They look fantastic. Great work as always kurt. I wish I had some spare cash around to commission a custom. Maybe I'll save up for it. The more I see your work, the more I want to have one done for myself. And I just so happen to own a 1/48 VF-1A that has always been the black sheep of my triplets. Might just have to do something with it

Star Wars Episode 3 Spoilers Thread
Mr March replied to zeo-mare's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Speak for yourself, pal. I'm very impressed with Canada's medical system. I recently went through some major eye surgery to repair previous damage. It was less than three days between the time I was diagnosed and the time of the operation. All expenses were paid for by Medicare, from hospital time, doctors fees, medical supplies; I'll pay for none of that. No bill will come in the mail. If I get hurt, I go to a medical clinic, get fixed up, and go about my business; no money charged to me. The downside is that there's a lack of high-end medical diagnostic equipment, so there are naturally going to be waiting times for that. But that's a small price to pay, in my opinion, than dealing with a business-oriented medical system that profits from people's misfortune and injury. Funny thing is, the health care system in western Canada (particularly in Alberta where I live) is at a very low point in its history. For many years, the conservative government have run it with severe budget cuts that are hampering the level of service. But even with all the problems, two of my co-workers just recently had major surgery done (one was back surgery, the other was cancer treatment) with no trouble and no expense. Says quite a bit. Now that our province is out of debt, I hope the government gets their act together and starts properly funding health care again. The service may still be running, but it's the waiting that's terrible. -
I am so with you one this one. I had only known Gugino from her appearance on Spy Kids. She was so beautiful in Sin City, I was catching myself watching and thinking about her onscreen a little more than I should Quite a different role for her and I must say I'm quite taken.

M7 fans just need to admit that for whatever reason they like something that most hate, and most consider weak and sissy. I can't believe they just don't accept it. I mean I am a fan of a ton of stuff that most consider lame, but I am enough of a human being to laugh at my own taste and take the criticism. I have mentioned on multiple occasions on MW that I am a fan of Barry Manallow. I can see however why so many hate him, he is just a cheesball, but I like his music anyway. LOL! I must admit, this is the first time I noticed that you were a fan of Manilow. I have to say, that is pretty messed up. I suppose to each his own, but the great-ego-persona of AgentOne and "copacabana" are two things I never would have linked in a lifetime

Now that's one hell of a way to make a first impression! Welcome to the boards chris! Good gawd this GBP armor looks fantastic. I was worried that the armor would be too thin, since the 1/48 Valkyrie is fairly thin in Battroid mode (comparing it to the anime and lineart). I'm very glad to see that the 1/48 scale GBP armor is every bit as big and bulky as it appears in the anime, even more so. The thing looks menacing to say the least. For certain, at least two of these sets will be mine and I may even purchase a third simply to have one set for every 1/48 Valkyrie I own.

Most impressive. I love schematics.

Amateur writer and photographer. I hope one day I'll get enough education on my resume and enough skill behind the page/camera to do either as a full time career. I'm also a huge follower of film, which I often critique (last count was somewhere over a thousand films viewed). Thanks for the kind words...you too JKeats

Some people like it, most hate it. The more people hate Macross 7, the more vehemently the fans will defend it. Put yourself in the place of those who like it and ask yourself if you wouldn't do the same. Imagine someone saying Macross in general was crap and Gundam was way better. I bet I can guess your reaction...and mine. here's a better question: Is G Gundam better than Macross 7? I shiver with fear at the such a thread

Just got back from the noon showing for Sin City. I must say, this film really worked for me. I'm not really a fan of Robert Rodriguez, counting only El Mariachi and Desperado as films I enjoyed of his work to date. Nor do I enjoy Tarantino or other over-the-top violence directors. But for some reason, Sin City offers such a stylized, vivid story of the bad gone worse that I can't help but enjoy it. The stories are tight, the characters are well developed, and the entire package manages to come together nicely at the end, despite the seperate narratives. Best of all, the film maintains a common theme in the stories, consistant mood amoung the characters, and the visual aspect of the film remains fully grounded in the fictional setting. Without doubt, the film is a visual feast built upon a cohesive structure. Having read only the original Sin City graphic novel, I didn't know what to expect from the other stories. I came out of the theatre enjoying the performances of almost every character (my personal favorite was Willis' Hartigan). The film feels closest in style and appearance to old 40's noir films. The digital work feels both surreal because it is digital and physical like the old style sets and backdrops used in films of eras past. Modern merges with the old and creates an almost comic sense of drama, but the melodrama never overtakes the characters or the stories. Helping this is a high dose of modern action and blood. The movie is definitely not for the faint of heart. I came out of the theatre almost physically exhausted from the unending onslaught of action and visceral depictions. I knew exactly to whom I would recommend this film...and certainly who would never see it. If you enjoy other action flicks by Robert Rodriguez, Tarantino, and the like, this film is certainly for you. Those who don't chase after such fare might not enjoy Sin City, but the film noir nostaligia and visual impact may grab hold of film buffs (like myself) and take you on one hell of a ride. Overall, Sin City is a rough, exciting, and revolting ride of revenge and street justice played out in a digital noir style. Be prepared for something really different.

I bet I can guess your reaction...and mine. Granted, these threads are overblown to the point of total absurdity. No one should be quoting Pol Pot, Stalin, or Hitler unless you're having a discussion about Rwanda or some other recent, REAL LIFE tragedy. But hey, it's the net

It was obvious from the first teaser shots that the film is probably the closest comic-book-to-live-action adaptation ever made (story boards aside). What I find more extraordinary than the accuracy of the adaptation is the fact that most of these frames from the comic book function so remarkably well in film. Not all drawn frames translate well to film unless they are specifically drawn as story boards and mattes. Sin City almost seems made for film, since the frames appear so well as motion pcitures. Tomorrow at noon can't come fast enough

copy and paste, copy and paste... The question itself implies we are to impart some significant end to the contraversy that has become part of this board. As a member here at MW who typically never engages in the Macross 7 debate, I can offer very little of a definitive conclusion. I can offer an opinion and an intelligent evaluation. I've seen the first dozen episodes of Macross 7 and all four episodes of Macross 7 Dynamite. Having seen everything else Macross, I invest no effort to watch any more Macross 7 or related spin-offs for various reasons, all of which can be reduced to one word that describes Macross 7 in my eyes; forgettable. I tend to view art (Macross 7 is art, despite the controversy) in terms of its value in either one of two categories: Art that entertains relative to the state of the medium Art that contributes to the expansion and exploration of the medium to which it belongs Everything I watch can be measured by the success achieved in those two categories. It's a simple system that allows me to enjoy something silly, yet highly entertaining or enjoy other works more provocative and existential. Macross 7 is a work which offers insignificant value to me relative to the genre, the medium, or other works of entertainment or art. As such, Macross 7 becomes banal and is easily dismissed in favour of much more promising works that are more deserving of time and attention by the critical eye. Examining Macross 7 in great detail may ease the minds of those defending their adoration for the series, but the truth is Macross 7 is undeserving of such scrutiny and the vehemence of fans does little to persuade non-fans of its worth. As a piece of entertainment or art, Macross 7 succeeds only in as much as it can entice and maintain the interest of the viewer. As a viewer, I remain uninspired by Macross 7 and I'm unimpressed by what little it has to offer me or my love for entertainment and art.

Thanks for the preview FM. Though to be honest, my understanding of the film and expectations have been well in line with the subject matter and content for over a year now. Nonetheless, the average movie-goer will not be as well informed as myself (since I'm a film geek) so I hope other members take your words to heart. I actually read the Miller runs on Daredevil and TDKR many years ago. To this day, I still own many of the old Frank Miller comics. He was one of the best writers. Along with J. Micheal Straczynski, Alan Moore, and a few cherished others, Miller formed the core of my appreciation for comic books above the tired, cliched fare that pervades most of the industry. I hope more such true adaptations are attempted as a result of this flick. If it's good of course. Must remember to reserve judegment until I see it...

Very impressive. I've been expecting to see something like this for quite sometime. The unmanned reconnaissance aircraft and satellites are one thing, but to see something like this make it into the combined arms of the ground based military is something else. I'd be curious to learn more about the capabilities and especially the limitations of this new piece of hardware.

You mean like Tarantino's name attached to "Hero"? That was a name drop if I ever heard one. The extent of Tarantino's involvement in Sin City is a little more than simply helping to distribute the thing, but I agree the name dropping is silly. Rodriguez and him are best of buddies and Rodriguez is a big technophile. In an attempt to "modernize" Tarantino's filmmaking methods, Rob invited him to shoot a scene on digital. No big deal really, but hell, whatever helps sell the film right?

Hehehe, I forgot about this thread. It's coming Friday! Finally read the first Sin City graphic novel about 6 months ago. It was shorter than I had anticipated, but extremely stylish. The use of null space was quite amazing. I can certtainly see why translating this to film would be a big concern for any director. It's extremely difficult to capture the motif used in the graphic novels. I'm glad to say that the live action version looks about as faithful to the graphic design of the Sin City books as one is ever going to get. I can't wait to see the finished product. I've been watching the Sin City trailer and that 60MB 20 minute preview video going around the net. I'm getting really excited to finally see the film. Hope it's great!

...And why is that? Is it because in the 9 days you have been a member of this board you understand its politics and how its mods work? Maybe you are just some dip sh!t that signed up with a different handle and you have actually been here longer... Then again you may be a n00b who shoots his/her mouth off too much. As if it takes any great wisdom or experience to understand the "depths" of a place like MacrossWorld. One fandom board has much the same habits, flames, and crowd as any other...only the accents change

Just had a thought. Seeing these pictures makes me wish I purchased a Low-Visibility Valkyrie. The battroid is gonna look quite striking in GBP, even after the colors are put on the armor.
-
Must say, nothing surprising so far. I knew the GBP groin armor would require removal of the nose cone to look good, the shoulder covers were certainly to be expected, and I knew the 1/48 arms would look thin in GBP armor. Which is amazing that in spite of all that, the 1/48 scale GBP armor looks fantastic so far and I'm ready to purchase at least two or more. Funny thing is, I think that for once the 1/48 Valyrie outfitted in GBP armor will be more front-heavy than back-heavy. The chest portion is very large, combined with the addition of missiles in both the chest and forward half of the shoulders, it may be that the load will be in the front moreso than the back. Regardless, I am thrilled to see some progress being made on this product. It's been a long haul, but the 1/48 series is finally coming together at last. Eagerly awaiting the GBP release

Damn! Though I'm not a modeller myself, Starship Modeller was one of the original reference websites I frequented when I first got online years and years ago. The website is still on my favorites list to this day...hell, it's probably one of the first of the websites I ever bookmarked. It was invaluable when I was creating and running my website Starship Scales, back in my college days. I'm very sad to hear this news. I hope they weather this storm and the forums come back online.
