MacrossMan, this is one bea-utiful VF-1D custom! Still gotta nab me that VF-1A TV Kakizaki exclusive. Love the VF-1A TV Max. I can't wait to complete my 1/48 Vermillion Squad! I just need the TV Max to complete it in the 1/60 scale. I'm hoping to have a shelf set up for them with the new 1/60's in fighter mode and the 1/48's in Battroid. And you're so right about the side covers. They are a must. They look naked without 'em.

  2. Before we go down any further on this poll thread, I want everyone to clearly understand that

the result of this pole does not necessary mean that we're going release in those order.

The whole purpose of this poll is just to see how much fans are interested on each character.

And also I want you to understand is that in order to continue our vinyl collection toy line,

we need everybody's support to buy our Battle Pod figure. And after we see a good sales on that figure

then we can make a go sign and start designing the next figure.

You might want to consider adding to the poll or starting a separate poll to see how many battlepods have been purchased by MW members or even at Robotech.com just to get a general idea of whether they are selling well unless you can get actual sales figures yourself. I have purchased one and may buy a couple more.

  3. Looks like a Front Mission mech. I forget since it's been awhile since I've played Konami's Cybernator, but is that the same mech or is it the mech from the Mega Drive/Genesis game? I know it's the US version of the Super Famicom Assault Suit game.

Wish more companies would focus on shmup collectibles. I'm still hoping some company will produce figures of the two playable mechs from Capcom's Sidearms (my avatar is a cute version of the main mech).

  4. Wow! I'm really sorry I sounded condescending about the Battlepod in that thread towards you. Really nice of you to ask the fans directly for input on the next piece to be designed. And yes, I agree with most on a Glaug. Then the Nousjadeul-Ger. Let's focus on Macross/Robotech enemy mecha before moving onto the other series. I would love to see character figures of the TV characters and even Movie versions.

  5. Can you be more specific that how much more detail were you expected?

Did you wanted more panel lines? More decal markings? More articulations?

We tried to keep it simple, and low costs to produce these items.

Any of these additional paintings, or tampo printings reflect the cost of making and eventually more cost for buyers.

We tried to keep $25 retail price for this item, and this is the best we can do.

If you were looking for super articulated ABS and die-cast toy, then it's a whole different category.

I guess I could have been more specific, but yes, I was refering to the markings/tampo-printed stuff. It does look rather bland. Even a sticker sheet would have been nice. I don't see that adding too much more to the price. Well, I do have one on order. I see Toynami is already milking the mold with a missile pod version. I take it the next one will be the other missile pod variant? I don't mind getting each one if it means they'll eventually put out the Scout version.

  6. BlueMax, you're a godsend!

sidearmsalpha and M0n5t3r, thanks for the additional info!

I've only seen Armor-All at my local hardware store; is that okay as a lubricant?

I forget the brand of oil he bought, but I don't think it was Armor-All. The brand you see in the picture is one he bought before that he couldn't find, so we went to a local drugstore (a CVS Pharmacy store), and he bought a little container of oil, but the brand escapes me. I'll ask him later today and have him comment here.

  7. If you have a VF-1S Roy or a VF-1A Hikaru, it's inevitable that one or both shoulder hinges will crack even if you don't ever take them out of the box it seems. I had 2 VF-1A Hikarus that were never taken out of the box with the shoulders cracked when I inspected them. I decided to have my friend use his Dremel to sand down the slight knurling on the VF-1S Hikaru because I would rather be safe than sorry, and I only ordered so many of the replacement hinges for the VF-1A's, VF-1S Roy, and a VF-1J Hikaru.

I even busted one of those pieces on the top of one of the intakes on one of my VF-1A Hikarus. It's the trapezoid-shaped hump that helps to keep the leg secure in fighter mode. The leg still holds because of the swing bar clip and the attachment on the back of the lower leg, but you can see a slight gap where the intake part meets up with the bottom of the chest plate. Never did that on a 1/48. <_<

  8. My pal vf2ss fixed my VF-1S Hikaru by removing the pins and sanding down the knurling before the hinges ever cracked. I now have it posed on a Yamato stand in Battroid with the armor parts on and Exo's recast side and neck covers!

Ok, this is off-topic...I was checking out the manual for the VF-1S, and I noticed one step that I'm not sure the VF-1S can do. One page shows that when transforming the VF-1S from fighter mode, the lower leg can be pulled down a bit from the knee joint. I tried to do it, but it doesn't seem to extend. I don't have the manual in front of me, so I don't know what page it was on. Is it possible or was that referring to something else?

  9. I've got the old Kaiyodo Trigun figures (which are great), but these new ones look a lot more posable, specialy the man himself Vash.

I'm not sure what the hubub over Grendizer is, sure I'll pay a few more dollars for him than Mazinkaizer, but he is still a lot cheaper than most other worthwhile versions. Fills the spot nicely for casual Super robot collectors like me who spend enough on Macross stuff.

I hear ya on that. That Grendizer looks great and not hard on the wallet. I love alot of the Super Robots, but my wallet can only go so far, so I have to settle for less expensive versions of them. Although I did pick up the SOC Grendizer with the Spazer set because it was too awesome to pass up.

  10. Dude, what outworld colony have you been living on? Seriously?

And of course, Bandai Creation USA's massive, mecha-mashing Mechagodzilla...

And this doesn't even scratch the surface. I LOVE that someone's doing vinyl mecha, and doesn't cost $50-$85 even. Especially glad that TOYNAMI is doing it, since that means a much better chance of Invid/Inbit toys.

I guess I stepped on someone's vinyl tail. That's cool. I didn't realize it was still widely used as a material of anime toys. It just seems to be an odd choice from Toynami, but like it's been mentioned, I guess they're playing it safe on this. I hope their gamble works, and it sells out. Maybe, we'll see either more mecha, or a larger version with more bells and whistles, like a hatch that opens and a Zentraedi soldier.

By the way, anyone who has passed on the Masterpiece Robotech Rand Cyclone should check out this seller on eBay who dropped the price on them and is clearing them out at $119.95! He also has all the Betas down to $99.95!

  11. If and when I get it will it have that little hole in the bottom where I can suck up water and chase my twins around the tub squirting them??

    I hope its a little better than that . . .

LOL! I lost it, and almost ruined my monitor with soda, you bastid! Man, ok. Regained control now. Why vinyl? Who the hell makes collectible toys out of vinyl anymore since Takatoku released those crappy vinyl (it was vinyl, right?) Macross figures?! The last vinyl toy I ever saw was that very limited Galvatron figure that some small company put out. My buddy got the orange "Lava" version. For what they were charging for it, it should have been PVC.

For the $25.00 pre-order price, this Battlepod does look good to me.

But on topic with all things Mospeada, I'm really temped to get another Alpha/Legioss. We all know the Toynami's are a crap shoot of trouble, but what about the "Aoshima" versions, are they any better quality wise??

I have all three Aoshima versions because I liked the fact that they included the extra parts like the missiles under the intakes and the missile pod-thingy on the left arm. I haven't had a total dud yet, but they are on par with the Toynami versions, quality-wise.

  12. as bad as he revvie is... and it's bad... it still has better proportions than the toynami... seriously... why the long face, veritech?

Didn't the guy that sculpted the Super Poseable version also sculpt the 1/100? I think he's Japanese. I figured he would have seen enough of the lineart to get it right the second time. Hell, even Yamato got it right the second time with the 1/48. I would have thought that after the Super Poseable version, even Robotech fans would have said, "WTF is this?! Get it right!" Actually, I guess they did do it a little better on the Masterpiece VF-1S, but they screwed up on the head lasers (making them bend inward).

  13. • Toynami Alphas look GREAT on a shelf - just don't touch them or open the window.

    • Toynami VFs packaging is still the best, even over Yamato, "so they have that going for them".

-- Here's hoping the battlepod sells in HUGE numbers and the SC alphas BOMB big time.

    • If the vinyl battlepod sells very well for them, they'll probably come out with a few variations to milk the mold and then hopefully the glaug. If that all goes well maybe they will take a chance and do a masterpiece Invid Royal Command line. I think it would sell quite well with minimal tooling compared to a transforming mech.

-- Toynami (or CMs!), if you're reading this, please make the cockpit opens and folds down, and includes opening missile hatches please.

SO, while I'm not excited at all about the vinyl pod, I plan to get a few (have 3 revys) to support the release of more obscure or enemy mechs. I hope every Macross fan does the same . . .

Man, I'm surprised no one stoned you for mentioning "Toynami" and "Macross fan" in the same post.

Seriously though, I think Toynami is banking on Robotech fans to buy these vinyl Battlepods. I have 4 of the Revoltechs and don't see anything appealing about the Toynami version. Now if they included optional parts to make the different missile types, I would be all over that, and that would make up for the limited articulation. I'm all for supporting Toynami so that they will bring out other enemy mecha and maybe some character figures, but this is a pretty weak attempt when they have the Revoltech version to go up against for pretty much the same price.

  14. I never thought I'd live to see the day. sniff. sniff. there is a God. :)

No kidding. I didn't even see Titanic on the big-screen thankfully. I'm sure the multi-watchers that drove Titanic's earnings were love-stricken women and DiCaprio freaks. It's no doubt that this time, Avatar brought in kids, teens, and families, as well as sci-fi fans to watch it at least one, if not more than once.
