  1. This goes back to the question of whether or not skull squadron is just 4 planes or not. Sniper/specialized sharpshooter make perfect sense in combat situations, but the ratio shouldn't be 1 sniper to 1 or 2 combat valks.

Mr. March, I agree that in battle fields, there are specialized roles. I just wonder how useful a sharpshooting role truly is in fighter combat, I can see AWACS role. May be an analogy would be that Mikhail would be running an F-14 loaded with Phoenix missiles, and the others would be running F-15/F-16 superiority/dogfighters. But if you mix squadrons like that, you would have better ratios right? If I think about a squad of soldiers, you wouldn't have one sniper to one direct combat guy in that ratio, probably more like one or two snipers to about eight or so close combat. Or may be think about it in terms of MLRS units vs tanks in terms of ratio.

I think it would be safe to assume that the "specialized" valks can still perform well in a dogfight and are thus armed with the requisite amount of mcro-missiles and whatnot. In the training ep (episode 4) we see them go 3 vs 3 against the Pixies I think it's safe to assume that while Alto was chasing down Nene, the other two were similarly engaged.

Now as for melee, well you know what they say about knives...

  2. LOL you guys are funny. :) Nah, there's no formal setup or chain-of-command. ^_^ Just a sort of fan club. Speaking of which, here's some new pics. :D

Yes, we aren't like some other clubs that need hierarchies and acronyms to prove that they're cool.

The last pic is EXACTLY where Michel/Mikael needs to be after episode 9. :p Such a temper.

I'm loving the interaction between Klan and Mikhail more and more.

IMO the tension between them is similar enough to Max-x-Miriya from Macross 7 (IMO one of the good things about that series) but different enough that its unique to them as characters in Macross.

  3. I had the impression that he was never star-struck with Sheryl because he's seen better looking people... such as himself.

    Alto is GAR for Alto?

Why? Basara kept his hair fart when he played Hikaru in M7...

Actually if he did, imagine the fallout from his father!!!

In hollywood he would and it would be a symbolic break from his Kabuki roots and an acceptance of his new life as a pilot, but this aint hollywould...

Besides, I'm sure his fans are big admirers of his long, lustrous hair.

Heck, since his dad has all but diswoned him, he's probably been supporting himself by secretly doing shampoo adds.

  4. Valkyries have emoted before. It happened a bunch of times in SDF Macross. In DYRL, Hikaru's Skull 1 salutes the bridge before heading out to Boldoza. In Macross Plus, the YF-19 does a "don't blame me" shrug after hitting a friendly target with paint rounds. And there were a few times that VF-11MAXL pranced around like a school girl during Macross 7.

Actually it was more like Isamu making it look like it was blowing the smoke from the barrel of his gun like the cocky bastard that he is.

    Now I'm curious: is there a VF26????

I'm still of the opinon that Kawamori is following Mikoyan tradition and has been naming fighters with odd numbers ever since the VF-11 (even the Vf-22 originally came from the YF-21).

  5. A part of me wonders if the automated fold system aboard the Macross used a form of omni-directional barrier before it folded?

With the new series showing the fold as a portal as opposed to an event, is it not possible that the city on South Ataria island was scooped out by a barrier?

The crew wouldn't know about the omni barrier since the fold system was lost after they re-emerged in normal space. They later constructed one with the remnants of the fold system, which makes me wonder if the the barrier was somehow originally integrated into the system by the PC and only used in extreme emergencies like we saw in M7 and VF-X2...?

Maybe the folds used in Frontier and previous series are different. With the new system, it seems that dragging along extra mass (such as a whole island) is less likely since you move through the "portal" created by the fold.

  6. so disappointed in the vf-27, it seems way more advanced than vf-25, but it turns out that 25 is a better fighter overall, just like yf-19 and yf-21, maybe it is because the vf-27 pilot sucks anyway, perhaps he has a "seed" function to make him more powerful? why does the alien chick fight like a newtype? and what fighter does the sniper's sister flight in the flashback?

Just because it has more tech doesn't mean it's a better fighter overall. Just like with the Super Nova VFs. While the YF-21 was the one that had more tech, the YF-19 quickly caught up and even overtook it in numbers.

As for the VF-25 and VF-27, it could simply be the case of two different companies achieving the same overall perfromance goals through different means.

besides, this is Macross and MAcross has enver had a tradition of new mecha dominating simply due to technological superiority.

  7. Keep watching. All but the most ardent Macross 7 fans will tell you that the first twelve or thirteen episodes are a little tough to get through. It DOES get better after that, but you may not notice it at first...and yes, it remains pretty goofy throughout, which may or may not be a turn-off for you. A lot of the series is just flat-out awesome IMHO, though.

And unfortunately, there are no real Max'n'Milia episodes. Milia has some very good scenes about a quarter of the way through the series, and Max really comes into his own towards the end, but that's about it.

There are a few Max'n'Milia gems hidden throughout the series.

Despite being divorced, it's heavily implied that they still both have feelings for each other and that they only separated due to their jobs. Actually, their interactions are one of the high points of the series IMO.

  8. Well, I use to work in the defense industry. The working language is in acronyms. So they come pretty easy for me, just have to think logically. For Example:

KUM KUM = Klan's Ubiquitous Mammaries Keep Us Mesmerized

SLU* FAIRIES = Sheryl's League of United Touring Fans Across Intergalactic Regions and In Existential Space

    and you know already about...

PERVERT = Public Ensemble who Ruminate Vigorously the Enterprise of Ranka's Talents.

    and of course

    BOING HER HARD B))

Gubaba: sorry, I did not know that you are the founder of BOING. Then it is your prerogative and the other chairpersons to organize the board membership as you see fit.

    Dante: nice avatar!

    I'd like to add:

KAWAII - Klan Appreciation and Worship Association International Inc.

SCUMM - Stop Cathy from Ultimately Making out with that Mushroom-head

PANTIES - Princess Alto's Noble Teammates Interested in his Enslavement by Sheryl

GAR - Gay After watching Robert "Bobby" Margot *I know, that's pushing it*

and of course F**K, the last two letter of which are Chibi-Klan.

  9. One thing though... what was going on with Sheryl in SMS gear? And on a tv commercial no less? I know she enrolled in the pilot program, but I'm getting a very weird idea in my head... are they going to try and make a tv series for her based off of real life stuff where she fights the vajra? Or will it be something like a movie? Besides the obvious problems of SMS and publicity, what the heck is going on?

Ozma's dream of an S.M.S. version of Sound Force is one step closer to reality.

  10. Ep. 9 should have a few answers in terms of access to macro/miclonization.

On the topic of Zent "waste products" I've been wondering what happens to such items when one gets micloned. Does it all get micloned as well, or does the process simply eliminate it for you?

  11. Back to Macross, here's how fold is described according to the Macross Compendium:

    http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Fold

Makes you wonder though since the more recent series seem to have disregarded the whole time thing altogether. Fold communication makes things even more confusing since we see some examples of 2-way fold communication occurring in real time.

Unless off course the initial fold Misa and co. experienced in SDFM was a super long range fold while the folds we've seen in more recent series are relatively short.
