Miniature transformable VF-1Js

I've got a question that's been bugging me so hard I registered just to ask it.

I have no memory of where or how, but sometime in the mid 80's, I got these miniature transforming Max & Milia VF-1Js. Slightly shorter than a 3" Gi Joe, and surprisingly almost as articulated. I thought they had to be common, all over the place. But I've never found a mention of them anywhere. Not here, not even at the Valkyrie Factory back when it existed.

I still own them. Dismantled in pieces and lazily never screwed back together, lost god knows where.

The question is, who the hell made them? Where did they come from? Will this be difficult as I think it'll be without pictures?

sounds to me like the ones that were remade with the pencil sharpeners in their backs like these: http://www.toyarchive.com/Macross/Macross3InchVFFakes1a.jpg

or these: http://www.toyarchive.com/Robotech/st7/kovf1a.html

or perhaps these: http://www.toyarchive.com/Robotech/st7/kovf1j.html

Childhood memories sometimes recall these things as being much cooler then they were.

I had one of those as a kid too ^_^ .

Loved the little thing; for years I thought valks transformed as this toy did (tailfins sliding into the legs and no moving back rack). Turns out the part with the tailfins is already permanently folded in the toy.

The Henkei Types look ALOT like what I'm remembering... Except for slightly more mangled proportions, more paint apps, more molded details, and less grey plastic. I also don't remember the Milia VF-1J being in such fabulously eyebleeding shades of colour.

But then again, perhaps my memory's more hazy than I thought.

Now if only somebody was hocking the little bastards on eBay by the bulk...
