  1. There's supposed to be some 2 thousand Bodol-style fleets. There's possibly 400 billion stars in the Milky Way. This ignores interstellar space, which increases the volume that needs to be monitored massively.

And police work is easy. You KNOW where you're looking.

Since no one ever showed up to clean up Bodolzaa's mess, we can assume he didn't tell the others what was going on. The zentradi high command, or whatever, doesn't even know anyone's alive this far out in the middle of nowhere. So odds are pretty good that nobody's looking for a human colony fleet.

Even if they WERE looking... they knew what heading the ASS-1 left on and it STILL took them a decade to find it.

With nothing more to go on than "Humans are in space. They suck." any encounters will be random chance.

"Needle in a haystack" doesn't even begin to cover the difficulty of finding something by pure chance.

Makes you wonder though, how much territory have the Macross fleets actually covered and colonized?

  2. i'm a big fan of the monster and its big guns, and the KM definitely put up a good show in ep7.

i have to wonder though at the logic of portraying the KM as having more firepower than an escort ship (the Dulfim seems to be at least destroyer-class) as is implied when:

    - the Dulfim seems to have been defending itself poorly and the KM almost single-handedly bailed them out

    - Dulfim crew were asked to brace for the shockwave, implying they themselves don't have any armaments of the KMs caliber

so one has to wonder why escort ships wouldn't pack the same or bigger guns than a KM, and more of them.

    could it be that:

    - the Dulfim does have big guns but were disabled/destroyed in prolonged combat by the time the KM arrived

    - escort ships do pack big guns and use them but don't get much airtime

in ground-based tactical assault scenarios, the KM makes sense. they can project a lot of firepower where the big ships can't get too or perhaps would be overkill. in realworld military, KMs would be the equivalent of a combined artillery and MLRS unit for when the engagement is too far inland for naval bombardment to reach or when the situation is fluid and requires a tactical approach. but in a space battle, i would expect the big ships to have the biggest guns in play.

for that matter, why have cheyenne/tomahawk destroids on deck (in foxholes) and exposing human lives, when one could have battery emplacements operated from below deck under better armor?

i'm not ranting here, just genuinely curious as to the logic of these things in the macross setting.

I think it would be safe to assume that the Dulfilm is pretty heavily damaged at this point and isn't up to full fighting capacity. Meanwhile, Rabbit 1 is also possibly packing guided reaction shells (judging by the fact that they changed trajectory) and reaction missiles for maximum effect.

Dunno about the destroids though, they're possibly meant more as an homage to previous Macross shows.

  3. Wow! That's really interesting - and so logical. So when gas/air is heated to a plasma state...then...then what? What is a "plasma state?" exactly and ...what does the heating of gas and air have to do with thermonuclear reactions? (thermo means like..temperature/heat... nuclear...nuclea... nucleons? ... is plasma have something to do with nucleons?)

Sorry for asking what is probably a schoolyard level question - But I have no where near the expertise of an engineer :) and yet it sounds to interesting....

Does this mean that the Valkyrie only needs an atmosphere to fly in, and never needs to refeul? It's enough that there is gas/air going in?

And then what does it run on in space?

    VFTF1

Plasma is ionized gas, in other words some of its electrons are free of the atom. AFAIK it's probably the most common state of matter in our universe.

And yes, it means that in an atmosphere, a Valk can theoretically fly forever.

  4. This sounds like an interesting episode, can't wait to see it. A couple of quick points, one thing I notice more and more about Kawamori's designs on VFs, the nose of all the VF are highly reminiscent of the SU-27 nose design, I wonder if Kawamori is a fan. It's the case for the -17, the -25, and the -27.

I definitely think he's a fan of Russian aircraft design, another notable point is that, with a few exceptions (the VF-22, which, even then was based on the YF-21), most of the fighters since Macross Plus are odd numbered which is similar to how MiG numbers its aircraft.

  5. Pretty sure a PAL PS3 won't support a NTSC/Region A game...my US PS3 won't play a region free PAL DVD...even when hooked up via HDMI(my other reg DVD player does).

Actually, PS3s can switch resolutions depending on the game. I made the mistake of ordering DMC4 PAL version for my NTSC-J PS3, when I loaded it up, it palyed the game in PAL resolution. Same thing happened with a friends PAL PS3, where he booted up NBA 2k8 and it loaded in NTSC.

And I wonder, if it does indeed have Macross, Southern Cross and MOSPEADA characters (or any of the three) if it will be changed to Robotech characters for the the English release... infact they might not be able to have Macross characters in the Japanese version, but include them a english language exclusvie characters under the Robotech brand... that would be interesting.

That is if it will even get ported stateside. I've a feeling this one is staying in Japan.

    Also, more screenshots.

  6. Now while my Nihongo is rustier than an old Lancia that's been dunked into the ocean. I believe that first line in that post reads as "Kuran Kuran desu. Mishieru no kanojo desu." or "This is Klan Klan, Michel's girlfriend!"

P.S. I am soo using that image as my avatar!

  7. whew! thanks bro, i needed that! :)

as for ASS-1, actually, myanmar has it now. it wasn't a cyclone. and that's why the myanmar government refuses to let rescue workers in, coz they might see it. :)

(that being said, if anyone is from myanmar, i am not taking your plight lightly. I pray for the country's quick recovery, and the welfare of all affected citizens).

Really, I thought it hit in the middle of the Indian Ocean a few years back causing that Tsunami?

  8. I still think a well done PC game would be even better. Graphics just as nice, assuming you've got a good enough PC, and I'd get to break out my underused flight stick and get more of an "in the cockpit" feel.

    Man, I miss flight sims.

Unfortunately, PC gaming in Japan is seemingly limited to doujin soft and dating sims.

Maybe if we're lucky, they'll bring out a custom flight stick controller for wherever it comes out (if console, then PS3 please so importing is easy) where you can simply flip the throttle to vertical to transform into Gerwalk and Battroid modes.

  9. Well the back piece and wings are sort of like a backpack. There is definetly some type of booster in there because you can see exaust from that area in gerwalk in episode 2 after Alto saves Ranka (the shot that infamously shows the VF-25 with arms after they were blown off).

I think by now we've noticed the trend for the latest VFs where their wings no longer stow away neatly at the back (with the exception of the VF-19) and instead now protrude from the back. For the VF-25, this seems to be to allows its super packs which are now mounted alongside the fuselage (similar to how the VF-4s engines/arms/legs were mounted) to be behind it in battroid mode, ditto for the "VF-27" but this time for the 2 extra engine on the wings (which I suspect also house its internal fold boosters).

  10. He was appointed Commader of the UN Spacy in 2016 after that nothing is mentioned. If he is still around he might still be doing political and military work.

Maybe he retired and joined his old pal Exsedol in some tropical planet that Mac 7 colonized where they spend their days in the sun, looking at girls in bikinis.

  11. I have a problem with the flightsuit though. You'd think it would be body-fitting enuff to offer some support, but the bounciness is too exagerrated.

I think it's designed to her exact specification so that it fits like a second skin, literally.

She could possibly prefer it that way to either taunt Mikhail or more possibly remind her of her mature femininity as compared to her miclone form.

  12. Anyways if events in Macross were to happen the same as ours would'nt it explain the retirement of the F-14's of the U.S. Navy.

If the events were to happen then for all we know somewhere in the Pacific the F-14 (modied into the F-14 Kai) could be in service with the U.N. Forces, battling the MiGs of the Anti-U.N.

If anything, the closest Macross has gotten to a retcon is Zero though it doesn't really change much.

  13. how's is ranka lee 1/4 zentradi? one of her grandparents were zentradi? how does a human mate with a zentradi...

any other interesting tidbits about the sci fi in macross would be much appreciated :)

Back in the day, we used to find out the answers to these questions by going to our favorite video store and checking out the "special titles" in the back.

  14. had the Macross fallen in 1999, I'd sell all my posessions and move to South Ataria Island...either that or dig a really deep hole and stock a shelter for what I knew was going to happen in the next year.

Had the ASS-1 fallen in 1999, I'd have grown my hair, dyed it blue and changed my name to Maximillian Jenius, this way I know I'll be shacking it up with a fine looking green haired meltran ace in a couple of years.

  15. I agree with you on the CG, but most likely if from Japan, it will be either PS3 or Wii as they are made by Japanese companies (Son and Nintendo respectively), but Xbox 360 is from Microsoft. However to tell you the truth I think they could do well with a Wii game. Wii has done very well and its control innovations have made game play radically different and interesting. A system where you pilot a valkyrie with the Wiimote and Nunchuck as if they were the flight controls might be kind of cool. I've seen in the show transforming the VF seems to be done by toggling the throttle stick into either an upright or sideways position depending on what mode your going to, that motion with a button combination (so your not accidentally transforming when moving the controller sideways without noticing) would be be interesting I think. Granted any game on the PS3 will have the advantage of better graphics, so much like is the case with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed each version has it's high points, good graphics for PS3 and innovative but fun control system for Wii.

Now my reasoning for thinking of a good way to make a game for the Wii is a bit biased as I am indeed a Wii user. It totally rocks. ^_^

Personally, I'd love to see it on the PS3 using an upgraded (graphically) version of the engine used by AM2 for the PS2 SDFM game. Of course, I can be a bit biased since I have a PS3.

But a Wii game would be fine as well (I've got one too).

  16. I have a T-Mobile Nokia 6133. Anyone know if they'll work with it?

I dunno, but I think all newer Nokia's can use mp3's as ringtones (at least every phone I've had in the past few years - 7610, 6680, and my current 5310 ).

    EDIT:

Whoops, did some research, it seems that the 6133 can't use MP3s as ringtones. Looks like you'll have to convert them to .WAV or .AAC files.
