  1. lolwut? Macross 7 was a smash hit. The companies that produced and financed Macross 7 don't give a poo if a handful of Americans bitch loudly about Basara; they're too busy swimming in giant pools of money made from the DVD and CD sales. Anyhow this episode was awesome; it made me RAGE SO HARD when the flight tech looked in the cockpit, followed by Ozuma's bleeding scene. But Michel's "Wouldn't it have been Dramatic if he died?" comment had me laughing myself into hiccups. Kawamori trolled us, successfully. Also, hearing Firebomber in this series is always a treat. It's interesting how Frontier has helped tie the disparate series' into a coherent knot for me; all it took was a little reference here, a nod there, and a song now and again.
  2. Then Macross will never be complete to you, because Kawamori is never gonna go there.
  3. You guys seem to be ignoring the fact that DYRL and TV designs are refered to interchangablily. In Macross 7 we see Milia flying in a TV style jumpsuit, while Basara was acting out Hikaru's role in a DYRL style suit. In Frontier we see a TV style Nosjadeul-Ger floating in an ancient battlefield, and in episode 12 the TV-style uniformed Zentradi were squaring off against dudes wearing the DYRL-style outfits. The simple fact of that matter is that 'movie in a movie' doesn't describe our DYRL, Kawamori simply stated that there was a movie called DYRL in the canon. He has even specifically started that the in-universe movie is different from the real world movie. Anyhow, SW1 is muddy water, and designs from both are used. As for 'leaving the fans behind', too bad. If Macross is going to only appeal to fans of the original and ignore the massive fanbase created by Plus, and Zero, and especially Macross 7 (the most popular installment in the series), how is it to remain a viable franchise? Every long running Franchise has had to walk this line, just look at Gundam. This is how franchises work, each new installment builds upon the others while creating a unique identity of it's won. Personally I think Frontier has been an excellent series in it's own right, with just enough Macross and Macross 7 moments to make it really feel like it belongs in the franchise. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who cheered when Michel and Ranka flew in with the speaker pods, or when the Queadllun Rau's made their first appearance. Those fans who simply want a rehash of the original series will never be happy no matter what Kawamori and crew does, they're the classic unpleasable fans who simply can't sit back and enjoy the ride; better to appeal to those of us with open minds while creating another generation of fans to carry the torch. ps. everyone seems to forget that the effeminate male trend started in SDF. Max was a novelty character in the original, he had a bishi appearance juxtaposed by his deep voice, womanizing, and genius piloting ability. Alto is a lot more obvious, but he certainly isn't the first pretty-boy.
  4. Bandai still has the Macross 7 license, from the looks of things the M7 Remaster box set is selling like hotcakes. They may use this as an opportunity to revisit the VF-19. Personally I'd love it if they did a 1/60 Fire Valkyrie in the same line as the VF-25.
  5. >>>Im just stating my opinion based on facts, and the fact is that I don't agree >>opinion based on fact, fact is that i don't agree >opinion = fact
  6. Uhh... the mkv container format is an open standard, and it is just as well supported on Windows as it is on Linux. The reason you're having problems is that VLC's h.264 playback is TERRIBLE, and it only has provisional support for SoftSubs. There are very few fansub groups who still use hardsubbed XviD avi's; and within the next couple years as more and more content moves to high-def, nobody will be using avi anymore. So rather than making accusatory comments directed at a group who is doing us a favor by releasing fansubs in HD, how about you fix the problem with your computer. Download CCCP and use Mediaplayer Classic, it works perfectly. If your computer is a Pentium 4 or earlier, and high definition h264 playback is choppy, buy a copy of the coreAVC codec.
  7. They're Cheyennes for sure, different weapons packages from what we saw in Zero, but definitely Cheyennes. Here are the civilian variants that are shown putting out fires and cleaning up bug-guts in episode 2.
  8. That album already has a backstory, it was produced by Lynn Kaifun on Macross 11 in the late 2040's.
  9. To be fair, Gundam 00 didn't really have any of the usual Gundam tropes, although it borrowed some superficial elements from Wing. I mean there are no newtypes, less melodrama, no conflict between spacenoids and earthnoids, and no Char Aznable clone, no space nazis or space aristocrats. All in all it's gone a completely different direction from any other Gundam show and hasn't adhered to any of the conventions usually followed by the franchise ... we'll see if that holds true in season 2, as it looks like Graham is now wearing a mask *groan* so there is a possibility that it'll turn into another re-hash. Seeing how craptacular Geass R2 is, I've got fingers crossed on both hands that 00 S2 isn't a piece of poo. But back on the topic of Macross Frontier being a rehash of the origina, TOTALLY. Oh hay remember that time when Hikaru was a pilot in a flight school on a colony ship? Or when he rebelled against his Kabuki upbringing by becoming a pilot, while never managing to shake his femininity? Remember that time when he raged like crazy and jacked a valkyrie from a dead pilot? Or when Kakizaki was flying around in an Elintseeker and was shy and bashful all the time? Remember that time when max was a sniper in a civilian military provider and was a total dick to everyone? Remember that time that Hikaru trained with queadllun raus in a 7000 year old zentradi battlefield, or when he visited a zentradi mall with minmay? Yeah neither do I.
  10. Good. Obviously you're not going to like it even if Kawamori comes to your house and rubs your back while watching it. In dumping it now, you can save us the incessant bitching of an impossible to please fan.

Better quality version. Ditto on that request for lineart of these flightsuits, they're pretty awesome.
  12. That 7km includes the dock, and the Battle 7; City 7 itself is only about 5km long. The Frontier is a monster by comparison.
  13. I wonder if it's a clamshell colony, or more similar to the diamond shaped ones shown in the first episode's 'story thus far' segment?
  14. There were a couple on Macross 7, Exedol being the most obvious; but I don't know if broccoli head counts as much more than a special case. In the episode where they shoot 'Minmay Story' there are a couple of full sized Zentradi who were dressed up as Bretai and Kamjin taking part in the filming. Again, this may have been a special case just for the film. However, the timeline does state that giants are banned from Earth as of 2030; how far into the colonies that extends is anyone's guess. It may be that only a few fleets allow them, or mabe it's just that the larger ships like the frontier islands are the only ones with the capacity for them? Every Zentradi under the age of 50 has been born naturally into human culture, so the integration problems that existed in the past probably aren't an issue.
  15. As much as I would love to see Basara show up, even in a minor cameo... I just don't see it happening. I don't think Basara could get within 5 lightyears of the fleet without completely stealing the show.
  16. SDF Macross -36 Episodes Macross 7 - 48 episodes, 3 encore episodes, 1 theatrical episode Macross Dynamite 7 - 4 episodes Macross Frontier - ?? episodes Macross Plus - 4 episodes, 1 movie Macross Zero - 5 episodes My statement stands, Macross Plus and Zero are the exception, not the rule.
  17. Did anyone else notice Basara's guitar in this episode?
  18. I couldn't see the most popular Macross character being killed off in such a manner. But a cameo, no matter how brief, would be awesome!
  19. I don't see it at all, none of the Frontier characters are anything like the SDF Macross characters. I mean if being a career military woman makes you a Misa, or being a squad leader makes you a Focker; then Lucy and Kinryu were just copies of SDF Macross characters as well. Perhaps in future sequels they can remove squad leaders and female officers completely as so not to draw comparison The only one where I can see the connection is Ranka, she's an aspiring singer who works in a Chinese restraunt which is an obvious homage to the original. However in every other respect she is far, far, from being Minmay and her role in the plot thus far would indicate that her character is going in a much different direction.
  20. Just out of curiosity, which characters do you see as copies? Aside from the colors of the valkyries they fly, I don't see any similarities to the cast of SDF Macross thus far.
  21. Gundam is really hit and miss, especially the Tomino stuff. The 3 movie version of MS Gundam as well as most of the UC OAV & Movies and a couple of notable AU's (Turn A, and 00) were really, really good. However the UC tv shows go from mediocre to terrible (Z > ZZ > V). All 3 of those shows were so incredibly drawn out and boring, they had one-dimensional characters, boring plots, boring factions and forced melodrama. Character deaths usually hit me hard, but in the UC TV shows I simply didn't care, because everyone was so completely interchangeable. Thats not to say they didn't have any redeeming factors. Z had Quattro, ZZ had Haman Karn, V had... well it sucked hard but the mobile suits were cool. It's like Tomino somehow fluked out when creating Char, Amuro, and Lalah; because was never able to create a compelling cast again (until he returned to the helm for Turn A). To put this in perspective, I just started watching Eureka 7, and there has been more character development, and plot movement in 4 episodes than in 40 episodes of Victory Gundam. No joke.
  22. I really like these designs; it's a shame they'll probably be forgotten. Does anyone have cleaned up lineart of the XA2? Or does anyone with photoshop skills feel up to the task?
  23. The Queadllun-Rau is known to have an inertia vectoring system, as does the YF-21. Perhaps that technology made it's way into the 25 as well?
