  1. Wait, so Yot-chan bought Nyan-Nyan and made it into a worldwide franchise? what's the source for that?

I sort of assumed Kaifun did it, as he would inherit, whatever his relationship with his owner parents... But I have probably missed something.

As far as I know, the first source is in the liner notes for the "Macross 7 Docking Festival" CD, but it's been repeated in Macross Chronicle as well.

Kaifun apparently ended up producing Fire Bomber American, for what it's worth.

  2. Gubaba, just to let you know, I'm rewatching this as well. I might as well get them all in before Delta airs on a regular basis (not counting the rough 12/30 episode). What episode are you on, and how many episodes are you doing per day?

The write-ups take a long time, so I'm moving somewhat slowly. I'm trying to do one per day to get a good head start on them, but my goal from posting the write-ups is one DVD per week. For the TV series, that means two episodes on Sunday, and two episodes on Wednesday. If I get far enough ahead, I'll increase it.

Lost Two Years is still on my reading list. I just haven't sat down to do any proper reading in a while.

Ah. Hikaru's pad is referred to as military-assigned barracks there. And yes, giant Zentradi do pretty much all construction work.

  3. Naw, it wasn't the show's word choice. They don't say what it is that I noticed. We were talking about Misa's cleaning and I called it an apartment, then immediately corrected to house as his residence(though small) was an independent, freestanding building.I suppose it's even entirely possible it's just really luxurious barracks. Like I said, there's no shortage of freely-available land in the area. You could make the barracks about as sprawling as you wanted.I just... can't really figure out a scenario where rental properties make sense when there's so much land available. And construction costs should be depressed from a surplus of zentradi laborers. I can't imagine a scenario where a large zentradi DOESN'T make construction cheaper.

You should read "The Lost Two Years"...

But, yeah... You're WAY ahead of where I am...

  4. I had been putting off doing a Rewatch because I wanted to do it properly... For a while now, anytime I rewatch a series, I keep track of it on Facebook, putting up a picture and writing a little blurb. I realized that that wouldn't fly for Macross, and doing a real job on it was a pretty daunting task to consider... But I finally went ahead and started.

My goal is to do something akin to Captain JLS's 365 Days of Robotech, or the episode commentary from ourstarblazers.com, but there's no way I can be quite THAT authoritative. Still, it's a start.

  5. Dunno about RW, but that's the single most offensive thing I've ever seen anyone post on these boards.

But there's supposed to be ONE Gundam during the OYW, and it's the one Amuro has. 0080 fudges it by having a new Gundam being tested on a colony. 08th MS Team completely screws with continuity by having mass-produced Gundams. If you add in the mangas and games, there are apparently dozens of Gundams flitting about, which simply doesn't square with the original series/movies.

  6. That's more or less my understanding. Fold travel time is spent in super-dimensional space, not conventional space. Time appears to pass the same in both, with shorter travels in SD space being able to correlate to larger distances in normal space.

Folding in Macross isn't like any of the "conventional" FTL approaches.

Except for A Wrinkle in Time, that is.

However... Folds aren't instantaneous, because of Fold Faults. Which is why Fold Quartz was/is so highly sought after.

  7. well it is physics, but now with fold quartz technology, the ability to travel instanteniously AND go back in time, solves this puzzle... you basically choose the location AND time you want to fold to and do it. (all thanks to fold quartz , which birler wanted to use to meet minmay)

but then you open a new can of worms,... time travel.

And none of this has ever been a Macross topic.

  8. 1. Then if you watch the rest of the UC Gundam that you would know that Newtype didn't become the savior of humanity at all. The Earth Federation sweep the idea of Newtype (NT) under the rug and NT like Amuro Ray was seen as another ace pilot. The idea of NT was more of a Zeon idea, and the White Base crew was used in the second half of the show as decoys. They just slap the title Newtype corp on them to scare the Zeon and hopefully attract more attention to the White Base. During the OYW, nobody truly understand what a Newtype is.

As for the Understanding part. In the world of UC gundam, yes NT can understands each other, but that doesn't stop them from fighting and killing each other now did it? Amuro/Lalah and Haman/Judau/Kamille they understood each other through NT magic, but that didn't stop them from fighting or killing each other. Because they were on different side and circumstances wouldn't allowed it. They were all fighting for something or someone they believed in or loved, so they might understand each other's motivation they still ended up killing each other. That's the point. Understanding alone is not enough to stop wars form happening.

    2. If you don't understand it, then i'm not going to address it either. it's not that important.

    3. If you're that bad tempered, then you need to hit the gym or walk it off. Don't take it out on other people with passive aggressive or aggressive comments. Notice that while we did have a disagreement in the Delta thread, I didn't go after anyone on an individual bases on other threads. We had a disagreement on the show we both like ( I guess you just like it a hell lot more than me) in the Delta thread, so what happened on the Delta thread will stay in the Delta thread. There really is no need to have that spill over and taint other threads in the forum.

I will repeat again. If you got a problem with me, take it to the PM.

    4. I did not know that. So, for that I'm sorry for calling you a potential homophobic.

    1. Yeah... That's the sequels... They get ridiculous after a while...

    3. I'm not, really. And again, I don't think I've attacked you personally. What did I say?

(And, um... If what happens in Delta stays in Delta, you probably shouldn't have brought it up here, right...?)

  9. If you have watched the original Gundam, a show that the original Macross took a lot of inspiration (both story line wise and the real robot aspect of it) from mind you, you would know that those teenagers didn't save the day. The main cast of the show pretty much all of them survived, but the point of the orginal gundam is that war is hell, and the biggest achievement the main characters did was just to be lucky enough to survive the One Year War.

The differences between old Gundam/Macross to the modern one is the transformation of the main character from a teenager to an adult. Modern mecha anime is more about staying true to yourself and tried to change the world with (a bit childish) idealism. But hey, it's just that people wants to feel empower nowadays, so it's just more of a culture change than anything else.

And honestly, you've been coming after me across a couple of threads now. I have no problem with people voicing their opinion, but if you don't back off I might to have to talk with some mods or something. If you got a problem with me personally, we can take it to the PM. Stop it with the passive aggressiveness, and that goes for a couple of your other friends too.

Also, think about changing your title. Nuker of gay? I mean i'm sure it is some kind of a joke, but can you get anymore homophobic than this?

    1. I have watched the original Gundam (many, MANY times, from 1985 onwards), and the main fleet to attack A Baoa Qu was blasted by the Solar Ray. The White Base Crew attacked, cleaned up, and truly became the Newtype Division (and Newtypes, you may remember, are all about UNDERSTANDING...). The impression we're left with at the end of the series (or movies, if that's how you roll), is that they're the future of humanity, and have thus saved EVERYONE.

    2. I'm not sure what your second paragraph is saying. Thus I can't address it.

    3. I'm ornery, I admit it. I don't remember attacking you specifically, though. I've disagreed with you in the Delta thread, but I haven't come after you. Wanzerfan, I went after. Shaloom, I went after. If I went after you, trust me, you'd know it.

    4. You'll have to bring that up with the mods. You'll notice, Reation Warhead: Sharon Apple Concert Attendee, that as you make more posts, your title changes. One of them is "Nuker of gay, unborn baby space whales" and if you post here enough, you'll hit it, too. My mistake was that once I moved into the next bracket, I posted, "Thank goodness I'm no longer a nuker of gay, unborn baby whales anymore." And some wag on the moderating staff hit me with my custom tag. A few members have them, and they're more to be pitied than censured.

  10. Again, the nice thing about Macross (as opposed to, say, Gundam or Star Wars) is that, however much you complain, a rising tide really does lift all boats. New SDF-1s, a huge VF-1... This is all because of Delta.

Maybe you hated the trailer, maybe you won't buy the DVDs or BDs. Maybe you won't buy toys or kits of the VF-31. But with every new Macross series that ISN'T for you, there are products made that you'll love.

  11. This really intrigues me. Now I'm curious about the reasoning behind the various designs. What was the SDF-2 meant to be if it went unused? Was it going to be the original Megaroad? What was the DYRL? style SDF-1 supposed to be? Was it added later to make it match up with DYRL? or was that originally how it was going to look and if so, why the different "arm ships" depicted?

    So many questions...

Well... In-story rationale, as far as I can tell, is that the SDF-2 started construction on the Moon in 2004 as a battleship (i.e. what you see in Perfect Memory). When construction on it resumed, soon after Space War I, it was mostly redesigned to be an emigration ship (i.e. what we saw in FB2012).

As for why the ARMDs instead of the Daedalus and Prometheus, I assume the staff just wanted to do things differently than the TV series.
