  1. From what I've read (in preparation to customising my Yammies) you can't use lacquer over acrylic. In terms of layering you can only layer from hottest to coolest. As mentioned lacquers are quite "hot" so you'd need to have had a lacquer paint to use a lacquer top coat. For the acrylic paint you can only use an acrylic top coat like Mr Hobby Topcoat. I also read that decals can be easily destroyed by lacquer top coats.
  2. I've got a VF-25A on the way, and I want to apply a matte finish to it, so it matches my Yamato valks. Any tips to spraying it so the joints aren't affected? I've got Mr Hobby Flat Top Coat spray. Thanks!
  3. And Exia Trans-Am joins Exia, and Exia R1 I think I have no more space for a Exia R2
  4. All are basically part of the Fix Figuration line of toys and Metal Build and Metal Composite are basically the same line, only different branding. Here's the run down: Fix Figuration / Zeonology - scale 1:144 - uses gummy PVC parts, which can lead poor molding and fit of parts - limited articulation - many mobile suits have been represented - around ¥3000 - ¥4000 - Fix represents Gundam and Federation suits, while Zeonlogy represents Zeon suits. - line has been retired Fix Figuration Next - an extended line of the GFF, also 1:144 scale - higher quality PVC parts, to reduce the gummy problem of original GFF line, with much better moulding and fit of parts - increased articulation - very few mobile suits represented - about 20% more expensive than GFF - line has been retired Metal Build/Metal Composite - scale 1:100 - chromed diecast skeleton/joints - high quality ABS plastics - very limited range of mobile suits represented - mostly the hero units - highly detailed sculpting and tampo markings - early models had limited articulation (MC range), but newer releases (RX-78 The Origin and MB) have fantastic articulation equal to Master Grade kits - price has gradually been increasing over the years. MC seems to be more than MB. About ¥10,000 to ¥15,000 more than GFF. - Metal Build come with really strong stands, while Metal Composite comes with plates with the unit details. - Metal Composite represented the Gundam UC universe, and Metal Build for all other Gundam universes (SEED and 00 so far) - line is still active, and currently expanding into series outside of Gundam. Code Geass and Full Metal Panic were teased at Tamashii Nation 2013. I think that covers it.
  5. My Metal Build Exia Trans-AM Tamashii Nation 2013 exclusive arrived from Rakuten today. End cost was ¥26,100, EMS shipping included. I figured I could pre-order the May 2014 re-release from NY, but after the NY slight mark up, and EMS from NY (¥4700), it was only a little bit more, and I get it now instead of in 6 months time. It's really a beautiful rendition of Trans-AM. It's super subtle, which I think should have been a bit of a stronger effect, but the prism coat makes it sparkle nicely. Even the tampo is Trans-AM coloured. It only includes the basic Exia gear, but so really this is the LEAST value for money of all the MB Exia releases. Armour can be removed, so if you wanted you could do a mismatch with the normal Exia or Exia R1/R2/R3, but it would look franken. Besides it only needs the 2 beam sabers really so it can achieve the epic pose from the anime. No loose joints, but they were looser than my original MB Exia which was rock solid and actually I was a bit scared to articulate the joints at first since it was so stiff. This one moves smoothly, but there is enough resistence to not have floppy limbs. It's definitely a must have if you're a fan of Exia. I'm even considering getting another MB Exia/R3 next time, as I also want to make the MB Exia R2 using the extra parts that came with the Exia R1, but I just need to find it for the right price, since it isn't a necessity. Anyway on to the pictures (sorry just iPhone 5 pics for now) Tamashii Nation 2013 box Actual box. Bit bland compared to the normal one though. I think 00 Raiser Trans-AM had the same style art Contents Size compared to Yamato VF-1A MP with some armour removed It's so lovely! More photos once I get this home and can take some proper photos and some nice poses. I'll also compare it against the MB Exia and Exia R1.
  6. This just arrived from Rakuten In the end it was only $20 more than pre-ordering the May 2014 re-release (compared to preordering from NY or using Tenso to buy from Tamashii directly), and I just couldn't wait!
  7. I had my friend go to the Tamashii Nation event today to try to get the Exia Trans-AM version for me, and it was sold out before his assigned line up time (2PM). He told me Bandai would be opening orders up on their website, but it'll be a lottery even then, so he's going to try and get it for me that way once it goes up on the site, but I'm not sure I'll even know when it will be open. @_@;;;; Bandai and their old tricks of making things scarce for the sake of it.
  8. Totally blown away. I was thinking, "what am I looking at? Illustration?" Such an impressive paint job. Would anyone want Bandai or Arcadia to follow suit with special edition versions like this for their valk releases?
  9. Tamashii Nation 2013 exclusive Metal Build Exia Trans-AM edition available for preorder through NY @ ¥24,000. http://www.nippon-yasan.com/gundam/6092-metal-build-gundam-exia-trans-am-ver-limited-edition.html Bit out of my price range with the ¥6,000 mark up though. I think I will see if a friend can get it for me.
  10. And Trans Am Exia is announced. http://gundamguy.blogspot.com.au/2013/10/metal-build-gundam-exia-trans-am-ver.html?m=1 Too bad it is Tamashii Nation exclusive so it'll be difficult to get outside of Japan. Also it is only Exia. No R2 or R3 parts. Quite pricey for just that.
  11. I did an estimate using the VF-1J Anniversario. Put 2 in the HLJ cart and used that as a rough guide for 2 via EMS to AU. It might be a bit higher, but I'm expecting it to be close to that estimate. ¥4420, so maybe ¥4800ish.
  12. Definitely something to drop if you're not a big fan of Exia RE I. Even more reason if you're saving up for MB Destiny. A friend suggested getting the MG Destiny wings of light and adding them to the MB Destiny for the ultimate pose. He said you can probably buy them from spare parts dealers so you wouldn't need to buy a whole MG kit just for the wings of light. Next big toy purchase for me will be Arcadia YF-19 now. Unless Bandai suddenly announces a MB AILE Strike or Strike Freedom soon. After seeing the aggressive design Bandai did for Destiny, it'll be exciting to see what they do for Strike Freedom.
  13. Yep... And even then the Exia RE II that can be made is not accurate because they didn't include the correct RE II rear skirt armour. Also anyone who wants to pick up MB Exia RE cheap, Amiami has it back in stock again. ¥11,150 http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?scode=FIGURE-000318
  14. Okay finally got time to check out the Metal Build Gundam Exia Repair I. It's fantastic and highly detailed. Excellent tampo markings and great battle damage and dirt added to the paint. The tampo has been printed on in such a way so it looks like they're been scratched from damage incurred during combat. The cape for the missing left arm is great. It comes in 2 parts so you can really splay it out to get a really dynamic flowing action pose. Just like the previous Exia release, the articulation is also fantastic. The metal inner frame and joints make it super solid. Only 1 loose joint on mine - On the right knee, but it's still tight enough to stay in a great pose. There is 1 problem with this release which I did not realise... and it's related to the misleading advertising. Make no mistake, first and foremost this release is just Exia Repair I. You cannot convert it to regular Exia or any of the other variants without having already bought the previous MB Exia/Repair III release. It does how ever come with some accessories that allow you to convert the previous MB Exia release to the Exia Repair II, so they're banking on buyers to have already bought that release too. So don't get this if you want MB Exia Repair II, but don't have or not planning to buy the previous MB Exia release. The last photo shows all the accessories included, and it's pretty sparse, which is why the RRP is much less than the previous MB Exia release. I think Bandai should have added the correctly coloured and labelled Repair II rear skirt armour, but they expect you to use the Repair III skirt armour, with the blue tips, so it's not accurate. A bit disappointing.Something weird also. Additional shin armour is included, but when I compared it to my previous MB Exia release, it is EXACTLY the same. I'm not sure why they bothered to included it if Exia Repair II has the same shin armour as original Exia. Waste of plastic... One other down side was the GN drive in overdrive mode in my set is slightly misaligned - as if it hasn't been extended fully on 1 side. Not a big deal for me, since I don't plan on displaying my Exia in Repair II variant. Besides those discrepancies the MB Gundam Exia Repair I is a great release, and I look forward to 1 more MB Gundam Exia release: Trans Am mode version! Then my collection of MB Exias will be complete. I think I got the white balance completely off on these photos.
  15. HLJ took ages to pack and ship my MB Exia Repair and it was set to ship immediately. I think it was 3 days to be shipped. I was hoping to check out it out today but the weather is so bad too. No good for taking photos.
  16. I'm in for 2 of these for now unless my situation changes (baby sucks all my funds - highly likely). It's expensive, but it was expected.
  17. Received my MB Exia Repair I from HLJ today. Will post my impressions once I get a chance to play around with it
  18. Reviews for GFF MB Exia R1 posted by Gundam Guy blog. I wanted to know if Bandai fixed the R2 back skirt and tampo.... Not fixed... Disappointing Bandai.... Still blue tips on the ends of the skirt and 3 in the model number. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZGWELkrh-dI/UjRW2g6Jc_I/AAAAAAAFNfg/ah_ZJ028xB4/s1600/45.jpg Full post here: http://gundamguy.blogspot.com.au/2013/09/metal-build-1100-gundam-exia-repair_14.html Oh well... I'm much more interested in R1 mode.
  19. I totally forgot about the Zeta II and ReZEL. (don't forget about poor Cagali's Strike Rouge too. So rare and expensive) If they made a MC GFF ReZEL that would be awesome - never going to happen. Over the years RD line has improved dramatically. I remember not being entirely blown away by the molds in the first year - kind of reminded me of MSIA. The ones that have come out in the last year or 2 have been amazing! The RD Strike is so good! It's practically engineered for awesome poses. The only RD I have is Strike Freedom, and it's quite impressive. Nice long dragoons, really angular limbs. Very aggressive. The main down side for this particular one was the dragoon wings of light that were a limited edition accessory. They are MASSIVE, and beause they are massive they have more weight than RD Strike Freedom can support. Needless to say I can't actually pose it with the wings of light - such a shame. Definitely look into the newer RDs that are being released if you are interested in collecting lots of different mobile suits and mecha. Overall the price is very attractive and also it's a prospering line for Bandai so they won't drop it anytime soon. 1 other down side to RD is that it is not an official scale. RDs are slightly smaller than 1/144. Maybe 1/130 or something like that. I think that between each RD the scale is not consistent either, but I could be wrong about that. Definitely the crème de la crème is 1/100 MC GFF and MB GFF. They're just so spectular. Once you have one in your collection you'll wonder why you ever bought anything less.
  20. I use to collect them but have all but sold mine. I think I only have GP-01 and Crossbone left. Personally I feel that for the price the quality of the materials used leave a lot to be desired. Instead of the strong plastic used in the 1/100 GFF MC line the 1/144 GFF use a kind of rubbery plastic that is easily deformable and leads to poor fitment of parts on the releases that have accessories. For example: the little beam blades that are stored in Destiny's shoulders always fell out. I ended up glueing them in. Articulation is also not fantastic. They really are best posed standing straight. Dynamic action poses are limited. The one up side was the tampo. Nice amount of markings and a bit of panel lining via wash method also. I think it would be better to invest in the MC GFF line instead. They are much more expensive than old GFF line, but they are vastly superior. There was also the short loved GFF N line, but there were only 2 releases. AILE Strike and Full Armour Unicorn Gundam. I have the GFF N AILE Strike and it's okay. I feel the RD line is kind of cool if you want something like the 1/144 GFF series, but with much better mold and great articulation and possibility. Down side is a bit cheap feeling and no tampo.
  21. It's definitely a sharp looking mold this time around. I don't think I've ever seen it looking this good. The RG Destiny that's coming out looks so round and bubbly. MB by comparison is like a totally different Gundam. Pity no wings of light. Love those gimmicks. Hmmmm. I think wings of light still wouldn't be enough for me to get this. Gimme Perfect Strike and Impulse with all the equipment packs.
  22. I didn't know there was a release date yet. GG blog didn't list a release date did it? I think once there is a release date announced it'll pop up on the usual sites.
  23. So MB Destiny Gundam was just announced (see Gundam Guy blog) and I'm ambivilant. I'm not a big fan of Destiny Gundam, but the design of the MB Destiny is quite impressive. Very sharp and aggressive. I'm mostly disappointed that Strike and Impulse were skipped. Both have the potential for lots of accessories and parts swapping for each of the equipment a packs. Especially on Impulse since it changed phase shift colour based on the equipment it is using. Ah well... Going by this pattern the next SEED MB will be Strike Freedom to go with Destiny. No love to Athrun it seems.
  24. Decided to skip this one. Would have preferred Banshee Norn. Why not included all the parts so we can choose normal or Norn configuration. RRP ¥20,000 too much for me right now. Even Amiami price wasn't enough to sway me. Probably release Norn configuration next year. I'll have more money then.... But I think I'll be saving for 2x Arcadia YF-19 v2 at that point. Hehehe. Wonder when they release Unicorn in the green psycho frame configuration. If they do, I hope they fix the knee articulation. It's quite limited on the current MC. Actually I wonder if its also limited on the upcoming MC Banshee. I'd imagine the models are almost identical? Regarding Metal Comp and Metal Build: I think only difference between MC and MB GFF lines is MB comes with much better stands where as MC usually just has a plaque. The Unicorn stand was pathetic. I used an Action Base 1 instead. UC is always MC, while everything else is MB. Exception is 0 Gundam which was MC line and wasnt very good. I've got grey version and its only okay. Limited articulation, minimal accessories. Should have come with wings of light.
