  1. I am wondering how hard it would be to code the three robot laws into the AI. I mean the worst that can happen is that the AIed Ghosts sacrifice themselves. May be a built in kill switch or something. Overall, I'd rather like the idea of Ghosts running on AI, I wonder though if the Ghosts we saw on Ep 1 were really on AI or were they actually UCAVs. Seem like the latter, since their signals were interfered with.

Well, I reckon you can't really program the three laws into a Ghost seeing as it's a weapon that chances are will have to eventually be used against humans and/or zentraedi.

Also, the term UAV (and therefore UCAV) covers both unmanned craft controlled either by remote or by AI/programming (in fact modern thinking in UAVs prefers the latter).

And interference would affect even AI since they basically wouldn't be able to send data back to the fleet (of course the jamming used by the Vajra also disabled the Ghosts, indicating some form of EMP).

  2. Could it be that the latest technology and the whole fleet is of Macross Galaxy could have been sponsored by General Galaxy?

I've read in other forums where not only did they speculate this, but also that S.M.S. may stand for Shinsei Military Services (instead of Speed Miracle Spacy as stated in the S.M.S. Song) and further extrapolated to the VF-27 being by Galaxy and the VF-25 being by Shinsei (which contradicts what we know, since its been stated that the VF-25 is by L.A.I.).

  3. Hmm…….OK, just checked the Animation Note thread.

I wonder are those Galaxy & Frontier logos considered final, or are they just rough drafts?

And do we see that Galaxy logo anywhere on the VF-27?

Screen capture anybody? Can’t check now as I’m at work.

I think someone already did a comparison in the episode 7 thread. It's breifly seen on the nose of the plane right before it cuts to the cockpit view with Brera.

  4. 第11話:ミッシング・バースデー(Missing Birthday)、2008.06.12

Ranka is preparing birthday gift for Alto's approaching birthday, but he received an invitation from Sheryl.

    第12話:ファステスト・デリバリー(Fastest Delivery)、2008.06.19

It is because Sheryl is holding a consolation concert that she is at Planet Galia 4(惑星ガリア4).

But due to she being ill, the concert had to be cancelled. This caused a huge riot.

    第13話:トワイライト・プラネット(Twilight Planet)、2008.06.26

Alto and Ranka made an emergency landing in Galia 4 by a glitch of VF.

Through extended chat, they grew a liking of each other.

    p.s.

    Official promotion:

A Super Galaxy Love Story in which love, friendship and destiny of the planet intersects.

    Is it Planet Galia 4??

    and...

    Alto and Ranka will....

    dang!!!

Finally, some planetside action, hopefully we get to see a dogfight while in the atmosphere.

  5. My feeling is that it's not quite a BDI system of olde. I've pondered this with Mr. March and I do get a sense that our VF-27 pilot may have cybernetic implants. And I'm thinking more along the lines of Ghost in the Shell cyber brain-style implants.

Instead of transmitting signals to the brain or interpreting brainwaves (which can be bad as we saw when Guld thought about pushing Isamu's face into the dirt), it might be reading nerve signals. If I move my arm, my brain sends signals throughout my nervous system to contract or extend muscles which move my arm. Thinking about moving my arm becomes separate from the actual act of doing it.

A bit OT but all this discussion about implants and BDI reminded me of something I read about a new game controller that runs by reading thoughts.

Although in this case, the system seems to read brainwaves based on certain motions (moving hands, facial expressions, etc.) and not thoughts like the BDI in the YF-21.

  6. While Sheryl is supremely confident, the twist to her character comes from the fact that she's appealing even when she succeeds! Despite the sheer stupidity of jumping off the school roof, there was something utterly charming in her expression as she caught those panties. She set her mind on it, and she got it, regardless of the cost or how silly she looked. The reason: her confidence doesn't come from what other people think; it comes from her own belief in herself. And that's something that I can respect.

I think this is something that sets her apart from most typical characters in most anime. Most of the time, such confidence is made to be superficial, especially when it seems to come of as a bit arrogant. Makes me wonder if some anime viewers have been conditioned to that type of characterization and as a result tesnd to dilsike Sheryl.

If anything actually, Sheryl reminds me of Basara except maybe not as arrogant/insensitive as him.

  7. i'm guessing since it's a comprehensive/holistic kind of school, they have common classes together. maybe english, like you suggested. but most likely, homeroom class. then they're free to take the electives they want to specialize, but they have to go though a core curriculum nonetheless.

funny just how they all turned up to be in the same grade level. even sheryl.

and btw, the last scene reminded me of eva. asuka strikes!! :)

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that Mihoshi allowed a greater degree of freedom as compared to real world school systems?

  8. I just saw the sub for episode 8, and I loved it (animation and all)! I like the way Ranka has to struggle and faces defeat and disapointment. Unlike Minmay, Ranka loses the Miss Macross contest, and it looks like her road to fame will not come quite as easy as our original Miss Macross. Personally, I like Ranka better than Ms. Nome and hopes she does not end up with Alto (who seems to have fallen into the self-absorbed jerk mold, that has plaged the Macross universe from the start).

He can't help it, he's just written that way! I like the way the "Ranka Lee fan club" is looking out for her, and the shower confrontation scene was priceless; they really seem to have her back, unlike Alto who appears to care less. I also thought

the ending scene with our mysterious pilot was cool. I could be wrong, but I think he might be Ranka's real life brother or

long lost boyfriend (I think brother is more plausable given her young age). Finally, for weeks I have been trying to figure out why I don't like Ms. Nome and it finally hit me while watching this episode: she acts too much like Asuka from Evangelion! AND I DON'T LIKE ASUKA FROM EVANGELION!! But other than that, I ENJOYED THIS EPISODE MORE THAN

    EPISODE 7 (GO FIGURE)! B))

I dunno, Asuka was more of a spoiled brat trying to cover up her issues with arrogance, while Sheryl may seem arrogant at times, she comes off more as mature, confident, comeptitive, driven yet at the same time playful character.

  9. Indeed, the re-release date made me got it all wrong. I found it in the timeline at September 2046

EDIT: this is an even stranger thing:

    2016 July

Les communications du Megaroad-01 cessent près du centre de la Voie lactée. (Les informations sur ce vaisseau ne sont pas publiées, il se serait approché d’un trou noir d’où aurait été émis de la musique).

Communication from Megaroad01 ceased while it was near the center of the milky way. (It's not announced to general public but it is believed he would have come close to a black hole from where music was heard).

Music in a black hole ? lol

Hmm, might be superdimensional purple crystal things at work here.

  10. In a discussion on another board I suggested the possibility that the VF-27 cockpit could be either a full holographic environment or a cyberspace like system for the pilot. After watching Grace working within her cyberspace vision in episode 8, I'm more and more convinced Brera Stern is doing the same thing with his VF-27. If his funky purple eyes work in ways similar the Grace's funky purple eyes then he pilots the VF-27 via his virtual reality interface. He may even use conventional controls, but he just sees everything in virtual reality. Any thoughts?

That's definitely an interesting possibility. In fact, I'm gonna add a bit more by asking, is he even working the controls or is it all in his head (I don't working any visible controls in ep. 7)? Could cybernetic implants have made the BDI from the YF-22 a working possibility without the risk of feedback from the system?

  11. Why did Alto have to use the Super Pack as a decoy for the incoming Vajra missile thingies. I mean it was already established way back in Macross Plus that chaff can be used. Probabaly because those were alien missles, perhaps?

It seems to be tradition of sorts, I think it's been done in other series as well. I haven't watched Zero lately, but I recall Shin dumping the improvised "super pack" they built using QF-2001 Ghosts to avoid some missiles.

  12. Speaking of the Armoured Pack, I'm really amazed at the way it fought in episode 7, I mean it was heavyily loaded so it should'nt be able to outrun Alto in his VF-25 with Super Pack, but it did. What's the deal here?

I believe it as already mentioned somewhere that the packs have enough thrusters to enable a fully armored VF-25 to move like a stripped down one. The rest is simply Ozma's skill.
