It simply stuck me as the same kind of humor but a fair bit tamer in my opinion. But you are correct, it's not something you'd want to explain to a 5 year old. Still I'd rate it PG myself, maybe PG-13 at the most. The unedited version of Macross would be rated about the same in my opinion. Sorry again. Looks like the warning as to the content is now here.
