  1. I'm flabbergasted by this as well. When I first posted the news (you're welcome), I honestly expected the majority reaction to be mild bemusement ('who cares?') to outright anger. For me, bigger is generally better, and these new 1/60 toys just seem like crappier, cheaper knockoffs of the beautiful 1/48 toys, being made in order to squeeze a few more bucks out of us suckers. (yes, i know about the 'improvements'. spare me.) This just proves that I'm not in tune with the MacrossWorld mindset, I guess. The widespread excitement and cheering has caught me completely by surprise.
  2. Hoping for Graham's comments on this (perfect transforming 1/60 ABS vf-1 from Yamato, scaled down 1/48 i guess): Scroll down for VF-1 Happy holidays, Shag
  3. Actually, there are multiple GNU lines. For example, the recently released transforming (parts swapping) Bryger was from one of the GNU lines. http://www.hlj.com/product/YMT34523 (But yeah, I'm sure that Graham meant the small-scale nontransforming GNU line, sadly).
  4. Graham is obviously too polite to say this, so I will. OF COURSE THEY'LL EVENTUALLY MAKE A 1/60 VF-11, YOU MORONS! USE YOUR BRAINS!
  5. and anyone who couldn't tell that the news release was a joke should start wearing a safety helmet when they walk outside...
  6. Nose/fuselage too fat when viewed from above in fighter mode, same problem as YF-19. Looks good in battroid to me. It's heretical to say so, but IMO in some ways the 1/72 Mac+ valks looked better (yes, I have both 1/72 and 1/60 YF-19's). The 1/48 VF-1 had really superior construction compared to the early Yamato valks, but with the recent breakage problems, it seems that Yamato toys are getting worse. I hope the YF-21 is a return to the solidity of the wonderful 1/48 VF-1.
  7. Great news, I'll snap this one up. But what is it with fat fuselages lately? The Mac+ valks are supposed to have nice slender necks. Oh well.
  8. Not sure if this is new.. I like the looks of this toy in fighter mode, personally. [attachmentid=42283]
  9. Here's a scan from a hobby mag.. don't have much info on these.. I think it's just a teaser for now.. but Mospeada Madness may be coming! Bring it on!
  10. This is great news. With some fixes the Toynami Alpha could be a great toy. Of course, success isn't guaranteed, but I have some hope. I mainly hope they do the following: 1. improve the transformation to fighter mode by improving the fit of the parts 2. use better hands (please oh please) 3. fix the fighter mode's banana nose. I personally didn't have a problem with the joints, but if they want to improve those too, more power to em. Oh, and those anti-toynami fanatics who are already anticipating hating it next month: why don't you just bugger off now, and pay attention to the toys you might end up liking? Just a suggestion
  11. Well, thank you for that, but no, I don't think it's a misjudgement at all How is the sculpt superior on the Yamato? I don't see that at all, but that's a subjective matter (as is the vastly superior paint on the TakaraTomy, I guess). Being able to stand, by contrast, is NOT subjective. The DMZ is much more stable, with mechanically superior joints. The construction is better, less likely to shed parts. By those objective standards, then, TakaraTomy has produced a much higher quality product. In any case, your definition of quality as a purely subjective matter (which I don't agree with) begs the question of how any statement about it could be a misjudgement, but nevermind that.
  12. That's my opinion also, Graham. The DMZ is the superior toy. The thing the Yamato has going for it is sheer size, but I have had a lot of balance problems as well, even with ver 2 (try to pose him holding the rocket launcher.. oy). It's pretty inexcusable that Yamato sells expensive accessory packs that the toy can't even hold onto without falling over. And the tumbles are stressful, because (as you say) parts fly everywhere. Although, I must admit that I have not had any permanent breakage yet. DMZ just proves that TakaraTomy is more serious about quality than Yamato.
  13. Honestly, if Aoshima released toys that were basically the same as the toynami alphas but with a few glaringly obvious fixes applied, that'd be a great outcome. I think the toynami alphas had a lot of potential, ruined by some really boneheaded mistakes.
  14. I heard from another source that the shadow version will be the 'limited' color version (shin seiki gokin usually has a 'special' or 'limited' recolor with each release). This is not proof of them being the Toynami toys, but it is interesting.
  15. Toynami's got one big fan in me, at least, but I don't bother checking these threads very often, because the ratio of useful news to pointless bashing is pretty bad. I don't know where people get the energy to repeatedly post to threads about toys they don't even like.
  16. uh... these are already up for preorder at hlj! I wonder if maybe Aoshima is just repackaging the MPC Toynami Alphas here.. they have done that with some 'Product Enterprises' Gerry Anderson stuff. Were the MPC Alphas ever 'officially' released in Japan, or just imported by retailers?
  17. I saw a listing of the parts included in the RSC parts set, and unfortunately it didn't include the hands. Of course, that information may have been incorrect. Luckily Takara isn't taking a page out of Yamato's book when it comes to the pricing of the accessory sets. And hopefully Takara's Scopedog will actually be able to stand stably with the accessories on... imagine that. (I'm a little bitter about Yamato lately, sorry)
  18. aeug says that a hcmp Destroy Gundam is coming.. that's gonna be a big MF!
  19. Ah, good point. I had forgotten that. You're right, wave 2 of the 1/100's was significantly tighter.
  20. Floppiness is a relative thing. I don't think the elbows are really floppy, it's just that some of the guns are really heavy. If you don't put anything in the hands, the arms will hold poses fine. Of course, where's the fun in that?
  21. That's true in principle, however (speaking as one of Toynami's biggest defenders here) Toynami doesn't have a great track record for correcting things as they go. The alphas didn't improve at all with later releases. Of course, Toynami's first releases don't crumble in your hand the way that Yamato's do, but that's a different question.
  22. I received the HCMP Qubeley over the weekend, and boy, Bandai has really raised the bar with this one. Some features: 1. The top of the head pops off and the eyes turn, 2. The beam saber hilts stow properly in his wrists, and the wrists are articulated to facilitate removal, 3. The toy is painted iridescent white with a hint of pink, 4. Articulation is great throughout (of course, Qub is always a bit limited in articulation just due to the design, but Bandai did a great job here) 5. Each funnel is individually removable. If I had a complaint, it'd be that the hips are a touch loose. But this toy reminds me once again of the utter ridiculousness of the notion that Takara's AG series is on the same level as HCMP. I enjoy the Takara AGs that I own (Fatty Land Type and Diving Beetle) but the degree of intricacy and engineering in the best HCMPs is easily an order of magnitude greater.
  23. I have one of each. The ver 2 is a significant improvement, although it doesn't revolutionize the toy. The toes are clicky, which greatly reduces the danger of the toy flopping over (a significant risk with ver 1). There are other changes too, I forget what they all are - basically the joints are improved. I think someone listed the changes in a thread at TBDX a while back. Definitely get ver 2 instead of ver 1. Keep in mind that the Yamato isn't 'weathered' at all, it's more like an unpainted PG gundam kit. Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to be aware of.
  24. OK, Yamato, I'll make you a deal. Are you listening? I'll buy one of these SV-51 things for the ridiculous price, despite the fact that I'm not a fan of the design, and despite the fact that I'll have to handle it with kid gloves because there'll be a mile-long thread full of complaints about breakage (and I do apologize for the negativity of that statement). In return, you make a 1/60 YF-21 late this year or early next. Deal?
