Bookmakers put him firmly in the running to take over from Pierce Brosnan - his odds have shortened from 25/1 to 7/1

Jude 'would consider' Bond role

4.55PM, 12 Feb 2004

Jude Law has confirmed he would consider the James Bond role if it was offered to him.

Bookmakers put him firmly in the running to take over from Pierce Brosnan, with his odds shortening from 25/1 to 7/1.

A spokesperson for the bookmakers said: "Jude Law's Oscar nomination for Cold Mountain has seen him hit new heights.

"The betting has been well and truly shaken and stirred by the news that he is tipped as a possible for the next Bond."

Odds for other contenders to be James Bond are as follows:

2/1 Hugh Jackman

7/2 Colin Farrell

5/1 Orlando Bloom

7/1 Jude Law

8/1 Christian Bale

8/1 Ewan McGregor

12/1 Greg Wise

12/1 Jeremy Northam

14/1 Russell Crowe

100/1 Robbie Williams

As much of as a Bond fan as I am, the last one was the biggest suck ever. It was basicly less realistic than the matrix, and included NO acting... Therefore I concur with Abombz, maybe we should just enjoy the old bond movies and not have any new...

If there must be a new one though, I would like to see Hugh, or Christian... None of the other guys though.

I think they should pry the Bond franchise out of the Brocolli's dying hands...

I'm surprised Clive Owen and James Purefoy are not on that list.

Maybe James, but Clive just isn't cool enough.

Those guys are also little girly-men, we need a Bond that is properly pumped up!

Hugh is too rugged to be Bond. To be Bond the actor has to be kind of girly.

So was Connery Girly!!!!?

Brosnan is really the best Bond since Connery, and Connery wasn't really that "girly" or "suave"... It was Roger Moore who made Bond into those things.

Brosnan is "girly" and "suave" without being Roger Moore

I don't know who from that list I'd pick. I really don't see any of them being Bond

How about Paul Walker? That would kill the Bond franchise for sure!

Surprised that Adrian Paul isn't on there somewhere.

Dude bears a striking resemblance to a young Connery, and he has the suave and girly thing down after 6 years of Highlander.

Adrian Paul was cool... But he's not really that great of an actor IMO.

Plus, he can't be in Bond without some cool ass Katana

I've read/heard in multiple places that the cool, English Roger Moore was closer to the original conception of Bond than the swarthy Celt Connery. But Moore was already committed to The Saint and had to wait a decade before getting his turn at the Bond role. Fleming even said at one point that David Niven (who played Bond in the spoof Casino Royale) would have been his choice, but Connery won Fleming over.

I hope one day to watch all the Bond films in order on DVD, but the project has stalled after Dr. No. I don't think I've even seen more than a few minutes of a non-Connery/Moore "Bond".

Of the lot mentioned at the beginning of this thread, the one guy I'd like to see is Ewan McGregor, who I believe could bring a lot of personality to the role provided he doesn't just try to do an impersonation of Connery. The only problem is that I'm not sure he's big enough or mature enough.

They could always give the job back to Timothy Dalton and put him in drag driving around in a pink clown car and call him Agent double-oh 69 Jamie Bond.

For my money Dalton was the [comic book guy] worst Bond... ever! [/comic book guy]

I myself would like to see someone with a more brooding thing going on like Clive Owen get the gig... it would make for a more "serious" dark Bond.

Edit: This publicity shot from Croupier has Bond dripping off of it...

No, no and NO!! I like Jude Law, but he's totally wrong for Bond. It is true that Moore was Flemmings first choice for Bond, but mercifully he was unavailable when they made Dr No. I doubt they would have made more than 2 or 3 films if Moore had won the role, back then.

Interestingly, Timothy Dalton was actually offered the role in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, back when Connery first walked. But he rightly felt he was too young for the role. And although it will probably draw JsARC's ire, I actually felt Dalton was pretty good in the role. He was certainly a lot closer to Flemming's Bond than Moore was.

And Brosnan? He's good, but the major failing of his recent movies has been the script. The writing has been atrocious! EXO is right about the Broccolis. They need to be put out to pasture. Heck, they can put them in the same field as Berman and Braga. If they could give Brosnan just one more flick, but with a GOOD script, then I feel we'd have something memorable.

So who do I like to replace Brosnan? To be honest, I don't know. I say they pick an unknown.

BAH!

:lol::p

Timmy Dalton may have been "closer to Ian Flemming's Bond" than Sean Connery but fer god's sakes Connery is Bond in my mind, everyone else is an immitator. The Bond of the books and the Bond of the movies are two different animals and when movie Bond came on the scene our man Sean filled out the role like a fat man at a buffet wearing elastic pants. No one can match Sean as Bond, they can only "create their own impression of Bond" for the audience to enjoy.

Connery - Real Bond

Lazenby - Sleepy Bond

Moore - Grandpa Bond

Dalton - Femme Bond

Brosnan - Pretty Boy Bond

Clive Owen's a good wheelman, but that's as far as he should go. He's not suave enough (IMHO), whatever happened to that idea of the first female 007?

....and I thought the producers were going to have a spinoff with Jinx (Halle Berry's character from Die Another Day).

Have you seen Croupier? He was just dripping with suave in that movie. I'll admit he is a longshot but he at least can pull off Bond if you give him a chance... those BMW spots he appeared in were a total waste of his tallent, he was more or less a prop for the car (which was the real star).

whatever happened to that idea of the first female 007?

That would be quite PC but it would totally kill the "Bond Vibe". Bond is a man's man hard drinking pistol packing punch throwing bad pun blabbing secret agent, not a woman. Bond is a very sexist icon and filling those shoes with a woman would be a real no no in my book... anyway isn't that what we have Tomb Raider and She Spies for? :p

cancelled in favor of one last Brosnan movie... whew, that was a close one...

Roger became too ga... er effeminate after a while, so much that his manliness couldn't handle it. :p And his mole kept getting bigger and bigger as he lasted on the series... I thought it was going to shoot a laser one of these days...
