  1. That is because in the 80's, the US Airforce were test using powerloaders. According to a Discovery Channel website I happened across 8 or 9 years ago, The US Airforce were field testing them to see if they were worth the effort. Ultimately, they decided not to mass produce them due to the weight instability. According a military aircraft enthusiat that I trust, the powerloaders from 'Aliens' are those very same test units rented out to 20th Century Fox.
  2. Well, I watched the 1st 3 episodes & bits of the 4th one. It is better than the Mini was. But, it still does not receive the "Chris Miller Seal of Approval". Overall, I find it a little better written than Andromeda. A little less boring than Enterprise. And no where near as good as Farscape & Babylon 5 (& Crusade). The spaceship SFX are Top notch for a TV series. Unfortunately that is the only thing I can appreciate about it. They made enough changes to this show from the original, that they should have made just a few more so that it could stand on it's own without the BSG name. I agree. Certainly they could have newer, more menacing & more realistic looking Cylons that still retained elements of the classic design. These Cylons look like Trade Federation rejects. I still think that they should at least have had the Cylons of the new series be the creation of the reptilian Cylon race like in TOS. I think fans of TOS would have been more receptive to a remake, as long as the general elements & story plots were used, as well as the original cast when possible & appropriate. Just remember boys & girls, the same network that axed TOS now owns SciFi. Also, is just me, or does Six look alot like the blonde replicant for the Batman Animated series episode "Heart Of Steel Part 1 & 2". I wonder if HARDAC is the god for which Six keeps refering to?
  3. I've always felt that smaller mecha like Labors, Armored Troopers & Tactical Armors are just as important as large mecha like Battlemechs, Mobile Suits & Destroids. The advantages of smaller mecha is that they are less of a target & can be transported almost as easily as tanks. Plus they tend to be depicted as having equivilant firepower & armor, but more manuverable & requiring only 1 crewmember compared to tanks of their universe. Larger mecha are obviously bigger targets, but tend to be depicted as being able to deliver much more firepower than a smaller mecha built with the same technology base could have been within that same universe. Case in point: AT-AT vs. AT-ST. Sure the AT-ST is a harder target to hit. But it simply can not deliver the same destructive force as the AT-AT. And yes, the AT-AT is a much easier target to hit, but it also has the extra armor to help offset that balance. Plus, AT-STs protect the flanks of AT-AT groups.
  4. Any news on what MG kits are coming after the Red Rick Dias & Ball ver. Ka. kits?
  5. At what point in Star Wars did the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire fight an race of machines hellbent on the destruction of all organic beings in the universe? It amazes me that people who are unable to think of valid reasons to not like the original BSG always fall back on the "BSG ripped off Star Wars" arguement. All becuase half the SFX people who worked on SW also worked on BSG. If you didn't like the original BSG becuase of hokey dialog, or of the vaguely Christian/Mormon undertones, I can dig that. But to not like BSG because it "ripped off SW" is not just a poor excuse, but a false one as well. I don't remember Adama having a Lightsaber, or being a Force user or using Jedi mind tricks. Sure he had limited teleknesis, but there are many sci-fi & fantasy stories that had characters with such abilities long before SW. Listen, the Mini showed us how a crappy former ST:TNG writer can screw up a moderate sci-fi franchise with lame plot devices, boring, uninteresting & mainly annoying character development & worn out Star Trek cliches. Ronald Moore stated that with this series he wanted to do the 1st realistic sci-fi series. What he failed to realize is that Babylon 5 beat him to the punch 10yrs ago. And if you want to talk about "plain in your face rip-offs", DS9 was a huge rip-off of Babylon 5. The Borg are rip-offs of the Original BSG Cylons, & the Mini is a space-opera rip-off of The Terminator. Hell, thay ripped-off the neural clone plot device from Farscape in the Mini!
  6. I thought the Mini kinda sucked. New Adama an ass kicker? A lame ass more like it. The special FX were awsome, but they rarely had any good medium range shots so that what was happening could be clearly seen. Most action scenes were either close-up reaction shots, or extreme long distance shots. & to the best of my memory the Cylon Baseships were giant Jacks. A more mature Battlestar Galactica? If by that you mean that it is an overly melodramatic Star Trek-ified dumbed down to the lowest common denominator version of BSG? Then yes it is a 'mature' BSG. Don't get me wrong, the original BSG was hokey & silly alot of the time, but it wasn't some lame concoction of recycled & regurgitated plot devices from other sci-fi movies & films. & at least it had 2 main black characters. Other reasons i dislike the Mini... Adama was a lame ass with little leadership ability. 'Apollo' was a whiney little nancy boy. Tigh was a shithead with a drinking problem & even bigger attitude problem. The Cylons, while cool looking, are playing the "I want to be human" card while killing that which they are emulating, as well as being an overused plot device from The Terminator. At least they could have left the machine Cylons as products of the real reptilian Cylons attempt at competing with the human form. I was really wanting to see Reptilian Cylons in action. Anyways, I will give the series a shot & see what develops. But even if it winds up being really good, you guys & gals must realize that Skiffy will most probably yank it before it finishes what ever story it hopes to convey. Never forget what Skiffy did to Farscape. I'm especially concerned since the same network that yanked the original BSG now owns Skiffy.
  7. When I ordered my Deep Striker from HLJ, I also ordered the Teaskforce Alpha Fix from Valkrie-Exchange (Kevin had them for $30). The Alpha has a little looseness in some parts, so I attached the Deep Striker parts to my Alpha, & have my 303 in EXS form. & IT ROCKS! As soon as my wife gets her Xmas present from me, I might have to borrow it to post a few pix.
  8. So far, the current comics are depicting the Stormtroopers as a mixture of Fett clones & conscripted/recuited personnel. To me, that makes the most sense for the same reasons Sundown has pointed out. I like the prequels as much as the OT, but Lucas should make more definative statements/answers to people who ask him these questions. Though I believe the Stormies are a "mixed nuts" sorta army, I can also see bsu legato points just as clearly. & I also understands some peoples' hestitation in bringing the EU material into consideration. But no matter how terrible people think the Prequels are, they are still many times better than the last 4 Star Trek films. stardestroyer.net is a pretty good fan site, but has a not so great message board.
  9. Thanks guys. I went head & used some clear nail polish & it did the trick. I put just a little on the "male part" & in a few minutes it fit nice & snug. It even fits straight. Thanks again for the advise.
  10. I recieved my GFF 13 Deep Striker a week ago. This thing is awsome, but the barrell of the Irish-class beam cannon is a little loose. I'm thinking of applying some claer nail polish to tighten the fit. Is this a safe course of action?
  11. I could have sworn that Newtype Asylum had prototype pics of a MG Marasai. I remember them being posted with prototype pics of the MG Zeong about 6 months before it was released.
  12. By "droop slightly" do you mean like a degree or two? Or like, down to it knees like a 90 year old lady? (no offense to the grandmas & great-grandmas of Macrossworld).
  13. I noticed Hobby Link Japan has been restocked on a lot of older GFF releases. I ordered the GFF 13 Deep Striker S Gundam. To those who already own it, is there anything to be aware of with this figure? The only other GFF I have is the GFF Full Armor Gundam.
  14. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Richie Rich. That show sucked & it was ethically questionable.
  15. I finaly ordered the MG Rick Dias, along with the MG ExS Gundam & the MG Strike Gundam. Now I just have to wait for Best1hobby to get the Rick Dias in stock. I really am looking forward to the MG Hizack.
  16. I've got 2 quick dumb questions: What is the difference between the Subaru WRC & the WRX? & other than 1 is the Japanese version & the other is the U.S. version, what is the difference between the Binaltech & Alternator Transformers?
  17. What did you expect, it is a Cartoon Network cartoon. Duh. Anyways, In episode that was shown this past Saturday, Bruce Campbell was the voice of Magnanimous, the alien promoter for the intergalactic giant robot wrestling federation. Overall, still entertained by this show. More interesting than Gundam Seed at any rate.
  18. That goes for every type of movie, whether it is made with, or without, CG. A little fyi...Star Wars Episode I had more model ships & miniature sets built for it, than for Episodes IV, V, VI combined. SC&WoT looks interesting. I think it will either be a lot fun, or it will really suck. U.S. Army & Airforce dress uniforms are Nazi uniforms made in different colors & without the armbands.
  19. Now I remeber! MTV used to have a cartoon named Downtown, which took place in New York. The main male character had a "scuzzy" friend that looked &, to a certain extent, acted just like Goat in MEGAS. Now, I may be wrong, but I think that character was also named Goat. The animation was also very similar. Downtown's timeslot kept getting moved around & was canceled very sudddenly. This may be why the writers are always playful picking on MTV in MEGAS, which is depicted as POPTV with the POP written in such a way that at a distance it looks like the M in MTV. Assuming, of course, that MEGAS & Downtown have any relation to each other.
  20. I just watched MEGAS XLR on CN, & it was very funny. It has a few anime in jokes in it. In the 1st episode, Coop (the main male character) accidentally fires 1 of the MEGAS' main guns which looks just like the bow of the Space Battleship Yamato. In the 2nd episode shown (which is actually episode 4), Coop & Jamie (Coop's sidekick) put cheese whiz in 1 of the MEGAS' electronic chest components which looks suspicously like the Matrix from Transformers. Overall, a enjoyable tv show. I especially like that MEGAS has oversized girly mudflaps. I also thought it was funny that manual control was Dance Dance Revolution! A question for those who did catch it, isn't Goat (the junkyard dealer) from another cartoon? I swear I've seen that character in a different show, but I can't remember what it might have been.
  21. My favorite sci-fi fighter craft in no particular order... Star Wars A,B,E,Y, & X-wings Babylon 5 E.A. Tiger, Aurora, & Thunderbolt class Starfuries Narn Frazi class heavy fighter Minbari Nial fighter Battlestar Galactica Original Colonial Viper as well as the Vipers from the miniseries. It's just too bad the miniseries was terrible. Colony Wars on PS1 All League Of Free World figters And finally the Gunstar from The Last Starfighter.
  22. I think that society in general, Hollywood specifically, likes to bite the hand that feeds them. The U.S. media conglomerates love to try to scare the crap out of everyone, including themselves. Case in point: every once in awhile, some news broadcast is harping on the dangers of commercial flying. Nevermind the fact that a person is more likely to die in a car accident either going to, or returning from the airport than in the actual flight itself. I'm kind of miffed that they changed the origin of the Cylons for the 'Mini'. I thought it was cool that the Colonials in the original series were NOT dealing with some screw-up of their making. But were dealing with someone else's screw-up. I also thought that could have been explored in possible continuation movies or series. I would've like to see a continuation of the O.S. where the (true) Galactica run into some Organic Cylons. But that didn't seem too likely to begin with. Even less so now. I liked SAAB. I had not realised that they actually had a real ending to the season/series. I'm with Graham, though. I thought it was kind silly that pilots were doubling for GROPOS. It also seemed to suffer from any true ground army scenarios, troops, or equipment. I think there was an episode where they were riding around in an APC that the driver insisted on regarding it as a tank (the vehicle, not the clone slaves). The 'Mini" just seemed like a bad copy of SAAB, Wing Commander, & BSG:OS blended together. I liked the Viper MKII & MKVII & the BAttlestars were OK. I still prefer the original ship designs. If Skiffy (Sci-Fi channel) does turn this into a regular series, you know that they will only screw it up. Skiffy is only interested in quantity, not quality. Just look what happened to Farscape. Even IF the new Battlestar series is really good, Skiffy will only cut it down in the middle of its theoretical prime & replace it with 'Tremors Series: The Next Gerneration' or 'Mad Mad House 2'. Until Bonnie "The Bitch" Hammers gets fired, demoted, or otherwise displaced as the person in charge of Skiffy programming, Skiffy is only good for the syndicated shows it has in its library.
  23. As a Battlestar Galactica mini-series, it sucked. As an (un)original sci-fi story it was OK. The SFX were good. But the story & characters were not interesting at all. I still prefer the original over this "re-imagining", cheesy acting, flaws & all. Also, someone at a different message board pointed out the similarities between the 'Mini' & "In Harms Way".
  24. I also saw it Wed. at 12:01am with a friend. It is such a great movie. Concerning bad theatre manners...whats with people clapping in the middle of the movie? I can tolerate (though I still think it's silly) people clapping at the end of a movie. But in the middle of the movie!? Great Maker! Cut that crap out! I'm trying to watch the movie I spent my hard earned $5 on. And it's not just the "over-enthused" of us doing it either. "Normal" movie goers are doing it also. Atleast they are in my little corner of the universe. I plan on seeing it again with my wife this weekend. And then again with my parents. And then with my friend again. And now that I finished 'The Silmarillion', I need to read 'The Hobbit' & the 'LotR' books. I would also like to see 'The Silmarillion' done as a mini-series. However, I don't think there is any channel that would/could do it without screwing it up. Damn it Uxi, you beat me to it.
  25. Myriad, Would you happen to have chapters 7-10? So far the ones you posted are the best quality I have come across.
