  1. Not really... Yamato sets the MSRP, not the retailers like HLJ. Retailers that don't play by the MSRP don't get to continue selling the toys by that company. Sure, there are mark-ups beyond MSRP occasionally but the competitive nature of the industry normally prohibits that.

Exactly, Most retailers agree to sell items at MSRP for a certain amount of time. Further YAMATO is the one who decides how much cost is to the retailer.

For instance...was talkign with a Nitro Snowboard rep the other night. He says I can get you the boards for cost (1/2 off MSRP). So I asked him what it costs Nitro to make one Adult middle of the line board and he says abotu $40. Cost is about $200, MSRP about $400.

In the case of YAMATO...its not only them that are being Greedy both them and the retailers are however, they start the greediness process by setting MSRP, then the business enables that by agree to it. We the buyers enable it all by continuing to buy the products.

  2. Ok, I'll definitely agree with you on that. Red bikes with red screens... blue bikes with blue screens... green bikes with green screens... might as well buy a half plastic Buell.

    FZR400, FZR600, FZR1000, and an R1? Wow, you've got great taste. I'm a Yamaha junkie.

Who needs a screen. Buy a chopper. I got me a Star Raider and it beats the hell out of the Harleys and buells I've owned.

  3. I think its time for MWer to make a Holy Crusade under the Hory Froating Head banner to liberate these people from the heretic known as HG. :p

However I'm quite surprised that he never learn about the real Macross after all these year.

First step, burn HG HQ to the ground then behead their ownership and management. Wait...I should probably include a discaimer here or I might get a C&D letter from HG.

I do not endorse the actually vandalism, burning or beheading of HG or those associated with it. All comments above are strictly for comedic purposes only.

There that should do it. B))

  4. Even at $90 per 1/48 super I'm sure HLJ is making a profit. It may only be a dollar or two but they are making a profit.

And I have been in retail.

Take your average case of Michelobe Gold light beer. When I was working beer routes (Relatives own a distributor ship) the cost of the beer was about $4 per case. Selling Price was $13.99. We could take $3-4 off cases for sale purposes.

    Mark up is huge.

Toys aren't that much different. In fact considering how cheap labor is for making these I wouldn't be surprised if cost on a 1/48 was under $60.

Yamato is gouging us as far as I'm concerned. Take a look at their mini line. Same size as revoltech less posability then revoltech. $10-20 more than revoltech. We've been gouged.

  5. What I don't get is why would you change your xbox's position from horizontal to vertical or vice versa while it's on with a disc running? even if it didn't scratch the disc, I would never do that. That's pretty lame.

I agree but its still funny how little Microsoft cares about its customers. Can't wait until the memo regarding how much it would take to fix the RROD comes out. I'd love to see a class action lawsuit on that one.

  6. Is Yamato greedy? Of course they are. If HLJ is clearancing out 1/48 super max and milla's for $90 (regular price 190) its blatently obvious that Yamato is greedy. HLJ isn't going to let them go for a loss. Therefore they cost less than $90 to produce. That's equates to more than 100% markup.

    Pathetic.

  7. Shouldn't the question be what is the least worst QC Yamato ever made. Amazing how a company that produces toys with such poor QC can survice. Personally I don't think they are that much better than Toynami.

    Go Bandai!

  8. Why you lazy... Well, cant be helped I guess. ^_^ Though Blu ray info is rather recent. There's only one blu ray edition. You can either get them seperately, or together with a bonus disc.

I assume you mean what they did for the films right? Gunbuster is a heavily edited version of the first 4 episodes and the complete last two with a new foley track and new Japanese dub with the original actors. Diebuster is also condensed with a little bit of new footage.

As far as I know, yes. Purchase wise at least. If you're talking the OAVs, they missed with Gunbuster episode one, and there's a limited, subless version where this isn't so, and contains more extras. KAA's release also corrects this offense.

No. The original foley tracks were lost in a fire, and would require new recordings, like for the film version. That, and it's an obscure enough title that a dub would probably not boost sales enough to warrent the cost. Besides, you have an extraordinary cast in the original, so why would you. B))

That I leave to Keith to answer, since he appears to be the only one to have it. Though I believe he said the Blu ray contains the extra disc that was omitted from the DVD release. I do have a rip with a mysterious audio commentary.

Any show you enjoy is worth supporting the creators for. Plus the actual disc is 1080p. Progressive is a big enough deal. I have rips too, but I still prefer having a solid, proffessional copy over a silver disc marked with sharpie. Not to mention that it's considerably less compressed and not sourced from a comparably low bitrated TV feed.

    Any news, Bandit?

Thanks for the info. Also thanks for the link bandit...might go for that movie combo.

  9. I have seen some really fantastic Asian movies lately; and best of all - in the cinema with my girlfriend who also loves them.

    They are:

2046, directed by Wong Kar Wai:

I love the atmosphere in this movie. It blends everything that I ove in cinema (namely old Bogart type flicks with science fiction) and it is a very Shakespearian/theatrical film with great acting.

Lust Caution, direcyed by Ang Lee:

This is a MUST SEE movie. The political intrigue is fascinating; the human drama is very very moving - it is all about how young people's view of life as was taught to them in schoo, through history and an "abstract" political view is suddenly confronted by the personal element in human nature - and to very tragic results for all parties concerned. This is a really great thriller - and done with a style and class that makes it a cut above the rest Highly recommended.

There were some other movies I've also seen, but not as memorable, although I am always on the look out for excellent Asian cinema.

Oh yeah - maybe this is cliche - but I really thought that the Japanese version of the Ring was amazing. The scariest horror film that I've ever seen. Probably why I never watched it a second time...

And the funny thing is - I'm looking to watch it again, only I want to watch it WITH somebody (first time around I watched it with my ex-girlfriend). Sad thing is - I can't find anyone who wants to re-watch it with me. Everyone I know has seen it, been traumatized, and doesn't want to ever see it again :)

    Go figure.

    Pete

if your talking about 2046 lost memories...I found it horrible. One of the few movies I could even stand to finish. I think I quit watching about an hour in. Both my wife and I hated it.

  10. ok gunbuster guru's. I need some advice as to which bluray editions of gunbuster and daibuster to get. But have a few questions and don't have time to read 41 pages for the answers.

    1. Is that anything new to the GB vs DB Gattai movie or is it just the OVA's?

    2. Are the US releases the best subbed releases to get? I see that they are currently like $26 on amazon.

    3. Is bandai ever going to release a dub?

    4. Is there any new stuff on extras disks?

I already have these via DL in both 720p and 1080i...is it worth my cash to get the real discs or are THORA's rip/subs just as good?

    Thanks.

  11. last week there was a comparison detailing the figma's vs. Fraulins on Dannychoo.com

. Look it up...the results are surprising.

BTW the fraulen revoltechs shoulders have supposedly been re-done.

While the faulen's don't always look quite as good, they can stand on their own. They are mush esier to hold a pose and seem sturdier.

I collect some of both. The bunny haruhi is rather intriguing since it will probably be a special edition figma that we can't get....kinda like the new x-mas outfits that are free with figma purchase in japan.
