  1. So we have...

    Freyja Wion

    Migumo Guynemer

    Kaname Buccaneer

Is it possible to sense any kind of theme with these names yet? I've seen ideas from some of you on individual names but am wondering if there's a group connection.

There's been a discussion about this, and since even Japanese fans are confused as to how to read Miss Guynemer's first name, it might be Chinese: "Mei Yun."
  2. Nice to get a bit more info on the setting. Sounds good so far

I really like Guynemer's character design. There's a shot or two of her in the trailer in non-idol attire. She definitely caught my eye. I hope they give us some more info about the female pilot soon too.

The pronunciation of the katakana in her name is tripping me out though, especially the "NU" character in the middle.

To me, French in katakana always sounds weird...
  3. Yes, but isn't annoying to order from amazon JP?

Only if you're buying something used, since they don't ship used products outside Japan. New stuff is just as easy as domestic Amazon.

Duh! That makes sense. I was just assuming super hyper ultimate boxsets come out first before the individual releases. I didn't even think to check the release dates on the webpage. My mistake.

Don't worry, it's easy to get confused...

  4. Don't know. I got mine from Amiami back when it was first released. I had 2nd thoughts because the price was so high. But, I felt better when I actually received it and saw how nice the entire set was. It has 2 full sized art books not the little handbooks you normally get.

The thing I want to bring up is wouldn't the individual movie releases simply be the same actual Blu-ray disks as the box set? That is to say, wouldn't they also have subtitles if the original box set had subtitles?

No, because the box set came out AFTER the individual movie releases.
  5. In fairness, a lot of what Global does is offscreen. It's strongly implied that he is behind a lot of what goes right, and explicitly stated he's behind the move towards making peace with the zentradi(accepting refugees, making a large production out of Max and Millia's wedding).

And the fold accident wasn't his fault. That was a side effect of the boobytrap(as was the gravity controller failure). That said, he still saved his ship and the city around it from complete destruction. And he WAS sort of ordered to take an undercrewed and untested ship into combat.

Among the things I wish Macross had time for in it's original run, giving Global some development is among them. There's implications he's a lot deeper than the show ever has a chance to show us.

There's a lot about that in the books...

  6. I only ever saw them in episode 5. So are you saying the name was spoken by the characters in episode 6 without actual Variable Fighters appearing? I can't find any part of the subtitles that has "SFV-26" or "Cavaliers" in it.I mean everything from anime, books, figure packaging etc, when were they first named?

Oops, sorry... I meant 5.

I'm pretty sure they were first named by Yamato. Later, they showed up in one of the Master File books.

  7. Thanks, guys! And I'm sorry... I wish I could do them faster. I'm currently a little about ten episodes ahead of the posts. I'd like to get twelve episodes (three weeks) ahead just in case I get busy and need some cushion space. But it generally takes me a couple of hours (at least) to do the write-ups, so speeding through them isn't as easy as I was hoping it would be.

    Anyway, here's Part 4:
