    Hello everyone:

I have a couple of questions about emigrant fleets.  Is there any information on which was the last of the emigrant fleets that was launched from The Earth (Solar System)?  Is there any kind of emigrant ship in between the City Class and the Island Cluster Class? Can the Macross 11 main colonization shio (the one that appears in episode 25 of Frontier) be considered an Intermediate? (It is seen next to an environment type ship similar to the one seen in the Frontier fleet).

Thanks for your time and sorry for any grammatical or translation errors in the post (English is not my native language).

    Kind regards.

    Juan.

There is also the Island Jackpot From Macross Delta, that while simply being a smaller version of the Island One City Ship from Macross Frontier it is kind of a intermediate city ship design. That is what I used it for in my fanfiction stories. It could also be a sort of early Second Generation Colony Ship Design (i.e Macross 1 to Macross 5).

So Max is indeed the grandfather of Mirage ?

Hmmm.... Yes. They mention it during Delta that Mirage is the granddaughter of Milia and Max. That is why she ended up leaving NUNS as people were expecting her to be like her Grandparents and she couldn't handle that pressure.

Eh... it's not as cut and dry as all that.  It varies heavily based on the property, the character, and the circumstances.

If a character's too important to the story to lose, they'll recast them without hesitation.  If the character's important but their presence isn't strictly required, they'll often be replaced by a new, suspiciously similar, character in the same role like how Beltorchika Irma's role was taken by Chan Agi in Char's Counterattack.  If the character isn't actually important, they might find themselves removed from the story outright or remain but be reduced to a non-speaking role like what happened to coach Todoroki in Silver Spoon after VA Kenji Utsumi passed.

Or Sayla Mass during Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. As her VA had other commitments at the time. Hence, Sayla getting only a brief cameo in the series and Beltorchika, a similar looking character, was introduced to the series to be Amuro's new Love Interest.

The one in Macross 30 has small runways in each side... but that Northampton is based on the Frontier ones, a modernized version of the frigate. I'm (trying) modeling the one from M7

Yes. That is the Gefion and is only a single ship so far upgraded in that way. The Macross Frontier/Macross Delta Northampton doesn't have the runways and such of the Gefion. That said from from what I remember about watching the Macross 7 episode with the Stargazer the fighters launch from those blue hatches as I mentioned. No idea on the interior of the ship for its hangars. I am sure one of the books will have some lineart of the hangars on a Northampton.

  5. 1 minute ago, Gerli said:

It depends on the variant. For this M7 Version of the ship I think the fighters deploy via those blue painted hatches along the sides of the ship. Though for anything else you have to wait for @Seto Kaiba to come in.

  6. Okay.

I know this is a Macross Forum, but I have seen some stuff for Robotech on here in the past and I wanted to recommend a Robotech fic to all. It is called Salvage and is over at the Sufficient Velocity forums. It is about Vanessa Leeds after the events of the finale of the Macross Saga and the loss of the rest of the SDF-1's bridge crew beside her (and Lisa). A well written and interesting story all around so far.

Apart from the Macross, the pre-war UN Forces seemed to favor naming their space carriers after famous naval warships or classes of naval warship (e.g. InvincibleEnterprise) or after heads of state of the Unification Government (Harlan J. NivenRobert A. Rhysling).

I actually thought that made all sort of sense for UN Spacy Carriers to be named after older naval warships. I just wish they gave the ARMD-Class Enterprise a bit more combat history before destroying it. To allow it to prove itself to be known as the Enterprise. I didn't care they destroyed it I just wanted it to go out with a bit more finesse enough to earn it accolades alongside its namesakes. But that is just me.

The space destroyers seem to be named after significant figures in the development of spaceflight technology (OberthGoddardTsiolkovsky).

I actually really liked this idea and wished they kept it up. Though they would have perhaps had run out of names eventually, but still it was an interesting idea that paved the way for the UN Spacy to have its own naming conventions over that of the earlier blue water navies.

The Uraga-class is named for Uraga, a historical port town now a part of Yokosuka in Kanegawa.  Some of its sister ships are named for similar municipalities like Aberdeen or Keflavik.

That is interesting. I did not know what the Uraga Class had been named after till now.

36 minutes ago, Seto Kaiba said:

The Guantanamo-class is named for the port town of the same name home to the infamous military base in Cuba, and several of its sister ships are also named for harbors like MaizuruMamoi, etc.  You get a couple odd birds in the mix that are seemingly named for famous people or places where famous battles occurred (or the ships named after them) like Vella GulfVandegrift, or Belleau Wood

Though I did know this, funny I didn't connect that with the later Uraga Class. Also, I think the Guantanamo Class is going to have the same problem the Northampton Class and its variants have and that is too many ships to actually have a valid naming scheme for the entire class. I would think that the individual fleets or colonies would have their own schemes for their ships of those classes.

49 minutes ago, Seto Kaiba said:

The Northampton-class is presumably named for the US Navy's cruiser by the same name, and seems to have kind of an anything goes lack of a naming convention, with references to Bologna (the city), GlendaleAmagi, etc.

Yeah. With over nine thousand ships produced the Northampton Class really can't have a normal naming scheme hence why I think it would have different fleets or colonies with their own naming schemes. Or they really are named with anything that makes sense.

52 minutes ago, Seto Kaiba said:

IMO, the logical port of call for naming something like the stealth cruiser would be other infamous classes of escort.  Since the stealth cruiser is a modified Northampton-class frame, it'd make sense to name it after the real world cruiser class that was also a modified Northampton-class... the Portland-class.

My own head canon name for the Stealth Cruiser was actually the Ontario Class before I learned that a fan-created book called them the Osaka and started to use that in my head canon now. I never really connected the name of the Northampton with the naval ship of the same name instead seeing it as a link to the town of Northampton so I decided to start naming the Stealth Cruiser after regional areas of countries, hence the Ontario Class.  So instead I started to use the Ontario Class for a variant of the Stealth Cruiser.

Honestly, I would prefer a non-American or non-Japanese name for the Stealth Cruiser since the vast majority of the named ships we do have are of those two different former nations. Shrug. Just a think I had.

59 minutes ago, Seto Kaiba said:

Yeah, it's kind of a big gap... though Macross Delta in general is pretty detail-sparse.

Yeah. Kind of pity for there is plenty of stuff in Delta I would love to explore a bit more. For example, I would also like more on the Enterprise Class as well. Like how many fighters can it carry and does it naturally carry a Macross Cannon or was that only a custom job?

  8. Honestly, I am just glad there is something to call the Stealth Cruiser in my stories now without my own madeup class name ruining things. Still wish we had some more information on the Windermere ships outside of what we little we got from the man himself Berger Stone during his little introduction to Xaos after he arrived. The only thing I got from that is the Windermere ship that is based on the Deneb Class actually has two main variants. One with turrets along the frontal hull and the second looking almost exactly like the regular Deneb Class just its hull looking like its partner variant.

  9. 1 hour ago, pengbuzz said:

Well, I would take Master File with a grain of salt, given what Seto Kaiba has told us of the info they include.

True, that. Still I would love to find out the class names for some of the ships we see in both Frontier and into Delta. Like the Stealth Cruiser or the Windermere Ships in Delta. Though, from what I understand a non-canonical source of some sort had the Stealth Cruiser as the Osaka Class if I remember correctly.

  10. Spoiler

Huh. Apparently I was wrong earlier that Max's ship in the movie is the same second Macross Elysion Class ship we see at the end of the first movie. The Macross Grasion. Instead according to MAHQ Max's ship is actually the Macross Gigasion. While it does like the same class the Elysion it actually looks somewhat different with the "arms" being slightly longer and some sort of wings along the sides of the main hull. So that is now four ships of the Elysion Class.

    Heh.

Noticed something else about them as well. All four have -sion at the end of their names.

  12. Spoiler

Speaking of Berger's mentioning of Lady M being around since the end of Space War I and Xaos getting a message from Megaroad-01 after the Vajra War. Wasn't that actually in the series itself. It never appeared in the movie proper. Therefore, things maybe different for this movie version of events.

  13. So, I wanted to ask since apparently my google-fu is really not all that great right now. Is the movie going to be streamed on one of the streaming sites like say the Gundam Hathaway Movie was? Or are we going to get it in theaters? I know someone else asked this earlier but I did not see anyone answering it so figured I bring it up again.

The first movie increases the size of Xaos's available forces in the cluster to three Elysion-type Macrosses and various escort ships, though one ends up subverted by Var syndrome's mind control effects and destroys the other, leaving just Elysion fighting on the protagonist's side.

Actually no the Megasion (the brown(?) colored one) was destroyed by the Windermere before they ever got to Ragna for the final part of the battle. The Grasion was the green colored one and did ended up under the control of the Var though it tried to combat the Elysion but Plot Armor and other such things had the Elysion manage to live through the opening barrage. It later almost got a Macross Attack from a recovered Elysion to the head but managed to shake off the Var due to Walkure Singing.

Wait, I thought in the series, Ranka was 14, then turned 15 and Hayate gave her snow to remind her of Windemere.  There has been 10 years since the series?  Im confused

Snort. I got things crossed. Ranka is the half(?)-Zentradi Girl we know from Frontier who becomes a major singer and part of the reason for the Macross Frontier Fleet to win the war against the Vajra, Frejya is the Windermere Girl that becomes a part of Walkure and a main characther in Delta.

So, the Macross Grasion is supposedly from the Listania, which is in the Brisingr cluster.

The movie version of Xaos appears to have more forces in place in the Brisingr cluster than the TV version did... which makes a modicum of sense given that the TV version's forces seemed to amount to just the Elysion and a handful of frigates.

    Spoiler

Hmmm... Honestly. In the TV Series I thought that Xaos had a larger force then just the Elysion. Granted we see one Northampton Class Frigate with Xaos markings during the beginning of Episode 12 though seen that frigate also was folding with a Stealth Cruiser and I think another couple of Northampton Class ships I think they too are Xaos. Then a few seconds later see more several more ships plus fighters hanging out around the Elysion. Including what seems to be a couple of Carriers along with what looks to be some sort of a Deneb Class Variant though you only get a black outline in that shot I am mentioning. Then later on during the next episode or the episode after that the officer that contacts the Elysion about the Windermere fleet arriving at Ragna wears a Xaos not a NUNS uniform. Then when the Elysion and what is left of the defending forces retreats from Ragna the other ships with it are a couple of carriers a handful of Frigates and a Cruiser or two. Later on in the series, it looks like they get reinforced with several further ships including a couple of Uraga Class ships with what looks to be NUNS markings instead of Xaos since they have the NUNS on their flight deck.

EDIT: Huh. While the guy that reports to the Elysion is Xaos. A few other regular NUNS personnel are seen right before that bit. Not to mention, the Ragna Defense Fleet sports a couple of Uraga Class ships carriers as the Windermere Fleet arrives. Of which, they have NUNS spelled across the front part of their flight deck. So maybe not Xaos. I think the Ragna Defense Fleet is actually a mix of Xaos and regular NUNS ships.

  17. Grumble. Really shouldn't have read the past few pages. Still looks to be an interesting movie and story. Though like the others here I am not going to say if it is going to be good or not till I actually see it. That said, I have a few questions/observations about what we know so far:

    Spoiler
    • First up, Seto earlier mentioned that Frejya is not in her twenties. How long has it been since the end of the first movie? Since the Elysion hasn't had its other "arm" replaced yet as of the five minutes start of the movie I saw.
    • Secondly, you know I find it interesting that Max now commands the second Macross Elysion Type/Class ship we saw in the first movie, the Macross Grasion (i.e the other Macross ship that survived at the end of the movie with the third ship seen, the Macross Megasion destroyed earlier in the final battle). That is the name is correct from the spoilers is correct of course.
    • Finally, if the above is true, why had Xaos/Chaos started another Branch? Or had the Megasion and the Grasion during the first movie actually from other branches of the organization? Though from what I remember that was never really mentioned in the movie, those two ships plus a fleet of regular ships just appeared with the Elysion when they started the final battle in the movie.

Alright that is about it from me. I am sure I am going to have plenty to talk about once I actually managed to watch the movie.

EDIT: Oh. Should have spoiler tagged that list. Done.
    EDIT 2: Added links.
