  1. What I really want to know, is if the Robotech VF-1 chunkytechs are even coming out or not. The new head=cool. Telescoping neck=uhm...yeah....nice...well better than light up eyes...okay cool. Release? What George Sohn says leads one to believe that maybe these won't come out. It certainly did not help Toynami, that there was barely anything showing for the 1/55. The main reaction that weekend was "OMG DUDE LOOK A CHUNKY 1D.....OH MAN....THAT WAS ONLY SHOWN IN THE TAKATOKU PROMO PICS...AND INSERT CATALOG...OH MAN....KICK ASS....". We find hope that it might be released by seeing the placard that says "coming soon". Then George Sohn goes on camera and says their release is all dependent on demand. The 1/55 VF-1D is definitely a fan favorite, but to shove it in the dark corner of the display, and let all the 1/100s get the attention?

So truly, which one is it? Are we getting the chunkytechs or not? I for one, am more interested in seeing the chunkytechs than the 1/100.

Besides I wouldn't be surprised if Origin of Valkyrie ends up having the DYRL armor trio in the line(Strike, ELINT, SuperO), I see the Robotech 1/55 chunkies with new heads as valks to fill in the gaps for the TV series valks.

So come on Toynami, this is a chance to fill in the gaps, not overlap over Bandai, and give fans the best of both worlds. All we need is a straight answer, yes or no.

Basically, I just want to know what 1/55's they are going to have. I'm not worried about the 1/100's. Good point about the magic 8 ball.

  2. I am trying to track down a few of the HCM Pro Gundams that I missed. If you can help out with any of the following, shoot me an e-mail. Ideally I would like them MIP, but if they are loose/mint/complete (from a non-smoking home) I would still be interested.

I do have a few odds & ends for trade, shoot me an e-mail at lazarusgundam@yahoo.com if you are interested trading or selling. I am still pretty new on this board, but I have a lot of feedback from the other boards I trade on (references can be provided), as well as 700+ positive feedback (100%) on eBay.

I also have a few DC Direct, Marvel Legends, and Star Wars figures for trade, as well as a couple of extra Sideshow Star Wars figures. E-Mail me with your wants.

Sorry, I don't have any spares. However you might want to take a look at HLJ.com and their 70% off sale. I recently got a some of what your looking for for about $8 through them and this sale. Also got the destroy for $25 rather than the $60 they usually sell it for.

  3. Yes, but he's so close...and the last four episodes may have been a rush job (since the show got cancelled), but they're among the best episodes in the whole series.

Oh well...as long as sixtydeuce gets them out by next April, in time for the 30th Anniversary, I guess I'll be content.

As for the HK DVDs...it seems to me to be a rule of thumb that HK subs get worse the longer a show is. Usually the first disc is good, the second is okay, and after that, it just spirals into nonsense. I bought the L-Gaim DVDs, and ended up getting so frustrated with them that I couldn't finish.

You might want to check boxtorrents.com

They have a lot of the old gundam series on there. Datorrents is also worth a check. Subs are better than the HK dvds!

  4. Ive looked a bit for the original shows, but they dont seem all tha easy to come by, or cheap to come by. Bootlegs dont seem impossible, but Ive seen enough dodgy subs on Saint Seiya to last a lifetime. Id prefer dubs or at least good subs on the original and Zeta at the least

Or just get a netflix subscription. You can get pretty much all of the R1 released Gundam through them without even a wait.

  5. There's a pretty easy way to get the shades off of GL. Use the nail file from a small swiss Army knife and stick it under the chestplage and slowly wiggle it off. Mine came off no problem. Now for the dodgy paint on his butt. I hope the other one I have on order has better paint.

  6. I guess none of you actually undertand that using your focal vision on subtitles will take away from what your seeing on the screen. It has nothing do do with your reading speed. You are missing action by reading anything on the screen. This is a scientific fact that even an undergraduate Kinesiology student can tell you. Reading speed has nothing to do with it...you are still missing some of the on screen elements and action. If you want a reference try looking it up in Schmidt's motor learning and control book. Particularly the chapters on vision and feedback control.

As far as the quality of the dub, that's another point. I wholeheartedly agree that there are many dubs that are craptacular at best. However, there are dubs that are decent. Like I stated above I watch most anime for the first time subtitled but after that I use the dubs. I do enough reading at work and while working on my doctorate. Oh and btw I can read at a faster than normal level just fine. :)

Also, if you are such a purest...just learn the language, or maybe only watching anime in dolby 2.0 when a non pure track is available. Oh and forget about any remastered editions. Maybe hypocritical purests should just let everyone enjoy their anime rather than trying to reduce the features found in anime for other's who might find them useful.

  7. You say "non dub" like is a bad thing.

I do think not having a dub is a bad thing. While I enjoy listening to the original japanese language tract the first time I watch a series I rarely watch it more than once in japanese. Most of the anime I watch, including gundam has a lot of action happening on the screen and I would rather see that action and hear it in english than miss the action while reading the subtitles.

don't get me wrong...there are a lot of poor dubs out there but Bandai/sunrise typically do a decent job on them.

Try watching something like revenge of the sith in another language using subtitles and you'll realize how much of the screen action and eye candy you are missing.

So yes not having a dub is a bad thing....especially if your charging more to boot.

Its funny how many so called anime purests hate dubs. THese folks are missing much of the action while reading the subtitles. From a scientific standpoint I would rather have the action in my focal vision rather than my peripheral vision. If these so called purests actially thought about what draws them to anime they may find that they are best served by dubs rather than subs.

  8. I still very much see it as a Gundam lookalike, which is why I haven't been able to warm up to it. Granted I think it looks a bit more interesting than a typical Gundam (no offense meant to Gundam fans, it's just not my thing) but it still boldly tells me "Gundam" every time I look at it. Looks like a fantastic toy though.

I agree with you. THe legs and shoulders just scream gundam seed to me. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. The other think it reminds me of is patlabor because of the paint job.

  9. which version. The squatting one with the white dress 1/7 scale is beautiful but it would be hard to do becasue of the legs. Is there a good standing one in 1/10 or 1/12 scale? Then it would be easier to kit bash with a revyVF-1 or a banprestoVF-1.

I don't really know which version. There have been a few figures of Kanu with poses that might work but the scale might be off. I've just noticed that most of the sculpts of her turn out great and she is a really great character design.

  10. I have the RX 78 2 and the Psico Gundam Metal Material ones and ther are no-way-near the normal FIX line. None of them use PVC but mailnly ABS and Diecast. Maybe there are some PVC parts but not much at all. This toys are more close to a bigger scale High Complete Model Pro with diecast content... like a SPEC line.

Also there are no pieces falling or flopping arround, both the toys I have are pretty tight, well detailed and decaled.

I would NEVER buy the Fix line as I trully find it horrible, but the metal line is a different story.

Do you have any picks of the Psycho Gundam metal material...I didn't think it was even out yet. BTW the RX-78-03 is on sale for $40..rather than $113....can't decide though. I do like the low vis look though.
