  1. Yeah, you heard that from someone who takes it upon themselves to make that kind of crap up to sound knowledgeable. It's naive to believe that they'd actually say that the triangle will be resolved so soon before the movie is actually released.
  2. Okay, I guess I'll go ahead and start listing my likes and dislikes for the sake of discussion. Pros: Cons: I'm sure I missed a few things here and there, but this is what I could think of at this time. Although I will watch the movie again when the fansubs come out, I'm probably not going to glean a whole lot more out of it then.
  3. See, you guys are purposely confusing me, aren't you?! Sounds like he's not sure if this is true or not. So, it's just a normal omamori, then? Wait, so it WAS given to him by his mother? Where did that get explained? See? Where are the straight answers!
  4. He must be a very superstitious guy then. I didn't see anything else that he did to show any kinds of superstitions that he holds, though. I just figured it had some kind of true importance to him.
  5. Okay, so before I post my pros and cons of the movie, are we instituting a mandatory spoiler tag on such statements? Or are we just gonna say "If you clicked this topic, you should have expected to see some spoilers"?
  6. Oh yeah... there was lots of Grace love for David to partake of. I watched the movie and every time, I was like "Damn, David is gonna loooove this scene".
  7. Okay, so I had to look up what an omamori is. Why does it seem to be so important to Alto?
  8. I've wondered this since I first saw MacF, but what the hell is that red tag thingy that Alto wears around his neck? Is that a representation of his birthright, or something?
  9. Yeah, once I get the spare change to buy the movie, I'd like a little bit of help too. Make with the linkage, people!
  10. Oddly enough, I am reminded of the scene from The 40-Year-Old Virgin... "Asia?! You framed an Asia poster?! How hard did the guys at the frame store laugh when you brought this in?" Actually, I'm a bit jealous. They look pretty bitchin'!
  11. I agree about Macross Plus being the best example of what would make a better overall "feel". It seems like all of the anime shows that I see here and there are always putting in obvious forms of fanservice. Kind of gets me irked whenever I see them crop up in a show that I was just starting to enjoy.
  12. I know Mechamaniac was one of the translators for the version I have. He stops by this forum every once in awhile.
  13. I was about to say something about fanfics and you beat me to it while I was at school today! I guess you can say that if you have an appetite for answers to those burning questions about existing characters, then look up some fanfics and see what other people have come up with as possible outcomes. Yes, most of them are terrible, but you come upon good ones from time to time. Fanfics do a good job of filling in those little niche storylines that you wanted to see stretched out some more in whatever series it is that you're watching. Since the general premise is that some people don't want to see more stories about the same characters, they can remain happy with what the Macross franchise has offered so far. The others, whom want to hear more stories about their favorite characters in that series, can read all about it in fanfics. Hell, they can produce their own fanfics, if they are so inclined. That's what I did (am doing). I liked the way one of my friends put it, "Fanfics are like starter kits for writers. The characters and story are already there for you to use; you just have to come up with your own ideas."
  14. I'm not an expert on printing, by any means. My knowledge comes from watching the process being done (I was doing accounting work for that company, but I did help out with manual labor in the shop from time to time). The PRINTING process itself is more expensive when you have to deal with more colors. CMYK requires a 4-color press, while B&W requires only 1... we used two-color presses. However, the BINDERY work done is completely arbitrary. The machine had many different hoppers for each page to bind and you could put whatever you want anywhere you want on the hopper assembly to organize the pages in any way you wanted. You could print black and white on a 4-color press if you wanted to, but it would be cheaper to just do it on a 1 or 2 color press... it would just consume more energy to run a 4-color press and the operator would probably cost more since he is a bit more skilled than a 2-color press operator. My point was that you said that the bindery work would cost more to insert color pages here and there. I am saying that it doesn't matter, but I could be wrong if they are using a binding process that I have not witnessed myself. The bindery machine we had did mostly saddleback binding. We outsourced the really complex binding jobs like books and the such... If I am assuming this correctly, they take the harder outer cover of the manga book, and possibly glue the inside pages onto the spine of the cover. If that's the case, you'd just need to place each individual page in the right order on the sorting machine and it would put all of the pages together in the predetermined order and then you just glue them to the cover. Wash, rinse, repeat...
  15. When I worked at a printing company, it was easy to put whatever pages in wherever you wanted on the binding machine. Inserting a color page anywhere you wanted was no big deal. Perhaps we just used a completely different bindery machine than the publishers of MtF.
  16. Yeah, I'm thinking that this is one of those "Let's not get too literal and just enjoy the show" moments. There's no official explanation and it's all left up to the imagination of the viewer.
  17. Yes, and the um.... "relationship" she had with Leon was kind of interesting. It just didn't get enough of the spotlight, I guess. The way I see it, Leon was messing around with her. I wonder what that would have been like!
  18. I still "lol" at the "Baddest Black Man in Outer Space" clip. The "2001: A Space Odyssey" reference was the best part. Turntable... lol.
  19. Holy crap, Sketchley. I agree with you wholeheartedly here. I was actually thinking of just coming out and saying it in one of these movie threads: I'm sick of being bombarded by Alto, Sheryl, and Ranka! There, I said it! I very much love the more "adult" characters in the series. Ozma, Cathy, Klan, and Michael are my faves. I know Michael is 17, but he's wise beyond his years. Honorable mentions go out to Bobby, Captain Wilder, Monica, Kanaria, and I guess Brera... even though Brera was quite a pain in the ass throughout the series. *exhale* Okay, I said it. I feel better now.
  20. Meh... needs moar Klan, Cathy, Michael, etc... Oh, and Ozma owns. That is all.
  21. "We're sorry, our current service is not available in your country"?? What a tease...
  22. I'm just gonna bump this thread because the release date is almost here. Oh, the anticipation...!
  23. Of course, I see that Keith threw in his unbiased two cents on the reader discussion at the bottom. REPRESENT!
