  1. I'm going from one Fukuda Mitsuo involved series to another. Just finished watching all of Cyber Formula (TV & OAV series) and have now started on Cross Ange. It certainly took awhile for Ange to end her cringeworthy princess ways!
  2. The question is - who owns the format to Top Gear? BBC or Clarkson? if the format owner is the BBC, then potentially they could replace the whole cast or just Clarkson. It that were to happen, it would certainly be a test to see where the show's strength was - the format or the cast. If the format owner is Clarkson, then potentially he could take the format to another station. The problem is, most other broadcasters rely on advertising money and Clarkson would likely not be free to mouth off as he'd like to.
  3. Also, back in WWII, P-51 and P-47 fighters flew with blue noses, red tails, checker patterns, nose art, natural metal finish and such.
  4. The 1/100 Toynami VF-1s are my least favorite. At first glance and taking the price into consideration, they didn't seem too bad. But once I looked at them closer and played around with them, I realized that they are quite terrible. I rank them below the VF100 VF-25 (which despite problems I still like) and the perfect transformation Revoltech VF-1 (which is pretty awful in its own way but it's still better than the Toynami). As a fan of smaller scale toys, it's disappointing that so many are mediocre. Oh well, it's one of many reasons why I moved onto building kits.
  5. These are some of the typical ecchi tropes you see in anime 1. panchira (パンチラ) - a slight peak of the panties 2. panmoro (パンモロ) - full blown showing of panties 3. chichiyure (乳ゆれ) - breast shaking/bouncing 4. sukaato mekuri (スカートめくり) - lifting up of the skirt 5. nyuuyoku scene (入浴シーン) - bathing scene (bathtub, shower, onsen) 6. kigae scene (着替えシーン) - changing clothes scene Here's a page with a lot of ecchi scene pics : http://d.hatena.ne.jp/kibisan/20140806
  6. Isn't that the Age of Ultron Captain America suit? Looks pretty good. This will fit in nicely with the rest of my Figma and SHF figures. I wish they had done the Winter Soldier Cap suit though.
  7. I saw it. The race in St. Petersburg could've been so much more interesting and exciting. Yet it was rather boring. The older race to Heathrow was so much more better.
  8. Yes, all animation these days are computer colored and digitally animated. The days of animators painting cels by hand with a brush and camera shooting each cel frame died many years ago. The last Gundam anime that was non-digitally animated was I believe Turn A Gundam.
  9. That's probably an in-joke to Dengeki's light novel "Girly Air Force".
  10. Looks like you're in the same boat that I was in 5 years ago. I posted my first Macross kit build here at MW back in March 2009. Like you, it was a twenty year break between age 16 and 36. BTW, don't get it too frustrated when the build doesn't quite go well. We've all been there. Heck I still make countless mistakes and my builds are still nowhere near some of experts here. But it's all good fun.
  11. For $10 a piece, they're not too bad. They're certainly much better than the DeAgostini models. But keep in mind that - a. they're mostly made of plastic rather than diecast. b. they don't come with interchangeable landing gears c. they don't come with pilots or canopies that open d. certain details can be off and require DIY fixes (such as missiles being incorrectly positioned or seats sitting way too low in the cockpit, certain color detail missing, etc)
  12. Motorweek has lately been posting to Youtube old reviews from years past. Here's one for the '85 AE86 and MR2. 0-60 in 9.7 secs for MR2. Folks today would call that slow as hell.
  13. Considering that the F-18 Hornet's lineage can be traced back to the F-5, what the Iranians did isn't totally outrageous.
  14. Even with the shallower depth shelves, the tall Billy bookcases are better than the Detolfs for display space. With glass doors, they're also better at keeping the dust away. The Detolfs have too many gaps IMO. But yes, the Billy bookcases can get expensive once you add glass doors. Though still way cheaper than getting a curio cabinet of similar size. Here are of my Billys with glass doors.
  15. However, the attention to detail these models have, just about blows away any Valkyrie toy. I wish there was a maker out there that threw out the transformation feature and offered fighter mode Valkyries with the level of detail found in these Alter models.
  16. Here's my just completed HGUC Nemo. All I did was change the bright green of the original plastic to something more military-like. I used a Tamiya rattlecan spray.
  17. The easiest paint scheme to do is the TV Kakizaki VF-1A.
  18. Tips to spraycan painting: 1. Shake the can well. Shake vigorously and for a good amount of time. 2. Use a spraycan gun. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/SafeWorld-International-116504-12-Original-Spray/dp/B004YEBVVU/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1418572954&sr=1-2 3. Spray the paint from a distance. 7-inches or more depending on the spray force. 4. Spray from one empty space to another. In other words, don't start the spray by pointing it directly at the piece.
  19. I'm just about to finish a Nemo as well (mine is the Zeta Gundam edition). Just a clear flat coat and final put together to go. I changed the bright green color of the original plastic to a more subdued military green with Tamiya spraycan paint.
  20. The 7-11 Gunperry was pretty cool IMPO. I think store brand liveries tend to work better with trucks, trains, and cargo aircraft.
  21. Completed my 1/72 Bandai VF-1S Hikaru kit. This kit has been controversial from the beginning and now that I’ve finished this kit, I figured I’d give my own viewpoint. I’ll try to be fair and balanced. J I built this kit without painting much. The parts I painted were - - the tailfins - the foot thrusters - the gunpod - some minor details here and there - the black stripes on the arms, legs, and wings I had to paint the black stripes because the Bandai decals were terrible and generally a pain to work with. Those areas are also heavily touched during construction. Decals can be easily scratched even with a clear coat on top. Paint is a bit tougher (esp the lacquer & enamels I use). Painting them was also much easier. A couple of mods were made. The main one being the wheels for the landing gear. The wheels included with the kit were way too small for my liking. I thought about using the wheels from the Hasegawa kit but those are small too. I’ve always felt that Valks should have big meaty tires. So anyway, I cut off the wheel attachment point, drilled a hole, inserted a brass rod, and attached F/A-18 Hornet wheels from an aftermarket resin set. This does however mean that the landing gears no longer goes into the bays. But that’s okay since I don’t plan on swooshing this around like a toy or transforming it to any other mode. Another mod was to the gunpod attachment. Since the model is staying in fighter mode, I cut the ugly gunpod holding strap and simply glued the gunpod to the attachment point. The final mod was an attempt to fix the inward slant of the lower legs. Fellow MW member, Budokhan, seemed to have come up with a easy fix and I tried it out. It’s not perfect, but it’s a heck of lot better than it was originally. In general, the buildup of this kit isn’t that hard. Most of the parts come together decently. There is however, one section that I had trouble with Despite following the instructions, I simply could not figure out a way to firmly attach the shoulder rotation point to the socket. After numerous tries, I gave up and gutted the whole shoulder linkage section. Which is just as well as I had no intention of ever taking it out of fighter mode anyways. There’s probably a better way to put that shoulder section together but I really don’t care about transforming so I’m not going to bother. In all honesty, it’s not a bad kit to build into fighter mode. Since I glued many of the moving parts, it’s all nice and tight. Another thing that is nice when it’s all put together is the heft of the model (at least in fighter mode). The quality of plastic Bandai uses and all the mechanisms for transforming gives this model some weight. It’s not important but it feels nice. As for the general “look” I find it to be just fine (at least in fighter mode). It’s not my favorite fighter mode model (that belongs to the Wave 1/100) but it’s looks well enough like a VF-1. If I had to complain, I think the tailfins are a bit on the small side. I guess this is the compromise for battroid mode. In the future, I might replace them with Hasegawa fins or something. That all said, I’m pretty happy with the end result. The mods I made help. Actually, I’m pretty chuffed with the Hornet wheels. I took the pics with a phone camera so some things are not correctly in focus.
  22. Yes, that 1/100 scale VF-19 kit at Amazon is what I was mentioning in my previous post. HLJ gets them in stock from time to time. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN953441/Sci http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN958222/Sci

    Hi-Metal R

Hopefully not. The Hi-Metal has one of the best and easiest transformations. No need to mess with it.
  24. You can't build a Hasegawa kit like a Gundam model. Hasegawa kits require you to know how to use glue, putty, paint, and water slide decals. They are not for the novice builder and they are definitely not meant for repeated posing. If you want to step up to learning how to build using glue and paints, I'd recommend getting one of the old 1980's Imai/Bandai kits. Various kits are available in 1/72 scale and 1/100 scale. Most of them are relatively simple to build and cheap to acquire. Give it a try. Completing one of these can be huge confidence builder. Posability is limited though. If you just want to snap the kits together, apply stickers, and call it a day, you could try the 1/100 scale Macross 7 kits. IIRC only the VF-19kai and VF-19S is available. However, these are pretty close to HG Gundam kits. Pre-colored, stickers, snapfit, and decent posability. If you must have a VF-1, consider the Wave 1/100 scale kits. These are mostly snapfit like Gundam models. However, some parts are going to require glue. Though it's not recommended, I think you can get away with not painting. You do have to know how to use water slide decals and it is absolutely required to spray a clear coat to protect the decals. Though I have yet to build the battroid kit, posability should be pretty decent.
