Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's funny how these vary. I have quite a few variable bikes that are only for display purposes, and I buy them as a completist. However, I really do love transforming and playing with the ones that can handle it. Yammies for MZ23, I avoid handling at all costs, and just look at affectionately. The Arcadia Garlands, on the other hand, I like to have one for display, and one for actually playing with and enjoying the engineering. The funny thing is that, as crappy as the durability is on the Yamato Garlands, the Yamato Motoslaves are one of my absolute favorite toys to transform and play with (right up there with a couple Transformers and Toyworld products).- 819 replies

Not sure what you mean here. I don't think ARTMIC worked on Macross. EDITED: Grammar

I don't disagree that they're "out there", like you said. I'll even go one further and say that they don't make a lot of sense, and seem like genuinely bad ideas in the real world. All of that said, they're still fun, IMHO, and I think they'd look cool on my displays. I will add that I only just recently, FINALLY, got around to opening and playing with the Bartley. I don't know if it's the general improvements Sentinel has made, or just the little added touches on this design, but I really enjoy it and it has reawakened my enjoyment of Sentinel's take on the ride armors.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This looks like that Festival Times stuff from a few years back, where some fans were trying to get an update off the ground and had about a dozen fun variations on the design in there. I don't think anything came of it, and I haven't had luck finding copies of those 2 or 3 issues anywhere short of really ridiculous prices. This also looks like they combined it with the Travertson V-Rex.- 819 replies

Seeing this in 3d here, I'm seeing more elements of more recent Aramaki designs than I expected... and I like it. Now this makes me wish Sentinel would do BGC similarly.

I would be genuinely excited to check this out as a regularly, accessible manga.

Consolidated Megazone 23 Toy/Model Thread for 2017-2018
RavenHawk replied to RavenHawk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Really does. I am so very in for the Hargun. Been waiting on a transformable one of these for SOOOOO long. I love my original Arcadia, too. Sadly, I missed out on the other two... I don't remember if I literally just missed the preorders, or if they came during a window when finances for toys were a bit hard to justify... Hoping on some reissues.- 819 replies

My guess is that the license covered "manufacturing and selling". So, they are still going to sell what was manufactured, but not manufacture new stuff. Shocktroopers had not been manufactured yet. Scouts had been manufactured, but didn't fit up right, so, as he said in the video, were more like model kits you need to glue in place rather than toys you can play with and swap out the boosters on. For that reason, he felt they were not worth the price that people had paid, so he is going to offer them at a reduced rate, since they are essentially models to turn into statues. I'm disappointed, since I always want more Mospeada stuff, and had one of each on preorder. The only thing I have received is my Hellcat (I loved Sentinels as a kid). However, this feels like a true fan trying to be ethical while dealing with real-world finances and real-world other obligations in his life, so I totally respect it.

This to me looks like a fairly typical adventure bike kind of setup for the windshield. Look at the Yamaha Tenere or the Ducati Multistrada.

I, for one, am greatly looking forward to the new Battlestar Galactica Cyclone Motorcycle. This is the update the Turbines needed.

There is definitely something really nice about having the different colors to display. I just wish the Arcadia variant hadn't been so expensive.- 819 replies

Can anyone translate that text under "Grizzly_Sidecar"? Very curious about that. (Making me think of Biomega, the bear, the young girl, and the AI motorcycle)

Maybe it's a MotoSlave type of thing going on, trying to honor another Aramaki work (without, you know, as graceful of an approach)?

As much as there are clearly issues with the MEPToys products (which I have on order), and the b2five ones (also on order), and the Sentinel stuff (which, admittedly, I love, even though it is starting to look awfully fan-fiction-y)... We have new stuff coming out for a relatively short-lived anime from almost FORTY YEARS AGO that I'm still kind of obsessed with. The fact that we're getting all of this still, 4 decades later, makes me happy, even if I also have plenty of gripes about the details.

Still definitely enjoy all of mine. Never had any issues except for the chrome parts (chrome versions) being ridiculously fragile, and I think one of my female character had a break where the "female" sizing made the plastic too small.

That looks fantastic, and it looks like you've got your printer dialed in really well. I haven't used any of my resin ones in a few months, but it might be time to get back to it. Love to see something like this available some day.

M.A.S.K. - Show and Toy collections
RavenHawk replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think that M.A.S.K. absolutely was Kenner's answer to both Transformers and to G.I. Joe, and the kid in me recognized that and was definitely a big fan. When Hasbro got the rights to it, I was honestly excited for the potential there. The IDW comics and crossovers were... not to my taste (the MASK ones, not the TF ones, which I did enjoy). We got the one Trakker GI Joe figure, with the Condor-inspired backpack, but that was about it. I did enjoy the Transformers Human Alliance figures because they felt to me a bit like TF having a taste of MASK figures.- 387 replies

Akai Koudan Zillion & The Acquisition of a Grail
RavenHawk replied to Valkyrie Hunter D's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
So very excited for this. Even though the series, for my tastes, was just ok... this design really clicked with me, or rather, the potential for the design. I'd love to see this not just be the original design, but with a better toy, but some liberties to update it, too ( a la Sentinel). -
Personally, I would LOVE to see this happen (I have a shelf for CMs ride armors and Yamato Motoslaves, since it's all Aramaki at roughly the same scale, and the same for some model kits that are close). I feel like, ability-wise, they could do it fairly easily, when you look at the different designs from Sentinel and Riobot. However, it would probably depend on if there's any market for it. I want to say that they tend to go for things that will allow a lot of uses for the same mold, and where there is a current market (i.e. the Marvel stuff), but then again, they've been doing some very random one-offs too, so who knows?

Not that it really matters, since this is RT we're talking about here, and not the original material, but I recently re-read all of the novels and don't recall any mention of that. The novels present Mars Base and Jupiter Base as not being literal bases that sent troops (which is how I always pictured it as a kid), but as the names for the missions. Therein, the final mission was named "Jupiter Base"... which makes no sense. Then again, re-reading those over a fairly short period a couple months ago, maybe I'm misremembering. I think the concept art books for the actual MOSPEADA showed how divisions of Mars joined up with ones from Jupiter's moons, which made more sense, but again, memory is fuzzy.

This has kind of bothered me every time I rewatch the original or even New Gen. I don't lose sleep over it, but it is a little annoyance. She showed up already extremely good with the bike, as though trained on it, but no mention of how. RT complicates it further by having Jupiter Base be the mission arriving AFTER she already has it. I don't recall any of the background info in the concept books covering it, but others probably are more familiar with all of that than I am. Sentinel has re-ramped up new products in a big way, but they all seem to be things with mass appeal (i.e. Marvel stuff) or items where the same molds can get reused A LOT. I think we're only seeing Houquet because the base figure is already coming out for another line. Maybe when they get some profits back in, they'll look at things like Genesis Breakers and be willing to invest in the new molds.
