  1. He was incredibly lucky that his clothing snagged something keeping him from being pulled into the fan blades. I heard that the A-7 also has a few horror stories around crewman getting sucked into the intake.
  2. Abit more up-to-date but still looks to be early 1980s.
  3. I also have to admit, I was really surprised with how small the carrier decks were on the Essex class. Maneuvering an F-4 and especially an A-5 Vigilante on deck would of been quite a task. I noticed the announcer used the designation F-8U but that could be any Crusader variant from the F-8A thru the Echo.
  4. I've decided to hold off on MK11 until I can get for a good discount or may even skip it altogether like I did MKX after all I've heard regarding microtransactions along with the cosmetic decisions. On the cosmetics, I can honestly live with the new female designs but with so much customization, I wish they would've provided older costumes as an option. It just seems odd to see Ed Boon and NRS treat the female legacy outfits (MK2-UMK) like they never existed while the male characters get their legacy outfits. All out of some false sense of morality that they suddenly adopt because of the #MeToo movement and some puritan SJWs they hired. I'm not saying go back to MK9 designs but I find it hard to believe that they can't find a middle ground and provide an option for the players. On a personal note, I hated Jade's human redesign in MK11. Would've gladly taken this instead.
  5. Impressively clean footage of carrier ops from 1962.
  6. There's a big oops. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/27620/russian-mig-31-foxhound-shot-down-its-wingman-during-disastrous-live-fire-exercise
  7. Unlocking a force power will cost you a dollar. Getting the actual lightsaber will cost you $5. I can see it now. The Inquisitor actually looks pretty menacing compared with those from Rebels.
  8. Another great display by the Swiss Hornet.
  9. A good read on a test pilot for the YF-23 who would also later fly the F-22. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/27309/the-only-man-who-flew-both-the-f-22-and-the-yf-23-on-why-the-yf-23-lost
  10. Imagining a scenario where a hostile aircraft being baited by a lone F-22 runs into a wall of AMRAAMs fired from a few Super Hens.
  11. Well it looks official. The USAF has reportedly bought 8 F-15Xs for their FY2020 budget. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/26916/8-f-15xs-for-usaf-and-22-f-5s-for-navy-in-2020-budget-request
  12. According to this resource, yes. They did test the Zuni rocket pods on the Cat. http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-zuni.htm From what I've heard, this will be the most complex module to date released on DCS. It definitely looks it. Heatblur is working on a detail AI version of the A-6E and KA-6D Intruder to boot which I can't wait to see and have voiced the possibility of developing the F-14D if the F-14A/B module is a big seller.
  13. Trailer reminds me of the old Microprose flight sim intro sequences.
  14. Went on a work trip a few days ago flying out to Kansas City. The first aircraft I was on was your common CRJ. Speedy little thing. On the way back though, I was put on an MD-88 and seated in the back very close to the engine. Hearing the JT8D spooling up for the first time was an interesting treat.
  15. Went to go see it today. Probably the best manga/anime to live action adaption so far. I really enjoyed it despite the poor pacing. It felt like a 3 hour movie at times while sitting in the theater. I did watch the anime movie the other day to get reacquainted with the story as it's been years since I saw it or read any of the manga.
  16. A good read on the incoming F-15X. http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/26305/f-15x-will-come-in-two-variants-and-no-it-wont-cost-100m-per-copy
  17. It will be interesting to see the differences in physical wear in 10 years between the F-35C and the A model.
  18. Okay. Now I'm curious. What were the pros/cons of the GE/RR engine over the 135? I don't imagine the difference was as stark as it was between the P&W F119 and the GE F120 were.
  19. The F135 is a beast of an engine indeed. I've heard it can been tweaked to push upto 50,000 pounds. Not sure how much that shortens the lifespan of the engine though.
  20. The AMRAAM-D is supposed to be ranged upto 60-65nm. Only double that of the AIM-120C from information is available. I wasn't implying that we should have stuck with the F-14 platform but it would have been wise to look into developing a future heavy fighter for the Navy to ultimately replace the Super Hornet that provides the endurance of the F-14, if not greater than, but also perform more effectively than the F-35 in A2A with a more powerful AESA radar and perhaps a modified version of the AMRAAM for long-range. The post-Cold War geopolitics ofcourse changed alot of priorities and there is only recently a reshuffling of priorities as China appears to becoming a greater threat along with a more aggressive Russian foreign policy.
