  1. What makes Alto emo? He's hot blooded, a daredevil/show off, loves flying, and hasn't backed down from a fight. In fact, he got punched out for demanding a Valkyrie during the second SMS sortie. Not emo at all.
  2. I really like Gattai's releases, they're clean clean clean. I checked out a couple others, and hardsubbed karaoke and/or lyric translations are going to be a problem when there is singing in the middle of a wicked battle (and you just know it's going to happen!). There are a lot of sites out there that are dedicated to anime lyrics, I just don't see the point in having them clutter up half the screen. Either way, I find myself downloading AiA and Gattai's releases. AiA for compatibility, Gattai for archive; and I cross reference any dodgy looking translations. Big ups to both groups.
  3. Make sure you have all post-processing disabled in your player of choice; will help playback big-time.
  4. Uhh... h.264 isn't garbage, whatever you're using for playback clearly is though. Not every problem Mac users face can be blamed on a 3rd party, so ditch the smugness and do some troubleshooting. VLC for Mac sucks at h.264 playback, and quicktime is a big hunk of fail. Give MPlayer a try, I forget which version I have on my Intel Macbook but it played Gattai's first episode with no problems, not sure about the second episode, because that computer generally lives in the trunk of my car when I'm not working. As an FYI it works BEAUTIFULLY on my ancient 4 year old Pentium 4 with a meager 1 gig of RAM, and a slow IDE hard disk. This is in both Linux (Mplayer) and Windows (Media Player Classic) by the way.
  5. I was thinking the same thing; Michel is a common name is Quebec, and is pronounced similarly to the English name 'Michelle'; which would lead me to believe that Not-Focker was pronouncing it correctly.
  6. Protip - Anime in Action and Infinite Zero just released a sub of the first episode. Can't post the link here, but check the usual spots and you'll find it right quick.
  7. Even in the most litigious of countries, people downloading and seeding fansubs don't ever have charges laid against them.
  8. Works just fine for me in VLC (my work computer is a mac)
  9. Tree view? What is this 1997? Counterintuitive and impossible to use. Whoops, meant to post in Feedback.
  10. Not only is she a fan, but artists on Rephlex Records (Aphex Twin's label) have done remixes of her work. Check out the Cowboy Bebop: Remixes for Freelance album, it features some of the brightest stars from the late 90's underground UK electronic and hip-hop scene.
  11. I just had a vision of Sally S. Ford as the captain of a ship in the frontier fleet, ordering a bridge full of young men; "Don't take your eyes off that monitor!"
  12. The [A-F_&_AF] set has better grammar, and no *facepalm* moments (like "Daisy Ivanov"), plus the typesetting is considerably better than the other ones.
  13. Correction: Not many people in America liked Macross 7; it was a smash hit in Japan. Keep in mind that it was marketed towards Japanese teenagers. When I first saw it on VHS fansubs, I was 14 or 15 and I loved it! Now it's faults are protected by teenage nostalgia; and the same goes for an entire generation of Japanese teenagers who watched it during it's airing. I think if I was in my 20's when I first saw it, my opinion would have been completely different. Everything non-UC is completely idiotic, Gundam fans simply do not have a high horse to ride on; Wing Gundam? G Gundam? Gundam Seed? Gundam 00? All complete and utter super-robot garbage. Regardless of your opinion on Macross 7, it looks like hard sci-fi when standing next to the AU Gundam contenders.
  14. "Ore no" is a pretty rude/macho way of saying it, haha.
  15. I'm really hoping they have some kind of cameo beyond Sherly's less brash/macho way of saying "Listen to my song!". Even if it's something like Fire Bomber playing on a screen in the background, or maybe even a bit of generation gap comedy where an older character is 'dated' by their musical tastes. I'm really impressed with the number of inside jokes and references they managed to pack into the first episode, without being overt about it; lets hope they keep up the trend!
  16. That ship you see there is an Uraga Carrier which is about 1/3rd the length of a New Macross Carrier. But I agree completely with your assessment about Frontier's size. Just after the timeline recap, there is a flyby that shows the Battle 25 docked with the Frontier; assuming Battle 25 is the same size as the Battle 7, then frontier is waaaaay bigger than the City 7. Perhaps Frontier and Galaxy are the only colonies of this size? Hence them being named, and having different designations than the rest?
  17. "An inhabitable planet is discovered 11.7 light years from the Solar System in the Groombridge 1816 Star System. It is named "Eden" and colonization begins." Discovery might have been via Satellite imagery, or some other form of survey. For all we know the first steps of colonization may have been sending freighters full of building materials a year in advance of the colonists. Or it could have been a simple mistake, it's only a year off after all.
  18. I think you guys are reading way too much into the timescale shown in the intro; there is no way that Earth launched every single colony ship at the same time, and there is no way that Eden did the same, a mere one year after being colonized. A 'small' New-Macross colony displaces 7 billion tonnes, and the frontier (if we're using the battle section as a measuring stick) dwarfs the Macross 7; it simply isn't feasible that a dozen of these fleets were built in a year and launched simultaneously. Not only that, but in 2012, Earth's population was like 60,000ish; even with mass cloning, it would take time to populate those fleets.
  19. I was going to bring this up, at the top of the screen it has some jibberish about Rockstar Energy drink. LOL There are a lot of cool freeze frame moments, some of the 3D tactical readouts are just incedible the one around 11:04 shows half a dozen ship names and classes. One clearly shows that the main colony ship is indeed the New Macross 25, and the smaller pill shaped ships are "Island 1", "Island 2", etc. The same readout shows the status of the colony's pinpoint barrier system among other things. The sheer attention to detail is astounding.
  20. You can download the video from the Stage6 link; I got a steady 900KB/s from them! The file downloaded from Stage6 is standalone player compatible too, I just had to change the file extension from .divx to .avi
  21. Also, Stampede Valkyrie; the big K finally got to use it in a production series!
  22. Wow, wow, wow. Speechless at this point. I just love how they managed to reference every previous series without being overt about it. Also, the 2D/3D integration is seamless. Even simple things like the seatback screens in the starliner turning on looked beautiful. From the scene with VF-171's launching, to the last frame I was on the edge of my seat.
  23. I told myself I wasn't going to do this. Oh yeah, I'll just take my mind off it, occupy myself with other stuff and just casually wait till it is released. But noooooo here I am playing through Eternal Love Song (PC Engine) on one monitor with TT auto-refreshing on the other... oh brother.
