  1. Hmm... Am I the only one who didn't like the movie all that much? The whole act of the characters just had too much bravado to them... They all acted as if they are gods among men with huge overactive ego issues. PPL just don't act like that IRL. Unless you are psychoticaly narcissistic. They're grown men with the mentality of teenagers that act as if theyre invincible...

I dunno about the rest of you guys but that is not an appealing protagonist IMO. Face IMO was the most annoying of the entire lot... very superficial and vapid as they come. LOL Tony Stark in iron man was more likable than him, at least he had some sense of urgency and takes things seriously when they need to be. I just hope the actor IRL isn't as annoying as the character he played...

The movie did had some cheap humor in it but it wasnt all that funny... The action scenes were a little too over the top IMO. So much so that the movie losses credibility in some ways.

The one thing that bothered me most were the villains though... They seemed just as moronic and stupid as the protagonists they were up against... If the stakes of losing are that high in the conflict. You'd think they would have gunned them down immediately when they had the chance and not screw themselves over. The whole villain dialog thing was just lame... and overused...

The plot was lame too... cmon would ne one really care if some douche bags got away with a few money printing presses to risk their ass and career over it? Most ppl even in the militray wouldn't give a damn about that. Besides the bankers and the fed are already devalueing the U.S currency as we speak. With all the printing that they're doing with the bailouts the money is gonna be worthless ne way.

This movie is another forgettable summer flick that will go down in the anals of movie history. If they do decide to make a sequel, I ain't watching it.

  2. What most fans (particularly young ones) don't understand is what constitutes "good animation". Too many take thin lines and defined or sharp edges as quality animation. That's just paintwork on a computer. There's more to animation than just how "pretty it looks". Camera angles, action sequence, choreography, animation fluidity, attention to detail, etc. - many other factors should be factored in before one opines about "dated animation" as if to signify 'low quality'.

Most of the quality animation titles from the 1980's generally come from theatrical versions and direct-to-video OAVs. The reason why they had such fantastic quality was not only budget but also time. Production of TV anime series were/are particularly very rushed. Those with bigger staff could do more with the alotted time but those with smaller staff had to do more work at a faster pace. I remember hearing stories about how some episodes of Macross TV were being worked on to the last minute and staffers literally running to make the scheduled broadcast.

I totally agree with you on the whole animation part. In general many 70's and 80's anime productions were in IMO much better than what we see and get today from the industry as a whole. The most memorable and unforgettable moment's I can recall are all from older 70's and 80's productions. There are still some good modern shows out there but they are very rare and most don't catch my attention like the older shows did. Nothing seems original anymore. Everyone seems to be making the same kind of shows with a slightly varied plot and setting.

I can name a few, mainly one piece, bleach and naruto... They're all popular because of the media attention they are given, but that doesn't mean they are great shows like so many younger ppl make em out to be. If you really think about it they bring nothing new to the table. It's dragonball Z all over again where the only point of the show seems to be how they can overcome the next more powerful or skilled opponent... They're all long and drawn out too, the same way DBZ was with hundreds of episode's and dozens of movies. So much so that the plot or setting becomes irrelevant and pointless.

Still I can forgive DBZ because it had a good plot and was very entertaining to watch. It was also more original than the copycats of today's industry.

  3. Wow I can feel the love in this thread... /sarcasm.

NE way Japan seems like a great place to visit and spend a vacation but I dunno about actually living there from a day to day basis. It's true that there is a lot of prejudice in the region but that stems more from their own history and lack of ethnic diversity than ne thing else. Still atm its a lot less dangerous in japan on the street's than it is in most other countries.

The japanese may not like "foreigners" much but at least they're not outright hostile and abusive toward's them. Unfortunately that is something that may never go away in japan but you have to take the good with the bad. They have some cool stuff over there but they're still just ppl. Still its unrealistic and foolish to make the assumption that japan is a utopian society compared to ne where else in the world.

I just don't like the kind of western otaku that think that japan and it's ppl are the best thing on earth... That's just fanboyish and stupid IMO.

  4. finally done.

That kit look gorgeous, gonna get me one of those next month. The best way to paint the gold trim is to first paint all the black parts gold, let it dry. Then apply a black paint coat over the gold painted pieces. When it dries up. Take a cotton swap with some thinner and remove the black coat over the gold trim areas and the under layer of gold paint will show on the plated areas. So far that is the best and safest way I hear to paint the gold trim areas.

  5. that depends. The stupid sticker obstructs the light from really making the Eyes light up and it barely lights up the Red Tab. The use of the reflective foil inside of the head completely looses its purpose if you have to put stickers on the eyes. Also I think a lot of the focal light is lost due the gaps of the back of the head. Also Annoying that you have to take the rear Back head plate on and off to get to the switch. I cant remember if you need to take the power source out to. Overall WEAK! I will say this again THE WORST PG made. A good 1/60 HG/MG

On a side note. I have been back and forth about my choice of next PG. The only ones im missing are the Eva 01 and red frame. Although I want both I want to Pace myself as I have 7 MGs on the way and I still need to catch up on detailing already completed ones. I have bite the bullet and decided to go with the Eva 01 special Coating

You really think so? I am under the impression that it is a very solid and well thought out kit. I've only built one PG kit which was the zeta. That kit was a very fun build and the design was flawless. All I have heard was good things about the PG 00 raiser. The cost is a real turn away though. I'm not willing to spend over 300 USD on a kit.

If I were to get another PG kit it would probably be the GP01 FB. The design is great and has so many accessories well worth the money IMO and cheaper than the 00 raiser.

  6. isn't this thing technically a model?

Actually yes it is... It's basically a re-release of the older 6 foot tall gundam model that was released in early 2000. It'll probably be around 3,000 to 5,000 USD. The orginal release was about the same price. It'll probably be made in very limited quantities since not many ppl have the interest or the means to spend 5,000 USD on a model kit. The older one featured electronic lights and sounds and came with a giant remote that could electronically turn the head side to side.

I don't know if this new release will have added features though. It'll probably stay the same to keep the price down.

  7. GFFN Full Armor Unicorn:

    gffn_faunicorn_20100430_1.jpg

    gffn_faunicorn_20100430_2.jpg

Wow looks very impressive. Its following the same design principle on the full armor Nu-Gundam GFF. Im happy with the plain MC version though. That many accesories is cool and all but its a bit much. Looks like a back pack of tubes and pipes. Not very practical in a fast action scenario. Some ppl may like the overabundant add ons but it just isn't my cup of tea.

  8. I found Metal Material Turn A Gundam for only 25$ at Amazon, I don't know if the the toy is worth it.

Meh IMO its not really worth it. The MM Turn A has some major problem out of the box. One major thing is that the majority of them come out with a broken shoulder piece on the left hand side.

It's not really fixable either because the shoulder is held in place by a plastic ring over a metal rivet. the plastic holding area is often broken in two so even if you super glue it back it wont be able to shift up and down like its supposed to.

Posseability is lacking as well, although for the most part the toy is sturdy you can't really put it in alot of neat posses because the joints are so stiff and lack articulation. You can't really make the toy have a good action pose like it should.

IMO if you want something that you can actually play with and pose your better off getting the upcoming Damashii version or getting the older MSIA version if you can find it. Heck even the MG kit is better.

  9. I really want the composite unicorn. Although it doesn't have a painted finish like the older MC line. I'm still hearing very positive things about it from various sources. From what I hear the finish on the MC Z-plus was abysmal and not very good for the price. But to my surprise ppl seem to like this latest release and view it as an improvement overall for the MC line.

I know manufacturing for these items can be expensive but I wish we really got what we paid for like we used to... For the price we should still get a nice dull coat finish but this is acceptable and probably the best perfect transformation unicorn well get at this point.

  10. I haven't gotten around getting the DX armored ozma yet, as I have so many other things id rather buy first... I just don't really think the DX armored ozma is worth the money bandai want's for it... I admit it is cool and all but the sloppy design and lack of detail on this thing from what I've seen leaves much to be desired.. I also know that there are many complaints about the parts not fitting on right and the toy being reduced to a fragile floppy mess when trying to pose it with the armor parts on...

This is supposed to be a DX line figure and that usually features more playability and sturdiness. I like to transform and play with the figures every one in a while without worrying about parts falling off. IMO that takes away all the joy of even touching it and that's half the fun... If I can't touch the figure at least I want to be able to look at the intricate detail of the figure but the armored ozma isn't even much to look at NE way.

Being the completist collector that I am ill probably pick it up later NE way. But I am in no rush to purchase something which IMO isn't worth the money.

  11. I just got this from HLJ about two weeks ago and I don't regret it. It's an awesome figure that seems to get everything right out of the box. While the toy itself is a little chunkier than the actual anime model. It still looks very sleek and captures the essence of its anime counterpart. IMO this is the best release of the DX line thus far. It's sturdy while not taking away the sleek look of the vf-27. Overall its a very nice figure without making major compromises to the original design. If you have the spare cash available you owe to yourself to get this figure as it really has no flaws I can think of.

  12. Got up early and i watched it. I did REALLY enjoy it. Six months per episode is to long!!!

You see... that my friend is why I hate watching an ova or anime series that's still in the making. Mainly because nowadays it takes forever for a lot of good quality anime to be produced. I hate being left at a cliff hanger. Even if I have to wait a few months more at least I don't rage over the production turnout of the series.

  13. things still have mass in space and they still have inertia. So wielding that monster would still be problematic, potential more so, in space since now you don't have the ground to stop movement and an uncontrolled swing could send gundam into an uncontrolled spin.

Well I figure if humanity has the technology to emulate human speed and movement perfectly without error then there must be some kind of technology for an inertial dampener which could somehow absorb of buffer the inertia of a fast moving object.

Of course the series makes no reference to this type of technology but that seems to be the only logical explanation as to how the gundam can swing and move object's that are so fast and heavy without any rebound effect from their weight.

The fact that gundam 00 also has anti grav engines could make this technology quite possible. If you can somehow manipulate and control gravity than theoretically there must be a way to control of dissipate the effect of weight and inertia of an object, which is very possible. The only problem is just how to do that.

  14. meh you may have missed out on a good sale but unless you really research these things it's kinda hard to know where and when a sale will start ahead of time. Hey at least you have the pleasure of receiving your items ahead of time and have the spare cash to pay for them all.

I'm currently eyeing that VF-11b ATM... I wouldn't pay full price for it but that deal looks very tempting although it'll kinda even up with EMS shipping and all...

  15. PG kits are not known to sell fast due to pricing. PG kits are also geared toward high-end collectors so it won't be uncommon for a PG kit to still be in stock while MG kits disappear.

Maybe your right but it seems that all the other PG kits released a few years earlier sold well. Every website that ever sold gunpla always sold out of their new stock PG kits that would come in every few months.

Even at a high price point the wing zero custom and GP01 kit always sold out within two to three weeks. I just expected most places would be out of stock right now on what usually is a well selling item.

  16. As an owner of that mk II figure I must agree that the qualitiy is top notch for a bandai product. The thing is massive even in its 1/144 scale and is awe inspiring when you first take it out of the box. The level of detail is amazing as well and it is very sturdy. If your a big gundam fan you owe it to yourself to pick this thing up if you can. It is a very impressive piece to anyone's collection and is a good conversation starter.

  17. HLJ has the PG OO set in thier inventory but it doesn't seems to be selling out like most new releases due... Must be ppl trying to save money due to the economy... Still the kit is great but it is a bit much... 300 USD is pretty steep even for a PG kit. I paid 170 for my PG zeta kit a few years ago and the features are comparatively equal with electronics wiring and all.

  18. I recently picked up a few vehicle figures. The AT-ST walmart exclusive is great. It's in scale with the 3 1/4 inch figures and the poseablity is great on it! Also managed to pick up the newly retooled tie interceptor tru exclusive. Although a little pricey it is the best tie vehicle yet. The design is very sleek and the cockpit is alot more detailed.

  19. Got the 1st season, almost done and love it. I've started to collect more of the toys and it's been an enjoyably experience. I'm beginning to think that Star Wars lends itself better to television than to movies. I like this series better than the prequel trilogy. I'm glad to see more focus on the various clones and Jedis. Definitely cool seeing the Y-wing in action, and the series to me is much better than the animated movie from last year.

Some of my favorite episodes include Rookies, the Y-Wing assault on Malevolance episode, and the Talz episode. Can't forgot the Kit Fisto episode where he takes on Grievous and Nahdar Vebb dies, and the episode with Luminara and Ahsoka VS Ventress.

Now, if only Hasbro will finally tool up super articulated versions of Ventress, Plo Koon, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Grievous, the regular battle droids, and of course, Ahsoka! She's 2 joints(ball elbows) away from being super articulated! I don't care if her forearms will look bigger and "break the sculpt" like adventure Padme(the one with the grapple launcher)!

The vehicles are great too, watching the series increased my desire to own them. Love the Y-Wing(which is surprisingly heavy) and AT TE

I totally agree with you on all point's man! I was at first skeptical in my opinion of the series when first watching it... I didn't like the art style too much at first but the series was so deep and engaging that I could help but get sucked into it and finish the rest of the season.

That also got me into collecting alot of the prequel trilogy vehicles that I never really cared about at first when episode II and III came out. Overall I now appreciate the art style of the characters in the series and I do prefer the animated figures over the realistic legacy collection versions. The series just adds so much depth to the point that I actually care about what happens to the character's and plot line. I haven't seen much of season 2 yet but I hear it is going to be a alot darker than season 1 and will focus more on the climax of the clone wars and anakin's own personal dilemma.

My only gripe about the animated figures is that they tend to have less poseability than the legacy figures do but the look and style of the figures is great IMO.

  20. I continue to watch Turn-A-Gundam and...oh...ohh ...ooohhhh how painful. The plot is just non-existent at this point. I watched episodes 21 and 22 and I really don't remember what they were about or why or... whatever...

All the main characters seem to be operating in a void and their reasons for doing things change with no explanation given. The Moonrace has superior technology - but they don't know how to farm or produce food or trade for food so more people defect to the milita who has food? Weak. So weak. Those two "comedy characters" just put me to sleep. Mainly because other than looking funny - they're not funny.

Diana-as-Sochie...what is she doing? I understand the whole "getting to know Earth life" - but has she basically just left her position as Queen? Was her plan to just switch places with Kiel and never worry about her duties ever again? I don't get it...

Harry must bring her back...oh...but he can't bring her back.

Poe disobeys orders again - or at least acts on her own - but nobody is ever disciplined.

And I just don't understand anything anymore. I have no clue what's going on or why. I totally don't get it. I'm lost.

I'm so lost, I can't even properly criticize Turn-A-Gundam anymore...

I think I like Tomino better when he's just having everybody killed. It's still boring, but at least there is artistic merit to it. Turn-A-Gundam is transforming into Transformers or your general run of the mill kid's show - where the status quo always returns at the end of the episode. No matter what zanny twists and turns occur -everything is back to where it was before hand.

    Boooring.

None of the battles are decisive. Nobody ever dies. All the mecha do is stand around shooting at eachother.

MSG at least had melee attacks mixed in with attacks with different weapons and lots of interesting strategic turns (like Amuro deciding to make the attack on the moon from the side where the sun was shining to hide their approach with Riu or the silence/sound of breathing in oxygen tubes when the Zaku team lands on the colony to spy)...

I dunno... There is just no advance whatsoever in the plot and the situations that we see don't merit it. There's nothing compelling here.

Oh - and why did Diana suddenly stop being a nurse and start roasting chesnuts in a sexy blue dress?

I understand wanting to try different things, but then they could just avoid giving the impression that she's becoming a nurse... she just checked it out...

    I dunno...

    Lost. Lost. Totally lost.

Bad batch of episodes one after the other.

    Things need to pick up.

    Pete

I totally understand what you're saying... I just can't stand turn-A... The mecha designs are great and different but the plot is poor and almost nonexistent... I have seen all the other gundam shows produced by tomino except for V gundam. At first I really enjoyed the series in the UC timeline.... But by the time I finished watching every UC series he was involved in I just got sick of the same old routine and stopped watching gundam for a very long time until recently...

0079 was exciting and original, zeta was depressing but the battles were awesome, ZZ was kinda boring and I couldn't take it seriously... CCA was a good end to the original U.C time line and I was happy with the outcome. However that's when my interest in the series started to wane... I couldn't stand V gundam simply because it follows the same pattern as zeta gundam and is not very original at all.

The only modern incarnations of the series that I did enjoy were mostly the side stories like 0080, 0083 and the 08th ms team. But those adaptations were not made by tomino... Maybe that's why I liked them so much because they were different and showed a different side of the OYW and post OYW conflict.

IMO tomino is long out of ideas for the gundam series and has moved on to persue different ventures that allow more creativity. He contributed enough and should have stopped by the early 90's IMO.

  21. I won't know. The only other racer I have is Burnout Paradise, and I got that for the smashes. :D

Fujimi Kaido is a b****. But I love her all the same. :) Taking my S-class RX-8 up that hill is a humbling experience -- just tuning the thing to get it to work right going up the hill is a learning experience.

Oh I hear ya buddy... I've been playing racing sims since gran turismo 3 on the PS2 and I recently got the collectors edition of FM3. For what you get IMO its worth the extra 20 bucks.

NE way the most challenging part of FM3 is upgrading a lower class vehicle and tuning it so that it is stable enough to drive... It's like overclocking your CPU... It can reap great results but takes some trial and error to get the car to run right. Your basically pushing a car beyond its limits so it'll naturally take some know how to tune your car.

First things first... Alway's tune tire pressure first to get better handling, that is the most important part of the car as far as performance goes. Without traction you wont get very far. Also If possible you might want to add a spoiler and body kit for better aero dynamics to keep your car on the road without spinning out. It takes some speed away but in the end make's your car handle a lot better.

One more tip always tune in small increment's, tune each setting two or three notches in the menu then test drive to see how the cars runs... Rinse and repeat.

NE way once you get the hang of it the game is a blast to play especially online. My gamertag name is "Burningorb" be sure to add me to your friends list and maybe we can race online sometime.

  22. That means more reason to make more toys, models or figures! What it translates to fans means a lighter wallet and a crapload of credit card bills.

Meh I'm getting tired of trying to keep with all the new releases that bandai and yamato are making... It's just becoming too much time and money for releases that are mostly the same aside from some scalability and repaint differences. I'll still keep a decent collection of a few unique must have's but nothing more than that. My money could be put to use for better thing's IMO.

  23. Hmm... As the world economy worsens small businesses like these which license anime to english speaking audiences are bound to suffer and are some of the first businesses to fail. What could probably help most of these companies is lowering the price of their official content because IMO the official DVD's are way overpriced as it is.

The fact that this is a niche market in the west won't help either, and selling DVD's at 20 dollars each isn't gonna help these struggling companies in any way.

Right now ppl just don't have the spare money to buy something they can get for free over the internet. Most ppl still download, stream or pirate anime as they please via online sources even if the series they choose to watch is already licensed in their country.

I dunno what to say... It's good to know that the anime culture is still thriving via the internet and local conventions. I foresee the anime culture going back to it's niche roots again in a more underground manner.

That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
