the front, facing rearward behind glass (think newer vending machines). The front glass will be the one-way smoked mirror glass that you can see through only when the lights are on, otherwise remains dark when off (security when the cableguy, or other "guests" are over that might not appreciate the collection). It would be an enclosed space that would confine the light wavelengths. Any thoughts???
  5. Macross Zero Tomcat build by chance? Signature from Info Society?
  6. "Where's Wald...err...Minmay?" OT: We have at least a couple more Rei figs in a box in storage...like the little 5"(?) purple yukata with fan fig, and the policewoman uniform handcuffed to a pole fig. "And now back to our regularly scheduled program after a word from our MBS sponsors."
  7. I lived in Colo Spgs as a kid when the Thunderbirds switched from F-4 Phantoms at the AFA graduation flyover, to the F-16 showing up at the the next Memorial Day Airshow. Also, going up Ute Pass and staying at Manitou Lake, A-7 (SLUFF's) and the occasional A-10 would do "knife edge" turns zipping up and down the pass. We lived just West of the flightpath to Pete Field and saw all kinds of military planes...including an SR-71 coming in at eye-level to land one day (once). We also got to see the Enterprise on the back of the 747 carrier in sixth grade. For a while, even the Concorde made regular runs into the Springs, because it was too loud for Stapleton Airport in Denver (pre-DIA). The last year I lived there, during the M-Day airshow, they had a F-117 sitting there with a rope around it with SP's standing guard, holding M-16s. Israeli F-16 "Sufa" Storm? I thought it meant "Such Ugly F-ing Additions." Nice job on the models. The top one almost looks like the 25th anniversary Valk paint scheme. EDIT: Forgot to add that the "Cobra Maneuver" makes more sense now that I read the story. When the F-16XL did it, NASA called it a "Vertical Translation." The guy got more for naming the plane than the gold dollar coin we get for a patent here at work.
  8. Dumb question here. When I was into airplanes the F-16 was called the Fighting Falcon...so...what makes it different to be called a Viper now? I'm assuming the role or upgrades made? When HLJ had the 1:72 Hasa valk kits on sale, I bought 5 of the super battroids, 5 of the "SJA" battroids, and 10 of the fighters to do the 5 (Roy/Hikaru/Max/Milia/Fodder) schemes in all three modes just like Erikos is doing now. Thanks for showing us. The proportions are pretty good, and I don't see many issues. Like everything else, just need the time.
  9. Just add the Valk to the list, please. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for the compliments... Umm...trying to remember back that far . I painted everything in solid colors per instructions using Testors Model Master enamel, then added the red over the base green. When dry, I took a brush dipped in black-tinted lacquer thinner, dabbed it onto a cloth, then did a "wash" over the red and it took the red paint off unevenly. Then to get the detail back, I used the RustAll black to get into the corners, dabbing the excess off. The surface ends up a little rough, but a light wetsanding and dullcote evens it all out.
  11. Santa definitely had some Macross loot in his suit this year. I think the fiancee had something to do with it as well...but I don't want to know what.
  12. The kit was started in '94, and I'm just now finishing it up. It's kinda fun going back through the boxes and digging out the old kits...some to rebuild, others just leave in the box. EDIT'd fur spellin'.
  13. It's no Thunderbird. That's for sure. Building the Israeli version? At least the A-10 was designed ugly in it's brutal simplicity (A-10 junkie here).
  14. Man, I'd love to see your workshop sometime! There's quite a bit of "awesomeness" going on with the different genre projects. We use the same medium to high density foam in the shop here at work. Freeman's "Renshape." Cool stuff...but EXPENSIVE! Are the 1:24 Valks still available (kit or built)?
  15. @KICKER: Is the grey/black 1:60 VF-1A on the shelf with the uniformed 1A and Officers 1J, a custom build from the unpainted assembly kits? I haven't seen that variant before. Just curious.
