See though.. problem with that? Pre-TOS, the Starfleet logo was not the Enterprise arrowhead logo. Each ship had its own insignia at that point in time, and it wasn't until much later that Starfleet adopted the Enterprise logo as its own. Curious to see how they actually try to connect anything there, but I still can't get over how ugly that ship really is.

There's the hook.. they only make the first half of the pilot free to watch. Think I'm way past caring about this. If it's any good at all, I'll probably just watch it in syndication years down the road.

Meh.. hopefully that date stays solid. I've still got plenty of warehouse time left on the 1/72 Sv-262 kit I ordered, so if this new date works out, I can ship them all with the Hi-Metal VF-1A CF.

So, for all those new to the v.2 fast packs, congrats! Since there's probably at least a few people here who've never used the fast packs before, I figure it might be worth mentioning a few things to be aware of with them. First off, be careful with the paint on the tails. Since the backpack boosters push the tails against the spine of the plane, it's possible for one of the antennas to rub against and wear down the black paint. All of my DYRL VF-1s have a small strip of matte scotch tape applied to that spot to minimize the damage. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also file down the antenna so it doesn't dig into the paint as much. Second, on the more OCD side of things, I do want to drag up an old post I made, with a slight update. A few years back, I was curious about the long term effects of mounting fast packs, and how it bends the tails. (http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33306&hl=%2Bfast+%2Bpack+%2Bfile&fromsearch=1) Since that time, I wound up purchasing a used VF-1J Hikaru with super packs, and I can say with some certainty it was displayed for a long while with the packs mounted, because that tail is definitely bent a little. Not badly, but it's noticeable if you look for it. Before anyone panics, no, this really isn't any kind of serious issue. I've never once heard of anyone's tail breaking, and the bending is minor. This is really just a fix for people who get bugged by slight misalignments. A pretty easy fix is mentioned in the post, but it's fairly destructive to the boosters, since you have to file a chunk out of them to give the tail room to sit properly. It does have other benefits as well though. Making room for the tail to nest into the bottom of the left booster can help it sit more in-line with the right one, and it also can relieve a little of the pressure on the tail from that spine antenna, which might help protect the paint on the left tail. To reiterate though, no, I'm not recommending everyone start filing chunks out of their boosters. Main takeaway is just to be aware of how you attach your boosters, and be aware of whether that spine antenna is rubbing on the tail. Third, and unrelated to the backpack, I remember some folks having trouble removing the arm packs. I think one of the locking pegs on the arms is supposed to be angled to let the tab slip over it, so if rocking the pack one direction doesn't work, try rocking the other way. If it still doesn't want to come off, you can try lifting one of the tabs with a straight pin.

Macross Δ (Delta) - Mission 22 - READ 1st POST
Chronocidal replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeeeeah... really no coherence to how anything is happening at this point. I mean, I would have assumed the absolute best case for the Hayate var thing is we wind up with him hulking out every time Freyja sings, with Mirage playing the Black Widow part to calm him down at the end, but this is like "Suddenly, by the power of magical mental threesomes, I now have the power to completely ignore that serious plot complication!" As if he has ever had any sort of control of it in the first place... This one even went one worse, since suddenly, instead of just becoming superhuman, he went completely bonkers for no discernible reason. What happened? Not to mention the whole "Oh.. how'd we get out of prison?" bit. The writers seem to have developed an uncontrollable fetish for leaving serious issues completely unresolved with no explanation. Are they just repeatedly writing themselves into corners they can't get out of, or are they so desperate for padding to fill in the plot with that they're just throwing plot threads at the wall like spaghetti and hoping something sticks? Honestly, know what I'm hoping for at this point? I want to see someone pick this up and make an abridged series out of it. Not as a parody, but as an actual re-write to give it some coherence. Just take the base plot, and rearrange the visuals and dialogue to make a smaller picture without so many missing pieces. -
Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
Chronocidal replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
Why do I feel like these kits have better proportions than the 1/72 ones? The transforming kit of the 31 feels like the nose is sitting too high, but this one looks like it just has a better profile. -
Honestly, I want to rip out the outer panel of the leg, throw some F-16-styled gear into it to fold out diagonally, and say good riddance to the existing ones.

Given how badly I've seen Bandai's white plastic yellow in the past, I have to admit, I'm perfectly okay with the gray color of the Focker 1S.
-
See, I'd be all for that kind of thing happening in the series, just so something interesting happened for her character. Plot-wise though, I've wanted her to start singing from the start.
-
Honestly, for the cost? Might be easier picking up a vintage broken shoulder Focker 1S, a Max 1A, then perform a little part swapping surgery. Might actually wind up cheaper if you can get a good deal on the Focker. Still need to replace the arrows on the head with blue ones, but that's a pretty minor detail. If I can find a good deal on another Max 1A, I might do that myself.

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)

Oh, I was actually referring to the windows across the entire ship, more of a, "I guess people just don't like looking outside" angle.- 466 replies

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Chronocidal replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The original Enterprise was sized roughly the same as the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier in length, about 400 crew (which I think was only 250 in the pilots episodes?), and I think had between 10-12 decks or so.. this one has that many decks in the saucer alone. And yet, it somehow has the same rough number of windows....- 466 replies

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Chronocidal replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
All of the new variations are still insanely huge, and still cling to the old prime universe refit design cues, even if they mean absolutely nothing in this scale. It is funny though, for all the times I've heard people ask why the original refit Connie's pylons tapered the way they did, I never really considered how terrible it would actually look if they were tapered the other way. I dunno. I seriously think both Star Trek and Wars need to get to work hiring some people with some clue as to how to develop ships that actually have appealing designs, because both universes seem to be struggling with that these days.- 466 replies

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Chronocidal replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So, just out of curiosity, I checked the scale on the old figure-scaled A-wing.. the pilot in that looks about the same scale as the filming model, just based on how big the pilot's head is compared to the canopy... According to that, assuming a 6 foot pilot, the A-wing is only 20 feet long. That would make an actual 1/72 scale kit only 3 and 1/3 inches long. I can see why they bumped up the size on it. Which.. going by the 20 foot length estimate... actually makes the "1/72" A-wing kit about 1/45th. -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

I'm kinda perfectly okay with that, if it means we get some decent updated releases of stuff like the large X-wing mold. I'm waiting for them to rework the wings to not sag horribly. Though it's not like I have room for more X-wings anyway.. Until someone else comes up with something better though, I'm probably going to remember that new tie as the "Tie Flappy Bird." -
Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Chronocidal replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not sure if current gen fighters can even begin to approach exactly how stealthy and low-drag/fast the YF-23 was. The F-35 certainly can't, in any case. -
Eh, while snap-in windows for the frames would be great, I think the 1/72 kits are unfortunately a little too small to pull that off well. The plastic thickness would probably be an issue. They did it nicely with the 1/48 X-wing, but sadly that seems like a one-off.. and I was so incredibly hopeful they'd release one without all the mechanical gizmos and lighting. I have to admit though, I really do appreciate the frame-only windows (dust problems notwithstanding ). I know it's mostly to replicate the filming models, but I love the look for some reason. You'll probably be happy to hear that they did give the A-wing kit a clear canopy with a snap on frame though. I think the A-wing might be the only ship they gave actual windows to in the movies, since you can't do a bubble canopy so well with just a frame.

Is that picture printed on some sort of bent cardboard or something? Because, seriously, it looks like the wings are angled upwards. The whole thing looks like it's curled up in the middle, as if someone sat on it.

Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.

Mmmm boxes of HLJ modeley goodness. No pics handy, but just got my second 1/48 Super/Strike VF-1A/S kit, along with two of the weapons sets. Most amusing part? After a bit of parts clipping and tree trimming, all the pieces from both the Valk and both weapons sets fit into 4 sandwich bags, and got put in one of the standard 1/48th VF-1 kit boxes. That Strike Valk box is beautiful, but man is it huge. If you start running out of room, you can do the same with the VF-25 kits. You can fit the base VF-25 kit in a 1 quart ziplock bag, the armor or super parts will fit in another. My armored Ozma kit box has like 8 VF-25s in it now. -
I've got no problem double (or even triple) dipping on this design, I plan on getting all of them if I can. Having the Bandai kit is just a nice backup for the worst case scenario of Bandai producing nowhere near enough of the DXs.
-
Between the ship being covered with greeblies to high heaven, and Bandai doing an awesome job hiding most of the significant seams between parts, I love how you can pretty much paint the Y-Wing entirely before ever putting it together.
-
Yikes, November? I don't know which is more surprising, the fact that they're not doing the 31 first, or the fact that the Hasegawa kits are going to beat any of the DX releases by a month. Either way, sign me up! I do hope it comes with optional wing panels to do the CF versions though, I don't think there are any other significant external differences.

I want to guess yes? But the Millia is a customized Votoms figure, if I remember correctly.

I've kinda just been reading the spoilers to see if anything interesting happens each week. -
Already out, it's been in my HLJ warehouse for about a week now, but I'm holding off shipping it until I can ship it together with the Tomy-Tech kits I have ordered.
