  1. I especially like this Valk because its Gerwalk has got a VF-1/11/19 hybrid look going.

It's Battroid, while goofy looking in the lineart, really benefits from some real world proportions on those models too.

  2. If they jut re-release the YF-19 with some sort of "neck cover" I'll seriously buy like 3 of them. The gullet I can live with but not the protruding neck/head >_< .

Being a fan of all three modes that would not suffice for me. It's too floppy in Gerwalk/Battroid for me to be happy with it.

  3. They should reboot SDFM with a new cg animated tv series imo. There is so much badly drawn valks in it that kids of today won't watch this show just because it looks old. Let that be the 30th anniversary project. It would make future vf-1 toys easier to make so fans don't whine about how it's not canon enough to lineart. haha

This way toy companies have the cg plane as the guide and no more arguing about which is the real shape and which is the imaginary fan-fiction ideal of what the valk should look like. The tv series hasn't aged well. After seeing macross zero I always wondered what it would be like if they did that.

They've already got a big chunk of it done with that Pachinko machine...

  4. A New Macross class carrier I mean. Examples being Battle 7 from Macross 7 and Battle Frontier and Battle Galaxy from Macross Galaxy.

I see what you mean now. Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I would be far more interested in Battle 7 or Battle Galaxy then the Macross Quarter (which I find a stupid/lazy design.) I actually really love how the Northamptons from Mac 7 look even though they aren't of the transforming variety. I'd buy on in scale with the other

add some pics of 11 and 19 kai:

You always manage to sex up that Gerwalk mode.

  5. Who cares who the pilot is lol, just buy it, its a VF-19!! And if you don't have the Fire Valk then this is a good alternative. I have the fire valk and will most likely be getting this one too.

That's precisely my feeling. I don't give a crap who the pilot is if I like the way the Valk looks. The pilot can be whoever I want to. Every single Valk I own could be simultaneously piloted by Bigger Johnson for all I care.

  6. I went with HLJ, it's only a 2% difference on the list price and HLJ's shipping is typically 20% cheaper. I'm probably going to have to skip the VF-17 and anything Bandai puts out for the next year but I don't really care, it's that pretty.

That's a good point and I hadn't considered that before pre-ordering at amiami.

  7. I do have a concern that carries over from the V.1---the neck/chest piece being the same as Alto's. Can't tell from these pics, but the "slots for the head-cannons" in the skull-logo pic do seem longer than they need to be--like if they were sized/shaped for Alto's.

According to this lineart those extra long slots are accurate.

  8. I think you're right. This is my Kai and as you can see I barely bend the ankles backwards in gerwalk mode.

It looks like from the angle of the ankles it's pretty sturdy in that pose even as low as the nose is. Is that the case? That looks just like any classic, deep A-stance I can think of for a 19 in Gerwalk. I'm not sure what the issue with the ankles are in that mode. I could see some fancier positions in Battroid being an issue however.

  9. OK, yes, but it wouldn't exactly be "the same pose", though.

What pose are you going for exactly? I tend to put my VF-1's in the deepest A stances and the only way to do that and get the look I like is by splaying the legs and adjusting the ankles in (as best I can considering how limited the range is on the VF-1's.) It seems like this would actually help me more than the ankles going forward or back. I don't have a Kai so I can't say for sure but it appears in that video they adjusted the legs/ankles in exactly the same manner I always have to get a deeper stance. And remember I'm Mr. Gerwalk, that's my favorite mode so I tend to play with that mode the most.

  10. I can pull the ankles out without effort by following the Instructions Manual’s 2 steps for doing so.

Also see what these Yamato guy do in these old videos: anything but force.

Damn, I can't wait for my S, F and P after watching those videos. Something I did notice in that second video is they're using the fact the ankles tilt left and right farther than forward/back plus the legs being splayed to make an aggressive a stance instead of adjusting the ankles forward/back to get the same pose. It's not impossible to get something really aggressive you just can't do it with the legs straight forward/back.

  11. I want to say no, but I haven't tested that myself. The toe and heel have two stable positions that they click into, but I don't think the hinges have any sort of tension to them that would support the weight of any poses that use intermediate positions.

The toes have clickable positions? That's way better then those damn floppy toes on the Hi-metal VF-1's.

  12. I'll repost this here for an illustration. I was really careful not to spread the ankle joint when I did this, and this is about as far as the ankle will go.

    firevalkfoot.jpg

I moved the ankle only to the point where it looked like the ankle shaft was starting to press on the rim of the ball joint, and this is how far it moved. Compared with every other ankle Yamato has made, it has almost no range of motion at all.

I'm hoping they can improve this somewhat on the VF-19, but I don't have my hopes up. And I really hope they don't make this same mistake on the VF-17.

Good thing I like fighter mode more anyway. <_<

Does the "toe" joint make up for the lack of ankle movement?
