  1. I'm not seeing it.. says no record found... and when I search for the actual item, it shows sold out at $426...

And actually, I'd argue the YF-19's best mode is gerwalk. It hides all the things people get annoyed with in fighter and battroid.

That simply means someone here bought it as soon as I post it. It was there for more than a week. they only had 1.

Since I'm at it, I'm thinking about picking up a couple of VF-1 unpainted kits. Has anyone tried painting it successfully without issues?

If yes, what kind of paint did you use?

  2. most of Japanese forum about Yamato are now mentioning Yamato's Bankruptcy (not officially announced - mostly because there is no one left to announce it?)

Some are posting large re-stock of random Yamato Macross toys in Akihabara shops. Probably from Yamato back storage or something..

so...... I gave up on Renewal version of YF-19 and bought my long waited YF-19.

I couldn't find the repackage version, so I got the weathered version - which is still a repackage version, i think?

  3. I love ghetto setups! My first air compressor when I started my airbrushing was a junkyard fridge compressor that I rigged up with a sponge on the cylinder head which I kept wet so it would cool it down as it got hot and shut off (right in the middle of some important spray!)

Well, finally one of the best parts - I matte/flat clear coat the packs and start assembling the pieces!

    attachicon.gifDSCN6620_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6621_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6622_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6623_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6624_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6625_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6626_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6627_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6628_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6629_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6630_resize.JPGattachicon.gifDSCN6631_resize.JPG

All this is before the weathering - its pretty much spanking new now. Well, my mid grey turned out a little dark when it dried, the wet paint colour perfectly matched the plastic, but with the additional semi-gloss clear coat it darkened it a tad. Plus the darker fast packs definitely lightened up with the matte/flat coat, not sure if there's enough contrast yet.

There's still a lot of other decals to go onto the plane and clear coat that, plus all the missiles, fins, guns, engine nozzles and gak, before I can assemble it and start weathering (I'm worried the weathering will start to tie together all the different shades a greys a little too much).

That's really pretty! You are working on this really fast!!

I can't wait for my current project to be over so I can get back to my hobby!

kyekye, you're in Irvine! I need to go see that awesome SDF-1.

EXO, yeah my home is there, but I'm currently away for most of time due to my job :p

  4. PLEASE! Everyone please wear a mask if you airbrush. A real mask (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Low-Maintenance-Half-Mask-Respirator-Assembly/dp/B00004Z4EB) not just one of those white fibre thingys. Make sure you get the filter cartridges for organic solvents - especially if you spray lacquers or any type of metalizer. This applies even if you have a spray booth and ventilation system.

(My best friend died at the age of 35 from lung cancer - he never smoked ever! But we built models throughout high school without any type of mask - they're not saying if that's what caused it (cause I'm still alive) but just to be safe!)

I get your masking hell Jefuemon - but its worth it in the end, nothing like real paint!

Also, I strongly recommend wearing spray goggle as well (specially if you don't wear glasses). The paint dust (with solvent) bounces back and gets to your eyes. You only realize after you get affected much later...

For this hobby, eyes are very important, you know!

  5. To ease my concern, I searched here and there and found some blog of one Japanese Macross fan (WALK) who went to Wonder Festival about a week ago.

Here is quote from the article. (with my quick translation)

やまとさんは ARCADIA 名義になってましたね。 - Yamato became ARCADIA
色々企画が有るみたいです。撮影禁止だったので写真は有りません。 They seemed like they have a number of items in planning, but photograph was prohibited, so no photos.
目新しい情報としてはこんな感じでした。 Some gathered (Macross) information below.

・ハセガワ VF-1 プラモデル 30周年マーキング 天神英貴氏デザイン (Hasegawa VF-1 Model kit with 30th anniversary marking designed by Tenjin)
・1/8 一条輝 フィギュア (1/8 scale Ichijo Hikaru figure)
・VF-1 コックピットモデル 完成品 (VF-1 Cockpit complete model)

1/60 完全変形シリーズはどうなるのでしょう?VF-4G が有終の…まさか、ねぇ (What would happen to 1/60 Perfect Transform series? VF-4G wouldn't be the last one, would it?)

So no new news really, but I'd like to see the VF-1 Cockpit model. I have old Gashapon cut-away model, but better one would be nice.

  6. This is my gut feeling that one of the following happened..

Yamato licensing agreement with Macross expired, and they decided not to renew it because..

    a. recent low sales figure, but will renew later.

    b. Bandai acquired exclusive license

    c. Mr. K wants to develop a series of new/renewal items which will take more than a year for prototyping. so they decided to renew when they are ready.

    d. Mr. K joined Bandai... or decided to make his own company to focus on Macross (and other transforming Mech!)

    But listen to me Yamato/Arcadia!

You ain't done until you give me new YF-19 and TV SDF-1, and then you will have my permission to %&*... T_T...

  7. I wonder if they would have the same problem as BBTS and sell more pre-orders than actual stock that they'll get. That would especially suck since they require a 50% deposit.

Also, what's up with them being based in California but costs $7 to ship within the US but only 5.50 to ship to other countries? That seems backwards and really cheap to ship internationally.

They are legit, but my experience with them was mixed. They are in US/CA, but some shipping is from HK/China. Expect some random order cancellation and/or long delay of item come in stock. (like a couple of months sometimes)

  8. There's nothing I need to be worried about in transforming it, is there? No tabs that might snap if you don't move pieces in EXACTLY the right way or anything like that?

Nothing much to worry about. the missile pods fall off quite often, the bottom fin could snap off, you might get poked by sharp edges here and there. But those are usual things for Macross, aren't they :D
  9. Just FYI for those who are checking online shops for this one.

AmiAmi shop is closed from 29th (which means they are closed now)

HobbySearch is closed from 30th (Maybe it will turn up tonight/tomorrow before they close for the holidays)

HLJ is already closed for a break..

NipponYasan.. No mention about holiday schedule, but probably they are gone as well..

That doesn't stop from listing the item on their page. I've seen it happen on HLJ. Probably one employee stop by the office and update new items for fun :)
