Gubaba Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 really? hmmm Yep. Of course, there ARE other avenues available...fansubs are probably the best. If you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE them on DVD, you can always go for the Hong Kong or Malaysian bootlegs...but video, audio and sub quality varies widely. Some are nearly professional, others are garbled or just plain wrong.
BlackRose Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 If you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE them on DVD, you can always go for the Hong Kong or Malaysian bootlegs...but video, audio and sub quality varies widely. Some are nearly professional, others are garbled or just plain wrong. I've seen a couple unscrupulous comic shops in the US selling bootleg Macross DVDs, but from what I've heard they're just commonly available hard-subbed fansubs burned to DVD.
Killer Robot Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Even if you really want to view on a DVD player, if you're computer literate I strongly suggest downloading the fansubs and using a DVD building program to burn them. Fansubs and bootlegs both give no money to the creator, but a bootleg for sale means someone is actually making profit off the piracy. That said, the mood and style vary greatly between all the Macross series, so don't go into any of them expecting what you've seen before, and if it's not your style try one of the other ones.
ErikElvis Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Ok I suck at computers. Where do you find these fan subs and which ones are good? I would really like to see macross zero and frontier.

I sent you a PM about BitTorrent. Have you downloaded a BitTorrent client yet? if so, that makes everything easier. If not, go to http://getfansub.com/wiki/Category:Macross_Series
ErikElvis Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) Thanks for the link! I just watched zero episode 1. I did download bittorrent but couldnt get the video to play after I downloaded. Edited April 28, 2009 by ErikElvis
Mercurial Morpheus Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Install K-lite codec pack. www.codecguide.com. I've never come across that site before, Gubaba. Animesuki.com is a good choice for a torrent site. As for which are good, I recommend L-E or G_P for DYRL, Lunar, Menclave, or THORA for Frontier, and all the living torrents for Zero are good. A lot of high quality groups subbed that one. UTorrent is the best client in my book.
Gubaba Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I've never come across that site before, Gubaba. I came across it sometime early last year...and when my hard drive crashed last summer, I replaced a lot of stuff from there.
ErikElvis Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Ok Im trying to download episodes 1-5 of zero but its saying its gonna take 3 weeks
Killer Robot Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Ok Im trying to download episodes 1-5 of zero but its saying its gonna take 3 weeks Torrents can be slow starters sometimes. They usually pick up well enough. If it really does take forever, look for a different torrent with more seeds, or download an episode or two of one of the other series to see. None of the series are direct followups on another, so as long as you basically know what Macross is about you don't have to finish one before starting another.
ErikElvis Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Cool. Thanks guys. I think Im getting the hang of this. I really need my new computer though. I only have 4gb lleft on my old one. My new one arrived with a line down the screen and a charger thatgets super hot.
ErikElvis Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Another quick question. How is the quality when youburn these to a dvd? I would really like to watch them on my tv instead of this little screen
Mercurial Morpheus Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 The quality is dependant on the quality you download and just how much crappy mpeg2 compression you add when converting them. You're adding compression atop compression atop compression. Don't expect it to look too hot, particularly with the old Xvid encodes of Zero.
ErikElvis Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Just watched the first 10 eps of frontier. I have to say Im impressed. Music sucks but other than that its great. Cant download anymore until I get my new computer. This old ones filled.

ErikElvis Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 Haha well you cant have it all. Is there any thing special you need to do to burn them to a dvd? Ive downloaded the h264 versions.
ErikElvis Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Im just going to keep using this post as my own little blog. Anyone know of a good place to get do you remember love? I tried animesuki and it is butt slow
ff95gj Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 BURN THE HERETIC!!!! BURN HIM!!! BURN! BURN! BURN! Not the DVD! HIM!
Macette Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 How can you not like the music?!?! Anyone seen my torch? But regarding DYRL, I believe one our own MW Members did a really good Fan Dub, you may want to look into that.
ErikElvis Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Ok well I change my opinion. After about half way through the episodes I actually started to really like the music. Just took me a bit to get used ot I guess.
Mercurial Morpheus Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 We see through your deception. Forget torches, where's my flamethrower. Please don't abuse the thread. We've given you way too more help than needed. The last one would be Boxtorrents. They have a good version of DYRL. You can burn the episodes as is. Though I'm guessing you mean as a playable DVD and not a backup. You'll have to convert to mpeg 2, and it's really not worth the trouble. You'd be better off just joining AsianDVDClub and downloading the ISOs. Though if you wish to try, Doom9.org is your best resource.

Have also never burned a dvd. So I needed all the help I could get. Oh and I had NO clue where to download these things. I appreciate all the help in this thread. And thanks for the sites.
Mercurial Morpheus Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Mostly just responding to the "this is now my blog" comment. Thanks for not acrually creating new threads each time.
